- This little miracle baby is turning 3 YEARS OLD this month thanks to the village that saved him 💗
Born on a slaughterhouse floor to a very sick mother, we didn't know at first if he would make it. The Gentle Barn founders Ellie Laks and Jay Weiner rescued him and brought him into their home and his healing journey began! Veterinarians came out, volunteers visited, he began a friendship with Sky the dog, and later he joined the cow herd. This year, our senior cows Roy and Mercy moved to the main property, and Lewis was instantly smitten-they look after him now too!
It's thanks this community of founders, veterinarians, staff, volunteers, animals friends, and people cheering him on around that world that Lewis has grown into the happy, healthy, and vibrant teenager he is today.
The Gentle Barn is a non profit animal sanctuary with locations in Los Angeles, CA, Nashville, TN, and St. Louis, MO. We rescue neglected and traumatized animals from all circumstances, we rehabilitate them, and when they're ready we partner with them to heal people with the same stories of trauma. We rescue cows, horses, pigs, sheep, goats, chickens, turkeys, peacocks, emus, llamas, donkeys, and more. Our mission is to show people the love and magic of animals by sharing their stories and how living a gentle life can help heal animals, humans, and the world.

I'm not taking anything away from, Lewis. I agree, he grew into a wonderful little guy! But, what choice do we really have!...I lost my only child to cancer five yrs ago. Friends still say to me, how do you do it? I could not go on? But, somehow you do. You just, do. I mean, how many choices are there? You either keep going, or you don't. Lewis, maybe didn't know of any other ways to do it. Am I making any sense? Maybe not. Giving up, dying, is NOT an option. At least , not in my eyes. So, you just keep putting one foot in front of the other, and.....
