  • Sharing my experience of using Legion Go. I have had it for over 2 months now, and during this time I have used it in different places and in different conditions. I've used it as a PC replacement and connected an external video card to it. Here are my thoughts.

    I almost bought the Go, but then realized that I wanted a handheld console like experience without the hassle. So, I got the Deck Oled and now can play my Steam, PSP and Epic Games on it, plus Remote Play for my PS5 and have my library easily accessible in one spot. I am having fun with Just Cause 3 now and surprised how flawlessly it runs at High graphics with 45fps 90hz, I don't regret taking this over the Go (plus the battery life on Oled is amazing).

      Which settings?

    • @lammyjammer6670
      @lammyjammer6670 Před 2 měsíci +6

      @@trysometech52You can set the VRAM to Auto in the BIOS and you'll get most of the RAM while on the desktop instead of having a fixed allocation on the iGPU. The OS then manages the iGPU RAM allocation as needed during gameplay.
      That's probably the best setup for you with an eGPU since you'll have almost the full 16GB at your disposal as system RAM.

    • @trysometech52
      @trysometech52  Před 2 měsíci +1

      I believe the default is auto, which is 4gb (as I recall). And it's not great if you have to go into BIOS every time, right? Anyway, now I see that I need 32gb minimum

    • @lammyjammer6670
      @lammyjammer6670 Před 2 měsíci +4

      @@trysometech52 No. Auto allocates 250mb while out of games. When you run a game, Windows negotiates how much VRAM the game is going to need and decide how much to allocate.
      Auto is also not the default option because some games hate it and won't work with it on unless you use any disable VRAM check flags to open them with.

    • @trysometech52
      @trysometech52  Před 2 měsíci +3

    Hi, great video. I'm trying to figure out the optimal eGPU setup with the Legion Go, since 4090 is overkill. What do you think is the sweet spot?

    • @trysometech52
      @trysometech52  Před 2 měsíci

    Might want to mention the "not-seamless" experience when going from iGPU to eGPU while the game is running. For example, if you're playing Divinity on the go, then get home and hook up to eGPU, a restart of the game is required for applications to detect the eGPU. Some games like Yakuza 6 only have checkpoint saves and will not be ideal with this hybrid docking setup.

    Great video but some of the stuff you were talking about like everyday apps, you can go in the bios and configure how much ram the gpu uses. As for editing videos and creating content like music, set a custom tdp or use the performance with os performance set to balanced. You may also want to adjust the fan curve as well. Havent had any issues

    • @trysometech52
      @trysometech52  Před 2 měsíci

      Yes, of course I tried the performance mode for video editing, and I could change the RAM settings in the BIOS, but it would be odd to change the settings every time you changed tasks. Also, my desktop PC uses about 20-25GB of RAM when editing 4K video, so that would be almost pointless. Still, it's not what a handheld should do, but I had to give it a try :D
      Glad you liked the video thought :)

    If you don't mind to play game in lower settings, legion go is fine. Built in Gpu even struggle to run 900p. Reduce resolution from native resolution is not same as lower native resolution. That why the win always with steamdeck. Note:I don't own steam deck but rog ally. Even rog ally cause pain to my wrist

      If it's disabled by default, then Lenovo engineers did it for some reason and turning it on may not be the best idea (probably temps are too high and fast degradation of the battery). If it doesn't have a good reason, then disabling fast charge by default sounds even sillier.
      I usually don't think about such questions when buying modern devices, because it always works by default. Does that make sense to you?
