    The first time I climbed up on a grader an old duffer told me this. "Remember, every person will tell you how they could do a better job in that grader than you, but not a damn one of them could actually do it".
    I never forgot that.
    Carry on. I have no advice for you my friend. Thanks for the ride along though.

      When I was teaching people how to run grader I told them; Every operator you talk to is going to have some different ideas and techniques, listen to them all and take away the best tips that you find work for you.

      Large engine produces a good amount of heat for the coolant lines.

      I like watching the wing plow the snow looks almost fluid coming off of it conforming to whatever it encounters

  • @robertmintz63
    @robertmintz63 Před 3 lety +2

    It is obvious in the starting picture that the wind comes from the left side of the grader , & piles the majority of the snow on that side , so I would be plowing that side first , rolling the snow as far across the road as possible , then on the return trip , Change the direction of the blade to plow to the left to finish the road , while I did high banking with my wing to cut the bank down & move it further away from the road ! May take more than one round , Also the township or county should erect a snow fence out in the field , which causes the wind to rise & drop its snow 50yds from the road ! You can see in the pic at 7.55 that the snow is being plowed to the right side here (which is wrong) this is where the wind is coming from , this causes the snow to pile more on that side instead of blowing all the way across & just keeping on going to drop at the next high ridge it comes to

      @farmingourway8493  Před 3 lety

      This was just one of the back up units my neighbor has that my brother used to help them. I believe he has 2 others and on of them is all wheel drive. can push through bigger snow banks in one shot and not have to hit it 2 or 3 times to get through because you start to lose traction.

    What do you do if your doing back roads -30 deg and no cell service and your machine catches fire and you can't put it out and your only there in t shirt like you are there what would yahh do

    • @farmingourway8493
      @farmingourway8493  Před 2 lety +2

      for 1 there are multiple farms in the area, not sure where your from but here there is usually 1 within a mile. 2 it normally isnt -30 if it is even with the heater on you would need more then a t shirt. 3 he has a coat, hat and gloves with. because it isn't new and things need fixing and need to go outside.

    Those have to be the most difficult vehicle to operate. There is so many different levers!

    • @farmingourway8493
      @farmingourway8493  Před 4 lety +5

      for the snow plowing you only use a few of them.
      - one switch on the side, controls the wing up and down, you mainly leave it set unless going by a mail box or stop sign it may need to be lifted up.
      - one lever controls the front blade up and down. you only have to use that one if going over another road or turning, otherwise he made a custom guide wheel so you can just put the lever in float and the guide wheel will keep the blade a consistent high off the ground.
      - the main two levers that are used are for the blade under the grader. one controls the right side of the blade up and down and the other one controls the left side up and down

    • @robertmintz63

      Farming our way One controls the angle (rotation) & one the vertical of the blade ,And you can put the mold board in float

  • @tomcander3669
    @tomcander3669 Před 4 lety +1

    Add float to the grader blade

    • @farmingourway8493
      @farmingourway8493  Před 3 lety +2

      The front blade is on float because it rides on a wheel and keeps it off the ground about 6". If he put the belly blade on float it would dig in to the gravel road to much, and come spring there wouldn't be any left on the road. Its not like a tar road or hard pavement where you can put it on float and not have to worry about it digging in.

      @@farmingourway8493 we plowed stone parking lots for years with a Galion grader and never had problems. You'll always drag some off the top then you grade it back in the Spring

  • @michaelobrien9764
    @michaelobrien9764 Před 3 lety +1

    This grader should have float on blade height adjustment why don't use it? Adjust the moldboard to where it works best without damaging pavement.

    • @farmingourway8493
      @farmingourway8493  Před 3 lety +3

      There is no paved roads, its all gravel roads. If it is put on float it will plow a lot of the gravel into the ditch.

    • @rosssikorski7085
      @rosssikorski7085 Před 3 lety +1

      Floats are the fastest way to get a sloppy mouldboard, you wear out your circle pins and bushings super fast. If you want to be a skilled operator you pretend they never existed.

    Front blade looks useless. Doesn’t seem like it’s scraping at all maybe cause you’re using the other blade for that?

    • @farmingourway8493
      @farmingourway8493  Před 3 lety

      the front blade stays off the ground 6-8", mainly use that for any big drifts. the bottom blade does the touch up work.

    Gotta Love the Champion graders. Volvo bought Champion then Goderich built Volvo badged graders then Volvo closed the plant and not long after that they quit building graders all together. Champion had a 100yr history of building road maintenance machines. What a dumb move by Volvo as the market was/is there for another grader manufacturer. Ill never buy a Volvo anything now.....
