Is the knockoff EMG pickups really active, with a preamp onboard? Where’s the 9V battery door?

I have a love/hate relationship with Floyd rose trems. I love that the strings can just hang off the guitar and come back in tune. But it’s such a time consuming thing to change strings. Most of my Floyd’s are evh style, dive only. I have 2 that are floaters. They are great until a string breaks. Don’t have a floating Floyd Rose If it’s your only guitar. You’ll hate it. I think the modern 2 post trems with locking tuners are pretty much as stable staying in tune. Floyd’s look cooler though. And you absolutely need a Floyd on a Van Halen guitar. You wouldn’t believe the people that make fun of me putting the ball ends through the tuners and cutting the string to the right length to lock In the trem. I can’t be the only person to do this, but in my circle I am. It just makes things easier. Why cut both ends of the string off? I prefer the vintage style fender tuners the string sticks onto with a vintage stats style trem. But I just can’t play most 80’s music without a Floyd. It just doesn’t feel right. Especially EVH songs. You don’t really need a Floyd to play EVH but it just doesn’t seem right without it.

The same situation as with Harley Benton guitars. Harley Benton makes great instruments that are not counterfeit, legally speaking, but all the Gibson/Fender (mostly Gibson) cultists can’t stand the fact that a HB DC Custom is a better instrument than most of the Gibson’s custom shop SG models. Sure, pickups aren’t that great on them but for 280€ you get a great instrument.

There's always Heritage. They're in Gibson's old building.

We cannot make consumer products for the price they can be overseas or what they can be by automation. That conversation is complicated. And must be had in a logical way. Not through a rant. But the guitar is cool. I like your post.

I bought a used 57 (73 reissue) when I was a kid and later resold it. 40 years later I bought my son an Epiphone copy (Gibson guts). I hate to say the Epiphone was a better guitar.

Look at how close that pickup is to the bridge.

My friend got one about a week ago,, its Junk ,, frets are all nasty cut his fingers on the sharp ends ,, & the knobs for strings are junk all loose fits I would say he is not very happy with that double necker at all,,,

Gibson is so unhinged with their price gouging I kinda enjoy them getting dunked on by the counterfeit market.

Dear Sir I just came across your video. I must say that without a doubt you are one of the most honest person I’ve heard on social media. You have more or less summarised the nonsense n noise that have surrounded the current US/China trade relations which is sad.

Gibson is now overpricing Epiphone's, for me that was the final straw.

I could not care less about minor cosmetic imperfections at the sort of price these cost. What's most important is it playable. Does it intonate correctly..and then how does if feel? Weight matters (esp with Les Paul type guitars which can be like boat anchors) and the shape of the neck. All that aside, tuners , electronics can be replaced to taste.

My brother got one in the Philippines cheap and I spent 2 hours on crowning & buffing the frets that looked like 10 miles of bad road. It doesn’t hold tuning very well and the action is crap but its a good slide guitar.

So is there any possibility to get this beauty today? Love the signature SG, but I don't wanna pay 2-3K bucks for it.

Enough room in that body for an active pickup setup. Get bigger pots, drill accordingly. Active picups and a patch of tape beside the pots for a 9v. Some.locking tuners and shes ready to shred.

I love that Hetfield OGV it just looks and sounds great! I gotta admit I didn't know James Hetfield's original OGV was made in Japan and wasn't a Gibson.

I think everyone who watches your channel now, doesn't care where they are made, who made them, or why. We just like them, so I personally don't think we need any more dialog about them being China guitars. They're just cool guitars.

I bought one so i could beat the shit out of it on stage and leave my nice expensive guitars at home where they're insured. And if one gets stolen at a show it's not a devastating loss. The first one i got in a trade was a zakk wylde lp that i refinished. Great playing guitars for the ones I've gotten. All the electronics suck though.

I bought my DC pro-jet electomatic used for $150... it's a true gretsch. Just sand the top a clearcoat, and no need for aliexpress

Hit pickups

I wanted to get this or a baretta special but i might just build a parts guitar. Or at least get one from a store where i can make sure its okay. This reminds me of my friend having to send back multiple Epiphone Ghosthorses for egregious issues. A good one is good but Gibson and friends seem to have some intense quality issues.
