Also, does the gear for the speedometer pickup freewheel, or do you torque to where it only rotates with the drive shaft? If that makes any sense to you. I just replaced the bearing and decided to take that gear off the end of the driveshaft but forgot if it freewheeled or not.
Thank you Scott for this great video. Is it possible to remove the shaft from the top to be able to change the bearing and at the same time change the one on the side of the chaincase. I have a Polaris Switchback adventure 600 - 2012, 18000 km. The bottom two are done. Sorry, I'm getting confused between driveshaft and jackshaft.
Great video, thanks. I did mine last week. Last question, what about the jack shaft and drive bearings on the other side in the chain case? Does the chain case oil get to them or do you repack those bearings with grease as well?
No you don't have to. Just loosen off the track and when you put the cover back on, use something to push the driveshaft back into position so the holes in the cover line up with the holes on the tunnel. I use a 2x4.
I have a 2016 600 indy with 5,000 miles. How would I know if this bearing needs to be replaced? Sled runs and drives fine, always dealer serviced. Took for ride this weekend and thought I heard whirring noise when accelerating/ louder when decelerating below 30 mph. Not sure if I am just hearing the motor, or if it is this bearing.
Take the cover off and see if it has any play in it by wiggling it back and forth. With 5k I'd certainly service both the jackshaft and driveshaft bearings.
I have a polaris indy 600sp 2013 can you help me when i try to put in reverse the sled shut down after 3or4 try they will work but everytime i try is the same problem thanks sorry for my english
Good information. Thanks Scott.
Steve

I've never worried about the bearings in the chaincase. Most failures are on the two bearings on this side.
This is a great video, thanks!
One question, how do you get the new bearing back on without pulling the drive shaft out?
Heat it up a little and tap it back on the shaft.
Nice video. How did you get all that to align perfectly at the end when you were reassembling ? I loosened my track no luck
Have to push driveshaft forward. I use a 2x4 and start the bolts.
Do you put a jack underneath the driveshaft to stop it from dropping down a bit when you take the speedometer housing off?
No you don't have to. Just loosen off the track and when you put the cover back on, use something to push the driveshaft back into position so the holes in the cover line up with the holes on the tunnel. I use a 2x4.

Classic sign of compression. Get a tester and make sure the cylinders are even and above 120/130
How hard was it to replace that bearing the year before Scott? Did you have to pull the whole drive shaft?
No, you can change that end right in the sled. Just need a bearing puller.
Okay thanks, I’ll open mine up and see what size bearing puller I need.
