The World's 4 LARGEST HYBRID Roller Coasters | Which is the Best? | Analysis and Review

- Arguably the most iconic type of roller coaster is the classic wooden coaster. Usually delivering a slightly bumpy ride filled with fairly large drops and hills. But over time, these wooden thrill machines become worn out. Sometimes the time and money devoted to maintenance of the ride can become too much and the park is forced to close the ride or even tear it down. Luckily, in the late 2000’s, manufacturer Rocky Mountain Construction had an idea. They designed a track made up of two steel rails that would replace the aging wooden track, making it into a steel hybrid coaster. Since then, almost 15 hybrid coasters have been built worldwide, 3 of them surpassing 200 feet. Today, we will be diving into the four largest, and some would say best RMC Hybrid coasters: Steel Vengeance at Cedar Point, Zadra at Energylandia, Iron Gwazi at Busch Gardens Tampa, and Hakugei at Nagashima Spaland.

Out of these 4 roller coasters, I have only been on Iron Gwazi, but Iron Gwazi is currently my favorite roller coaster.
Agree
I hear that. That Steel Vengeance is CRAZY fun!!
I really wanna go on Iron Gwazi but SteVe is currently my v favorite roller coaster
I've ridden none of these, but SteVe has the most addictive sequencing. However, Iron Gwazi's death roll looks to be the most surprising inversion. It looks like you're gonna bank to make a left turn but no. You're yeeted into a combination inversion-drop at full speed. Woah.
yeah the death roll looks insane
@@ejectorthrills1 it is and wasn't expecting it, but that's also because i didn't know anything about RMC or Gwazi before
Excellent critique, even Alan told us SV was his favorite child. I couldn't agree more, what thrilling World Class Coaster!
15:28 The second hill on the double down gives strong ejector and insane laterals.
"Iron Gwazi does have a turn to the right at the crest of the drop, but that really doesn't add anything to the thrill of the drop." *Iron Rattler: Am I a joke to you?*
I haven't ridden Iron Rattler, but I'm pretty sure the drop is good because of the left turn over the crest of the drop which gives the most lateral forces, and the right turn at the bottom is good because the train was turning left before it instead of just going straight. That's just speculation though. The turn at the bottom of iron gwazi might still be good.
Twisted Colossus does the same thing
It's an engineering element
@@EliteCoastersI’ve been on it 3 times and i didn’t think it added anything
@jameson_coasterlover3411 surprisingly the pullout is one if the more forgettable elements even though there's a awesome headchopper!
If you never ridden Zadra than you don't know how insane it's finale is. Definitely better finale than Igwazi. When it comes to Zadra vs Igwazi I choose Zadra becouse it's more intense and aggressive but if you like more Airtime than choose Igwazi it's really all about personal preferences
as someone who has ridden SV and Iron Gwazi with no loyalty to either I would say SV is incredble and long but Iron Gwazi is just bonkers with the intensity. it never lets up where SV does. I like the intesity better than the length, but these are probably two of the best in the world either will give you a great ride!
Hakugi has to be bigger than 129 feet. its 180 feet tall and the drop goes all the way to the ground almost. That drop looks a lot bigger than 129 feet.
If steel vengeance had a normal zero g stall, or if the stall it does have is just as good, it might be litterally impossible to make something better . Great video btw, really enjoyed this one
Imo, the stall on Steel Vengeance is much better than a “normal” stall. There is hang time and the whip into and out of the inversion is crazy. It is my favorite inversion that I’ve ever been on.
You should do a video on which Goliath in the Six Flags chain is the best. I don’t have a list, but make sure you have:
Six Flags Over Georgia
Six Flags Magic Mountain
Six Flags Great America
And any other ones I left out
Also Zadra is 200 feet.
Six Flags Over Georgia Is the best one.
my favorite in the six flags chain is nitro, the first drop is so intense and messes you up so much that u don’t feel anything after that until you get off the ride
@@marshallmathers9996 ah yes, nitro. My favorite Goliath
@@charliegriswold1445 i didnt read the comment right lol im retarded
@@sdoogan90 Walibi Holland??
Zadra all day long - probably because it was an original design not a modified old coaster
RMC is definitely onto something with Gwazi , I compare it to Fury 325 and Montu for being my favorites. I will say Gwazi is a little shorter then id like but the pacing and intensity is so amazing I see why it was built the way it was as it does make it easier to marathon. Front and back rides are a must.
As someone who hasn't ridden a single RMC as I live in the U.K, based on my current coaster rankings and the things I like on coasters, I'm guessing if I rode all 4, my rankings would be :
1. Zadra
2. Iron Gwazi
3. Steel Vengeance
4. Hakugei
This video was awesome
Great job!!! Cedar Point always takes coasters to another level.
I have only ridden hakugei, but it is incredible and an easy no2 for me
Of the four I’ve only been on steel vengeance, and it’s my favorite roller coaster.
My ranking:
1. IGwaz
2. Hakugei
3. Zadra
4. SteVe
Classic gwazi glazer
You definitely should make this a series, I love it!
Thanks! This is definitely going to be a series, but I won't be making any more voiceover videos for the rest of 2020. More info in the pinned comment of my latest video.
@@EliteCoasters 9:14 I believe that inversion is called a cutback
Having only ridden Steel Vengeance, I cannot speak as to the rank of these four, I think his reasoning is sound, though may inspire some debate, he's close, hakugei 4, gwazi or Zadra 3 or 2,
Steel Vengeance #1
Steel Vengeance is the only ride to ever really get to me. I was shook.
I am not faint of heart or stomach
I do not get motion sickness nor am I afraid the ride isn't safe and also could kill me, fully aware and fearless on those points.
This coaster is a psychopath, it's violent.
I cannot fathom how it is so popular with the GP.
Enthusiasts, I get it, it's wicked, it's evil. It's so fun.
But it would scare me if i didn't have a stronger foundation as a human.
The ,,variant" of zero-g roll in Zadra is called step-up under flip
i guess he never ridden joker at six flags discovery kingdom (i havent ridden it aswell) maybe he does not know what the hell that is
i think id like zadra the most cuz it seems like it has the strongest forces and airtime, and it has the best pacing and variety of these 4 coasters too
Zadra and Iron Gwazi definitely have the most variety, and both coasters have outstanding pacing.
@@EliteCoasters yeah IG is #2 for me, very close to zadra but i think zadra is still better
I really hope iron gwazi is insane because as a Floridian I don’t think I’m ever gonna be able to travel to other states to ride coasters so this will be my only rmc.
I've ridden Iron Gwazi and Steel Vengeance, and I would say Steel Vengeance's best part is the first inversion, but Iron Gwazi had me laughing on the Trick-Track-Double-Up in the sense that it reminded me of Mystic Timber's Trick-Track-Camelback
Imagine having your own plane and riding all four over four days
Haven't been on any but steel vengeance....and it's fuckin amazing! Best coaster I've ever been on. Great video. Thanks!

zadra have 63,8 m
209,8 ft
and zadra have 3 g-zero and 1 spiral
I‘ve ridden 3 of these, only IGwazi is missing, and these are more different than I expected.
Zadra is the weakest imo, not because it’s bad or anything, because it‘s the best paced coaster I‘ve ridden, but it’s by far the least punchy RMC out of the 5 that I‘ve ridden.
Hakugei is very close to SteVe, because it has a ton of very strong ejector airtime, and also the best sideways airtime.
SteVe is a a little less powerful in the airtime department, but it’s relentless Lay-out, especially the second half, put it above Hakugei.
My favorite RMC is Untamed though, because that thing is by far the strongest airtime out of and coaster I‘ve ridden, and it’s also jam packed with airtime moments.
i haven’t been on any of these, but i would choose zadra over all
After your intro i immediately thought: "Warning: some viewers may be too lame to enjoy the following information"
Iron Gwazi's First Inversion Is Called The "DeathRoll".
Hakugei is my favourite personally
Iron gwazi is my favorite coasteri road the coaster yesterday
As somone who has ridden Iron Gwazi and Twisted timbers Gwazi's death roll feels NOTHING like Twisted's drop
Does the one going into Funspot Atlanta count? I have only ridden Steel Vengeance so far but I plan on going down to there as soon as it opens
I made this video way before we knew about ArieForce One but once it opens I guarantee it will be an elite RMC.
I’ve ridden iron gwazi and steel vengeance and for iron gwazi took a massive shit on steel vengeance lol. My number one coaster by far
1.iron gwazi
2.zadra
3.hakugei
4.SteVe
zadra is by farrrrr the best coaster in this list.
Very well done and EXACTLY CORRECT! KING STEVE REIGNS SUPREME👑👑👑
im planning trip to cedar point with my Family next year cuz i been to SFMM over 16 and i think is the best theme park in the world but i need to go to Cedar point to see if it really is #2 and SV is the only ride i really want to ride cuz everyone says its the best but for me twisted Colossus was avg if not below avg nothing has beaten my #1 X2 that coaster is still the greatest i ride i gotten on.
I also think steel vengence is the best hybrid coaster out there, and is my favorite roller coaster out of the 122 I have ridden.
iron gwazi hauls, like it literally feels illegal, i would say it’s better than steel vengeance
I’ve never ridden any of them, but if I were to rank these 4, this is how I’d rank them:
4. Zadra
This thing looks like it hauls through the layout. It has a lot of strong airtime moments, especially the ejector camelback next to the Zero-G Stall. I even noticed from a channel that checks the G-Force of coasters (CoasterStats) that the twisted airtime hill right before the final Zero-G Roll gives -1.45G. This has an amazing looking layout and I wish I could fly to Poland to ride this and Hyperion.
3. Iron Gwazi
I’d barely rank this higher than Zadra simply because it looks like a more powerful layout. Its inversions are snappy and still has good airtime moments, with some positive g moments and laterals too. And I think there’s gonna be some whippy strong ejector in the last airtime moment in the back row.
2. Steel Vengeance (surprise surprise)
When people mention airtime, this might be one of the first to be mentioned, or any RMC for that matter. It looks to have insane airtime, and the first 2 massive hills look like they have one of the craziest sustained ejector moments. And the second half has more quick pops of airtime. And although sustained is better than quick pops, the way it doesn’t stop giving these pops makes it a look a lot more out of control. I can’t wait for the day I go to Cedar Point to ride Steel Vengeance.
1. Hakugei
First of all, this has one of the most eye-catching color schemes. The reason why I slightly prefer this over Steel Vengeance is because it looks like it hauls through the track and has insane pacing. It has 20+ airtime moments and they all look much more sustained than Steel Vengeance. Even the least sustained ejector moments on the ride (excluding pre-lift) look like they last a more than half a second, maybe 0.75 or 1 second each? But I won’t say too much. Let’s just say I wish I could fly to Japan, get to Nagashima Spa Land and marathon Hakugei.
Nonetheless, all these rides look amazing, all worthy of top 10 or even top 7. Among RMCs, these 4 belong in the S-tier, the highest tier of rides I want to ride.
Tbh, all 4 are interchangeable. I've only ridden SteVe, but if I get to riding all 4, who knows what the list would look like.
Since I haven't ridden Hakugei I can't rank it but here is my ranking on RMC coasters I've ridden:
5: Untamed, it's an awesome ride but it's repetitive ride and it's layout is a bit weak? It's airtime is painful in the second half, and if the airtime wasn't painful than it was weak. Inversions on it are fun tho
4: Wildfire, it could be higher but it haves 2 huge mistakes. 1) it's pretty rough on an RMC but yeah it's a woodie and 2) this coaster has a Zadra/Gwazi layout style but it's pacing is not that good like the other two coasters and it slows down at the end. But I wasn't sure if would choose this over Untamed so it's something like tie between these two rides and are both about anything different
3) SteVe, second half is overrated and repetitive, the airtime on it is painful in the second half and most of these inversions are mid. These first two camelbacks are INSANE
2) Igwazi it haves everything right, just the finale and the stall are wrong
1) Zadra, it does everything how I wanted
@@extrakubik4123the stall on iron gwazi is weird. It’s amazing on the right and good on the left
Where did you get the info about drop height of Hakugei? Cause it doesnt feel nor seem like it is only 129feet.
It's not listed on rcdb, but I looked up on google: "hakugei nagashima spaland drop" and the first thing that popped up was 129 feet. I couldn't find any sources that said otherwise.
@@EliteCoasters Anyway fun great video! Enjoyed the detailed element-by-element analysis. Out of 3 coasters now operating only one I rode is Hakugei and it was AWESOME. Zadra, IronGwazi and SteVe are high in my bucketlist and hope I could ride them one day.
@@EliteCoasters I’m seeing multiple sources of 180 feet (55 meters)
I've ridden all 4 (and 14 more RMCs) and Zadra wins short before Hakugei, because of pacing and overall ride feeling. SV just destroys you in the end and IG ending ist just senseless and nonsense. Just the first three elements rock, the rest is just filler. -- Question: Did you, @elitecoasters, rode all four coasters? So, why you make such a video?
It has less duration however I think once you ride Iron Gwazi, you’ll change your order.
Now that Gwazi is open I think there is a good chance
Wicked Cyclone’s stall banks past 180 degrees, fun fact.
Was at untamed a few weeks agoo, man that thing hauls ass for a not very tall coaster, i think the finale might even be better than steek vengence, if not very simular in scaryness
iron gwazi actually has 3 inversions because the overbank after the death roll is over 135 degrees.
If only Texas Giant was like this...
4:14 we just not gonna talk about that transition??
Zadra is the closest from where I live with 2100 kilometers 😭
In my opinion, Iron guazi is better than steel vengeance. I have ridden both and Iron guazi clears Steel vengeance by a good margin.
I’ve also ridden both and SteVe clears Gwazi by a solid margin… about 1600 feet to be clear lol…. They’re 3&4 on my top ten list
Despite it's shorter duration, Iron Gwazi hauls ass. I would like to ride the other three, but i will say they don't look like as fast paced, which may be a good thing or not, just depends on preferances
I don’t know but I think I heard that iron gwazis over bank is a inversion.
I think the park is listing it as an inversion, but I dont think that the banking is over 135 degrees. RCDB does not list it as an inversion so that's what I went with.
I have ridden steal vengeance and Iron Guazzi, personally I think iron Guazzi is the better roller coaster, but I rode steel vengeance while there was a trim brake and rode Irongazzi on a hot summer day. Iron Guazzis first drop is better and just feels faster in my opinion.
Guazzi? Lmao
7:03 is it banked to 43 degrees
Steel vengeance best hybrid no complaints hood video
Of all these Iron Gwazi is a 4 in my opinion due to a lack of airtime, still Iron Gwazi is a great ride.
Honestly, if I ride all of these, the list would probably be in a TOTALLY different order. All of these are interchangeable, depending on what you like in coasters. Steel Vengeance has both quality and quantity of airtime, but Iron Gwazi has more of a variety of forces. But theres no denying that all 4 of these rides are insane.
Lack of airtime? Ride has the highest quality ejector airtime of any coaster in the world including steel vengeance.
You were way wrong😭
wrong. iron gwazi has insane ejector & laterals through out the layout. whipy outer bank that throws you out your seat, strong death roll, INSANE wave turn i was shocked how strong it ejects you & the laterals on the double down are crazy. so yeah iron gwazi isn’t a lack of airtime it’s a airtime MACHINE!
dude are you kidding me, iron gwazi has some of the most ridiculous ejector airtime on a coaster, and it is not lacking, there is quite a bit of it, and that wave turn is ridiculous
I rode Steel Vengeance and Zadra. And Zadra is waaay better imo. Zadra is a massive beast wich never slows down. Maybe I just had a bad day at CP with the midcourse brake.
You probably did, when SteVe's midcourse is off, the second half has some of the best and most intense pacing out there
Zadra and IG are the best
I just subscribed to help you
Now he can feed his family; does your charity know no bounds?
Zadra's Drop Is 205.3 Ft.
Thanks!
NO XDD
Actually it's 204.136 Ft.
Zadra+gwazi>SteVe
Zadra has a 204 ft drop
I was on Zadra in Energylandia and they say Zadra’s drop is 66 metres
It's height is 63 so it can't be 66 meters drop
Done Zadra and SV. Zadra is the worst RMC I have done, fun and good pacing but really lacks the relentlessness that most of the other RMC's have even with the likes of TT and Untamed
I’ve only done SV. Amazing
The steel vengeance is the best, but I don’t think it’s worth one hour of a line😢😢😢😢😢
zadras drop is 205 feet
zadra drop is 204 feet
Well of course steel vengeance is first, it's the only one you've ridden lmao. Maybe it's time to stop making lists and get out to ride coasters
1.SteVe
2.Zadra
3.Hakugei
4.Iron Gwazi
Zadra looks to be easily the best of all of them. That transition after the stall looks insane and all the elements look 10/10 quality and it flies through its layout. Ive ridden Steel Vengeance and most of the elements were good but not great and that 6 airtime moment finale was absolute dogshit. It was so forced and i felt more pain than airtime. A lot of the elements on SV are forced while on Zadra and Hakugei they are fluid and flow much smoother. I think CP just tried to cram a shitload of elements into the ride even if that meant sacrificing quality for quanity. Im not saying SV is bad bc its still my #6 coaster ive ridden but it has some flaws that Zadra and probably Hakugei dont
I see what you mean. I enjoy the mix of the more drawn out first half with more sustained airtime and the second half where it throws you around a lot
Yeah. I would have preferred if steel vengeance’s ending was just one or two camelbacks like the first one on storm chaser, that would really end the ride with a bang. But CP just had to get that record.
@@Hehe-nt4oe It left a bad taste in my mouth. It barely beats out a ride like Twisted Timbers imo and even that ride i found to be overrated lol

1. Vengeance
2. Zadra
3. Gwazi
4. Hakigei
Me being the weirdo who thinks Iron Rattler is the best RMC
gwazi is over rated in my opieon still oneof the beast but has some flaws
I like iron gwazi better
i’ve ridden and steel vengeance the airtime is very weak and it not very sustained so in my mind sv is prolly the worst out of the 4. but i’d imagine lightning god would be better than all of em
I've also ridden steel Vengeance and yeah the airtime isnt like magnum triangle hill airtime but I would still consider it ejector even if it barely makes it into that category, and it's still really sustained, at least the first half all the way up to the double up and twisted hill are sustained moments. I do agree that lightning rod could beat steel vengeance, but I'll find out when I ride that.
I hate how SteVe is overrated. Zadra and Igwazi are both better
I am not trying to be mean but this is the most basic opinion.
I know lol
cuz it is the most true one
