I had mostly free stuff, too - but I was still running out of room. I don't like having to redownload things based on what I want to play that day. YMMV!
Awesome video! Exactly what I needed to know done perfectly
Thank you so much you done this in full detail! This has helped me so much
Wow this was all around an AWESOME video. Thanks for showing the entire process!
Thank you, sir - I'm glad you found it useful!
Always test the new hard drive first cause if it doesnt work some stuff you will be SOL when it tries to transfer and just goes corrupt. Just a warning as i know he didnt mention this in video.
Hey man loved the video was clear and helpful. Quick question I just bought the tranfer cable but mine doesn't come with the utility disc will I need the disc ??
I’m not sure, mate...
Well this was helpful, I plan on doing this in the next couple weeks
Great video! I would like to know if the license transfer is absolutely required? I saw you play a game before the transfer but I'm just making sure?
I suggest reading up on licenses here: xbox.com/drm
that was quite good and informative.
I've heard that some brands of Xbox 360 hard drives don't support original Xbox games. What brand is your new hard drive? Have you tried reinstalling games like Fable and Halo from scratch?
Awesome! Video thanks for the complete walks through. 👍👍⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️
helped me a lot thanks
I'm glad it helped! Enjoy.
Gamebits Yes!
Peace! Thanks. I have an issue with my Xbox 360 console where I cannot see or select storage unit when I'm in the settings? My external save device shows up, but not the console's hard drive? The console recognizes the full content, but it won't let me go into it to delete or remove. I'm at a standstill here, got any suggestions other than buying a new hard drive?
Thanks.a few questions... what was the utility disk you used? is that necessary? where/how do i get 1?
Mine came with the cable. I'm told it's not necessary, but I don't know how it'd work without it.
Thank you this is very helpful
Did your DLC add ons still work? I remember after my original Xbox 360 died, I put it's hard drive in a new one and it acted like I didn't have the DLC and had to use the license transfer thing multiple times to get them to work.
Did you ever get an update on the data that was left over after the transfer, still on your old drive? What was it? And did you have nay problems due to that data not being transferred? Thank you if you can respond.
I didn't notice anything not migrating. I've had no problems since the transfer.
do you know inside the hard drive case its just a mini drive you can take it apart and it even goes in the slim I have terra byte hds inside the case and as for transfer disc cable don't waste the money just use a usb flash drive or memory stick
Couldn't you just plug in the new hard drive with the cable and use it as an external hard drive instead of replacing the old hard drive and transferring everything to the new one? Seems like it would be less hassle.
you don't need the transfer disc anymore.. the Console's OS has it built in now.
HUGSaLOT Valkyrie thank you so much I was wondering that thx
Yeah, I never needed one when I upgraded my 360 from a '20bg' drive to a '60gb' drive.
What's the difference from using the front usb port vs the rear port for transfer ? On Microsoft site they show the front port.
Pat Thompson
Between the two sides of the USB ports I would assume the front ones are easier to use so thats probably why they said that one if they said something like "ONLY USE FRONT" then there very well could be a more darker creepy reason why or that there incompatible with the back USB ports I would see no reason for them to be incompatible unless they were damaged.
But between you and me I think Microsoft always hated the back USB ports, when the Xbox 360 E was released they removed one of the back USB ports so there is something suspicious.
You don't need the disc if you have a connection to Xbox Live and the latest software update.
Can i transfer only certain thing onto a new drive or do i have to transfer it all cause the drive i have is a 320 gig and its full so i want another 320 gig one so i can put some games one to clear space on the original.
Thanks!
If I install this new HD from the link you gave, will it play Microsoft games like Destiny which are unable to be played on my 4GB unit now and 3rd party HD units?
Got me. Sorry.
i just get a 120gb hard drive to my xbox 360 arcade but i cant play gta v and fifa 17. can u help me?
I sold all da parts of my 360 a long time ago and I’m thinking of rebuying all da games and wires and hard drive but since it’s a new hard drive will I still have my data saved from the games Or will everything be gone ? Cuz I will still be using the same account
My daughter has this console and needs my help to upgrade the console. Well I'm not a gamer, just a little techy, so I'm not familiar with any game console. I want to know if I have to actually replace the hard drive or if I can just use the new larger one as an external drive? And if I do replace it do we need to connect her console to the internet to get the licenses or will it just transfer from her old hard drive? Thanks! And great tutorial.
Angie Aguilar No Internet connectivity needed, AFAIK. As for using it as an external drive, I haven't tried that, but it wouldn't hurt to try, so go ahead and let us know what happens!
OMG I LOVE U THANKS I SUBSCRIBE!!
Does the transfer cable you put in the description come with a transfer disc
Good question! I've just updated the video description to indicate that the cable does in fact come with the disc. Thanks for pointing it out!
I bought the same new HD on Amazon but I got a mini-disk and my Xbox reads it as 'Mixed Media Disk' and doesn't do anything when I click on it. Any suggestions?
Great video, great commentary. Thankyou.
One thing of friendly advice: maybe it's just me, but I can hear your mouth like moving and stuff, so maybe turn the mic sensitivity down a bit. Other then that, great job.
Thanks! I'm not sure my headset has that feature. Would love to upgrade my A/V equipment.
Can we play games like GTA v and forza on 512mb memory console using flash drives ? And my console has rubber type of material where we attach hard drive
Does it work without the transfer disk cause I want to change my storage but I want to be sure
NP just trying to help :) Course ive just recently bought a cheap 32 gb psp memcard so Ill be taking my own advice very soon.
Thx For the info i did not know
Please reply I have a 250GB hard drive and the transfer kit all i need is the disc and I'm looking everywhere for it i even searched the link on your video and it just lead me to the cable...Please help
Does this work if you buy a new xbox and you want to transfer saves?
Great video dude
Thanks!
yes it has built in memory 120gb
Does this also enable original xbox game playback as I know there are certain files that are required to enable backward compatibility?
Those files are built into the Xbox 360 firmware. You don't need a hard drive for that feature. Upgrading the hard drive neither enables nor disables features.
I wanted to play dragon age inquisition, so I ordered the s=disk, but when i inserted it it says it needs a hard drive, so I ordered an external hard drive. It still didn't work, so I looked it up, and it needs an internal hard drive :( but I don't know where to install the internal hard drive for this model of the 360, since I don't have the xbox 360 slim. Is it even possible to install it internally? this turned out to be a lot of work.
Can you use the hard drive transfer cable as a link to connect another hard drive to your Xbox as an external storage device?
I don't think so, but I haven't tried.
I'm trying to figure out how to transfer content off the hardrive to something else without the console since my current one has the red ring of death
When I bought my cable it came with a smaller disc and when I put it in the console it shows up on he green square but won't play. HELP!!
You only wanna transfer license if your using a new Xbox that you want to be your main xbox and or want to be able to play your gamesa offline onto.
How do yo get more wallpapers for the xbox home/dashboard?
Is it possible to transfer my data from my 20gb hard drive to my slims hard drive with other games on it cause my xbox with the 20 gb doesn't even work please respond immediately
Hey,i have a new redesigned 360 that is supposed to look like the One which it does but,i took my old drive out if the case so now its just the software so that i can put it as an internal but the prongs/plug in holes dont match and i dont know what to do can u help me.Thanks
Sorry, but my only familiarity with upgrading 360 hard drives is with the models seen in this video.
If I leave my old hard drive in and buy a 500 hard drive and plug that behind my game will it work ?
Justin20 yeah it will but it is slower
I find this funny because I was like, wait a second, my Xbox doesn't have that, and then you removed the hard drive and i was like OH MY GOD MY XBOX DOESN'T EVEN HAVE A HARD DRIVE
Oh, gosh - how do you play without a hard drive?! 😱
Trying to upgrade my old 20GB HD, but the 360 won't recognize the new 120GB. I've tried all of the troubleshooting tips on the Xbox site, along with some other suggestions made on various online forums, but no dice. Any thoughts?

Although the hard drive does sound defective so its probably broke.
Is this hard drive still still working reliably for you? I think mine crashed on me last night and I was going to buy one of these but want to make sure it's going to last.
Still works great!
I have a pre-owned original Xbox 360 console that I did not get with a utility disk. Can we install one of these external hard drives without having a utility disk?
I'm told you can, but I'm not sure how it works.
Where can I obtain the disk? By the way ur video waas helpfil and thorough.
Thanks! My disc came with the transfer cable.
Thanks buddy by the way can the one games work on the 360 games I'm trying not to buy me a one system but is it impossible
Xbox One games work on Xbox One only.
Will it work when I remove the plug?
thx for ur advice man x
Do I have to have the transfer disc in order to do the transfer
Gamebits
Thinking about doing this to save my Xbox 360, the hard drive is quite old and might eventually give up, and I don’t want to lose all my old save data.
Storing your save data in the cloud with Xbox Live Gold is also an option. 🤔
Hi I bought a 320gb hard drive for my xbox 360 the original model ive transferred all my saves but the xbox normal games like fable 1 and halo 1 wont copy over and work do you know why please help
How can you get a utility disc if hard drive didn't come with one? Only HD and transfer cable included. Please help.
Luvcat1974
I think the disc is just a shortcut
helped me alot
A friend sent me the transfer cable but not the disc. Do you really need that?
I am in the process of transferring all of my data and updating my hardrive from the 20 gb to 320 gb. I was wondering if you could tell me if its possible to transfer game content (for example map packs I bought for COD Black ops II) from an xbox 360 slim to a regular xbox through this method. I have an xbox 360 slim that has all of my game data on it. Would I need a different transfer cable from the one you use. Will the data on the original xbox 360 slim hardrive be corrupted and not be usable.
Looks like this is possible: www.gamefront.com/how-to-transfer-old-xbox-360-data-to-a-new-xbox-360-slim/
no I'm trying to do the reverse...? from new to old...is that possible?
Christian Chandler I've seen tutorials out there about how to transfer data from one Slim to another. I'm not sure about your particular scenario, though.
ok, thanks anyway.
Does it matter whether you have the old hard drive or the new hard drive IN your xbox when you transfer?
My kit instructed me to put the new hard drive in the console then conduct the transfer. I haven't tried it the other way.
Does it work with the 360 elite model
are there in stores?
does it make any difference if u put the new or old hard drive on the xbox to transfer?
I'm not sure.
can you swap in a 250 gb slim model xbox 360 hard drive to this older 60 gb xbox 360?
AFAIK, different models of Xbox 360 require different models of hard drive.
Hey mine went all well but wen I finished transferring it it sed I had an Xbox dashboard update nd it's taking at least 2 hours
please please help my xbox just keeps loading and loading its something wrong with the hard drive we tested it and i need a new one the old one is broke we can't log into it but i have so many friends and games i downloaded i don't want to lose it
I'm just here for the satisfying swap of the hard drives
Then check out my PS4 video, too! czcams.com/video/yT0balVykhM/video.html
My xbox got a red ring, and idk if it will fuck up my xbox to where I can't play it, my hard drive has save data EX: Gta singleplayer can I put my hard drive in a new xbox if I where to get one would I have my gta saved data possibly on another account or maybe I have to use my xbox live account and have it? Might sound confusing but it's hard to explain, any help would be appreciated
Is it worth transfering a 20gb hart drive if we have not pay for nothing it's just the free stuff
I have a question can I use the other types of hard drives on this one
I don't know. Sorry.
Man didnt know of a 250hd that comes with a transfer cable and and disc. Im screwed since i just bought the 250hd from a bestbuy retailer. How am i suppose yo transfer my data now? Or where can i just get the transfer kitt?
Here ya go: amzn.to/17x1wzE
Cool thanks
***** Nice find! That's a much more affordable alternative. It *should* work, but I haven't tested it so can't offer any guarantees.
Yes you are right
Hey can I do this if i have a Xbox 360 slim please because I want to move my saves
Yes, but the instructions are different. support.xbox.com/en-US/xbox-360/accessories/add-remove-hard-drive#1815dea13c75463088eb55e192f20990
What happens to the content in Download History?
What do u record ur xbox with. I havent seen people record on an older console please reply
I use the Elgato Game Capture HD.
Ok so it works on the xbox in this video?
Evan Gordon Yes.
When your link days "& disc" is that true ? Because the name of the item on amazon says otherwise ??
Joe Scorpion I'm told it works without a disc.
Oh ok, cool thanks mate
Do you need to have internet?
thank you so much
You're welcome!
when got the transfer cable i didnt get the utility disk
Can I just move the data from the hard drive connected to the cable to the old one without the disc?
AJ Owens
Yes I believe the disc is a sh*tty shortcut for people who like to follow instructions, people that like life easier or NOOBS.
Hi there, I know this video is old, but with this cable attached to an external harddrive can the attched harddrive in fact be used as an harddive?
say if i need another and didn't want to transfer just use it as an harddrive via the cable?
I think so, but I haven't tested this.
So, what i'm basicly saying is, if i plug the usb side into the xbox and the HDD part into the HDD (obviously) the HDD that i've connected to the xbox with the cable can be used as an HDD to save games/gamefiles etc
And load from
Ryan Wilkie You can use USB hard drives with the Xbox 360. I don't know if that includes the hard drives used in this video. More details at support.xbox.com/en-US/xbox-360/accessories/usb-flash-drive
It came with the cable as part of the transfer kit.
Gamebits is Xbox live gone for this console?
Strawberry Shortcake no
Gamebits, I have everything you have in the video, the 60GB hard drive transferring to the 250GB with a transfer cable, even the same exact box you recieved it in. Idk wtf to do bc it isn't as easy as it was for you. It's showing up as 31GB when I plug mine in and I don't know how to fix it. I've tried formatting it and everything else. HELP!!!!
Wish I could help, but I did this process only the one time, and it worked. Sorry!
Where can I get it? Or Can I do it without it?
One question can I put my hard disc drive into an xbox one?
The Xbox One hard drive is not meant to be user-upgradeable.
Where can i get a utility disc ? I searched everywhere, can't find it.
Some comments on this video suggest it's no longer needed. I can't verify that, but I do see the disc for sale on eBay for US$10.
Can you plug the transfer cable USB port to the Xbox 1
I don't know anything about upgrading the Xbox One - sorry!
I think I just ordered the transfer cable without the disk! Can I still transfer data without the disk??
I doubt it. Sorry!
Yes.
hello, i have a problem with transferring a profile from an Xbox to an Xbox. First off im transferring from the old Xbox 360 to a new slim. I transferred the profile through a 32GB USB but i don't have my data from my games like gears of war or call of duty. I have no idea what to do now. I downloaded the profile as well because i didn't have it on my hard drive. But even though i have it on one xbox i can download it on the other. I need help, if anyone can help me get my stuff back i'd appreciate it thanks.
Do you know about the dragon age inquisition hard drive problem for xbox360 users ?
if you do I really need some help. My xbox 360 only have like a 3 GB and inquisition demands about 7.6 GB what do I need to do like I have a usb that can take over 30 GB but it dosn't respond at all to it. Do you have any tips Im really Gratefull for all the tips I can get.
Same thing happened to me with battlefeild 4 well not really I have a 3gb xbox 360 and it only demands to I cleared out the space for it and now it demands a hardrive WTF someone please help me
Is it still working.?
Can u use it as another drive without transfering all your saved data.?
My new hard drive is still working. I don't believe you can have two hard drives of this type connected simultaneously, but you can use a thumb drive with the USB port.
If I put the hard drive in and it doesn't come up in the storage area does that mean it's defective or do I need the transfer cable in order for my new hard drive to work?
You don't need a transfer cable for the hard drive to work.
Do you know what I should do in order to get the hard drive working it just doesn't show up when I connect it
rob flo I don't. Sorry. I would contact whoever sold you the drive.
Sup bro just what 2 no the name where u got new hdd wood they do 500gb on it i got old school one like yours no hdd tho lol keen as
Are you asking where I got my hard drive? There's a link in the video description.
Does it come with the xbox or something?
