- Today I am cooking at home and making tres leches cake from scratch. This recipe can be doubled for a larger cake. You can add fresh fruit for garnish and different toppings to make it festive.

INGREDIENTS
8-inch baking pan or dish
1/2 cup plus 2 Tbsp (75 g) all-purpose flour
1 tsp baking powder
1/4 tsp salt
3 large eggs (separated)
1/2 cup (100 g) sugar
3 Tbsp (45 ml) whole milk
1 tsp vanilla extract
7 oz (198 g) sweetened condensed milk
3/4 cup (207 ml) evaporated milk
1/3 cup (78 ml) whole milk
2-inch piece orange peel (optional)
1 cinnamon stick (optional)
TOPPING
1 cup (236.5 ml) whipping cream
1 1/2 Tbsp confectioner's sugar

This cake is my life. We used to put cherries or cinnamon on top. Then we got really bougie and started topping with strawberries. Soooooo good! I'm glad this is a 8×8.

Tried this recipe today, doubled the measurements and for some reason when I added the dry ingredients the batter became almost like a dough so I just added more milk and it turned out delicious😋.Will definitely use this recipe again🙂

Tres leches is always a winner. When I started dating my now husband, I made him a tres leches nutella cake. Chocolate cake and substituted condensed milk for nutella. Then added a little nutella to the whipped cream. He says he fell head over heels.
That sounds amazing!
I don’t understand how Nutella was a equal substitute for the condensed milk since they have two different very different consistencies and would create a different texture when added.
@@HoneyBunches100 I add some milk to make it pourable, also warm it in the microwave to be easy to mix. But not to much milk as I'm adding whole milk and evaporated milk to the mix.

I was born and raised in San Antonio and have enjoyed this cake many times, yet never made it myself. Thank you for the recipe and great video!
Followed your directions all the way through and the cake was so yummy. I did let it sit overnight with the milk mixture and whipped/ added the cream in the morning and ate it for breakfast (judge not!) The size was perfect for my small fam. Bc I was feeling myself, i made the next batch with the leftover canned milks and added 1/4 cup of brandy to the milk mixture after i removed it from heat. Yummy again. Thank you for helping me a great recipe, definitely in my rotation from now on!
