As a boomer and also a huge Zeppelin fan since the early 70s, I have to admit that this new music by GVF is refreshing, to say the least. This band has the potential to give the millennials the old 70s style rock that we boomers enjoyed back in the day, and bridge the gap between young and old. Very impressive to see that these young kids have chosen to bring back the old rock that died off so long ago. Many people my age were devastated when John Bonham passed almost 43 years ago, and we all knew that Led Zeppelin was gone with him. When I heard this for the first time, it invoked some deep emotions, taking me back 43 years ago, and wondering what could have been if John hadn't died so long ago. I like to imagine that this is what they would have sounded like, had they continued. Very close to the Led Zeppelin sound, but not quite, as no one can ever sound like Robert, Jimmy, John and John Paul, but GVF is as close as we can get.
These fellas are headed for the big time, and if I were them, I wouldn't change a thing. I don't think they're cloning Zeppelin, as they might sound eerily similar, but any die hard Zeppelin fan knows the difference between the two. I just hope they can overcome the haters and critics, and continue down the path of success. These young men are bringing back what rock and roll needs...a resurrection!!!

Lifelong, hardcore old fart LZ fan and guitarist here (I'm 67). I know the entire catalogue backwards, forwards and sideways. I am absolutely uncompromising when it comes to sound-alikes and cover bands. If you're going to get my attention in that arena, you've gotta execute it, 120% AND bring something unique to the table. I have no patience for limp imitations. That said, let me tell you about the first time I heard GVF. It was this tune. The opening hook caught my attention immediately and drew me in. By the time Josh had gotten through "ohhhh...mama," I had goosebumps. That's never happened before. Talk all you want about imitation, but don't tell me I don't recognize real mojo when I hear it. That's the difference between these guys and MANY other tribute bands and wannabes. "Highway Tune" is not one of those "listen to how close we sound to the legends" deals. To my ears, this was, "We LOVE Led Zeppelin and are inspired by them, so we're gonna bring it and set it on fire - deal with it." Subsequent songs and albums have shown tremendous creative growth and prove that they are not pale imitators, but keepers of the flame. Rock on, lads!

I have to pretty much agree with most everything you said about the Led Zeppelin cover band thing. With that said a friend of mine, who is a professional, recording artist drummer, was doing a gig with the bassist from an all female tribute, Led Zeppelin band, called Zepparella
I personally had never heard of them Holy crap she is incredible (Angeline Saris) I check out there stuff and damn - of course there not Zep and there not trying to be , but there all very talented musicians
Anyway I’m agreeing to agree to kinda disagree on this one tiny microscopic, isolated part of your statement….. sorta …
      😂. Have a great day.

I was.....and am impressed with GVF and hope they can navigate fame better than a great deal of the 60s and 70s "stars" did.....RIP Bonzo et al

I learned about this band from an interview with Robert Plant. He was asked if there are any new bands he liked. He mentioned this one as being good. He did not think they were a rip-off or imitation even though there were similarities he hears. Basically he said the kid sounds like he sounds, it’s not an imitation and the. Univ is 1970s influenced rock and roll. Josh’s voice has changed his voice some over the years IMHO. His voice is big. His extended voices (Ooh Mama) now have a little vibrato added and he has developed a great yodel that he uses that sets him apart from other singers. My guess was he tried to develop his own sound. Think of Robert Plant’s sound in the opening of Immigrant song or his voicing of the call in Achilles Last Stand or his “Oh’s” in D’yer M’yker. They are very clean. Josh has added some raspy vibrato over the years. GVF has covered Zeppelin at live shows as they were starting out. They did not sound that great, I was expecting spot-on sound. It sounded way off. Their music has developed. Song writing is better. Music more complex arrangements, and they are bringing back the drum solos in live concerts! But nothing tops Zeppelin. But I don’t really compare the two any more, there is a difference. But can you image you put this song up on CZcams in your teens and all of a sudden everyone is comparing you to Led Zeppelin, and you have to start every interview with that question. A lot of pressure. Even if they played “Oh MacDaniel on the Farm” once the kid started singing everyone automatically thinks Robert Plant. Plus Plant said it’s been over 40 years since Zep began. He was glad that the sound of his era was coming back.

But then It started freaking annoying the shit out of my brain. Why because they have nothing absolutely. It’s been years that they had to prove that they are Greta Van Fleet. But no they can’t even do that because they stick as being a Led Zeppelin tribute band with original songs. I won’t ever buy a stupid record for the one hit wonderful song. I’m still discovering Led Zeppelin! apart from the original recordings there are bootlegs records available, I don’t waste time on imitators if you want to listen to something original listen to Cage the elephant they at least try to be themselves and have their own Efen voice!!!!! The day I’ll buy a Greta Van Fleet is when they don’t sound like Led Zeppelin and actually be themselves not clones.
