  • Today I take you from start to near finish of the body and neck of a DIY Ibanez Jem Style Guitar.
I am building a tribute guitar like the Jem77WDP . While not exact I do have the liberty to put my own spin on the build of a Leo Jaymz body and neck.
This kit is by Leo Jaymz. The body and neck are extremely nice. 99 % of the hardware will not be used. The build will consist of many high end parts to be disclosed in a later video.
I can say that the kit is very straight and the neck fitment was shear perfection.
    Minimal fret work required.
If you have the patience these kits may be right up your ally.
I would love to build a Jem kit from Guitar Kit World to compare quality. But this kits wood quality is near perfection out of the box.
Part 2 ( Assembly and wiring ) Available Now.

You did a nice job on the finish! I worked in the paint, stain & coatings industry for 10 years & I loved developing my own stain colors like the purple on my custom Strat, it's been 10 years since I finished it & that purple quilt looks good to this day!

Thank you for sharing brother, excellent job on this! So I tried this and I noticed the next day it was a little rough on the backside of the guitar. My question is, can I apply a little more Minwax and lightly sand the rough spots on the backside?

Yes, wet sand with a fine automotive grade sandpaper and followed by a medium cut compound and finally a polish.

Thanks I appreciate the advice. I tried to get a Rickenbacker style kit and they are sold out, but I also admire the work on the butcher block version of the Rickenbacker style bass. These builds are addictive. 😅 I found your videos very informative. Thank you.

The word is ESpresso, not EXpresso. Sorry, I'm a little bit of a spelling/grammar nazi. It was said so much it drove me nuts :) Also, it's Excess stain, not access. Excellent job on the guitar though!

      M Webster.
Espresso is the word borrowed from Italian to mean “coffee brewed by forcing hot water through finely ground darkly roasted coffee beans.” In Italian this word means “made for one serving” or “made at the customer’s request,” to distinguish it from coffee brewed in a pot. In English we say “made expressly for me” using a word that shares roots with espresso, and today expresso is a widely used variant.
      Both terms are correct.
