  • DISCLAIMER: I repeat myself in this video about my stance on catching large bass and keeping/cooking them. I repeat myself due to the negative feedback that I received when I first advertised it.
    These fish were caught here in Central Florida during a small vessel fishing club tournament, Bassin Buddies Orlando. Check out the video of the tournament of when they were caught....

    Smaller LM bass is great to eat when caught in clear water creeks. They are just as good as walleye in my own personal opinion, but I also fish is crystal clear northern creeks, where their diet is trout/walleye/salmon so that might be why.

    You did nothing wrong, I use to be die hard catch and release. I now catch them to eat and also release a lot. I do not know why people think they are destroying the fish population by keeping a few. There are a tremendous amount of bass out there and to keep all the other species but not bass is what I consider an unhealthy imbalance. I do agree to always release the big females. Little males are a dime a dozen. Bass have pin bones in the center of the fillet that must be removed to be boneless. Watch any video on my channel that has catch clean and cook in it. Bass taste fantastic and have a wonderful flavor/texture.

    Bass aren't going extinct. Not sure why folks feel ashamed to promote eating them in moderation. I could understand overfishing keepers in a smaller body of water, but seriously eating 4-5 pounders from rime to time is not a sin.

    Eat or release is a personal choice, I don't like tournament fishing pressure or bed fishing,again your choice 😉

    I'm new. Help me understand why catching and eating the Bass is a bad idea?

    • @SwampazzFishing

      It’s not a “bad” idea, just a lot of sport fisherman consider bass a sport fish and should be treated as such and are VERY passionate about it. Especially the larger ones. They should be released so they can reproduce and keep their genes going. I’m not opposed to catching and eating the 1-3 lbers, but catching multiple large bass and taking them is frowned upon. My lake used to have 12+ lbers but there is a public dock across the way where people would hang live shiners off and take the big ones home. Now it’s difficult to even catch a decent 3+. A body of water with just a bunch of small bass is considered unhealthy. “Let em go to watch them grow!”

      That is very good advice! This was almost 2 months ago, just getting around to editing the video. I have since added a new, more powerful aerator, I use the G-juice additive and keep a smaller cooler on the boat with a bag of ice that I scoop in during tournaments. It really does work!

      @SwampazzFishing  Před 6 lety +1

      Absolutely. I would have had over 14lbs and second place would have only been over 12lbs.
