For example, I've watched Empire Strikes Back with friends who had never seen it before and they were watching it literally in expectation of the famous line. Both Fight Club and 6th Sense were huge films but neither had anything like the cultural impact of Star Wars and so most people will watch those films today for the 1st time and the twists will still catch them by surprise.

The Yoda meeting is a throwback to the "stranger on the road" trope from Samurai films. The master would test the student on the student's journey to meet the master, while the student didn't know his real identity. It was usually some test of character, to see if the student was worthy of the power they would obtain, via knowledge of the sword.

Working HR for the empire must have been absolutely bonkers.

"AGAIN? That's the third time this month! Don't tell me, Vader had another hissy fit?"
"Ahem... LORD Vader WAS displeased with the actions of Admiral -"
"- Of course he was. It's getting harder, you know. People don't want to work in a job where the boss randomly chokes you to death for screwing up. Other places have probation, support services, mediation... we have a CEO who murders people at the office Christmas party because they served him the wrong punch. His temper is a bigger cause of staff turnover than the rebellion! We've got positions we can't fill, a workforce on the brink of a collective mental health crisis, and when we asked the emperor for more resources, he just bought a load of motivational cat posters!"
      "Oooh, those sound cute!"
"One of them is a kitten dressed as Vader."
"...I can see why that would be a problem. It sounds absolutely adorable though"
"Oh, it is, but the cuteness is sort of lost in the reminder that your manager might strangle you with magic".
      "Yeah... yeah I see that."
"We could probably fix all of this if we just sent Vader to anger management training"
"Do YOU want to suggest that to him?"

      "Oooh, Ooh, you should-"

I know lol who would sign up to be a soldier. They arent clones i assume. The generals & regular staff are people. They all busted loose when the emperor & vader was dying. Luke was dragging his large body while every officer & trooper was booking it off the death star. Luke was the man. He was really showed vader id rather in that moment die than take ur hand. Luke literally chose death. Same in rotj he again flung his saber at the emperor saying id rather not. Lol. The e😂mperorors promise of power was " no thanks" of course when vader got up luke begged for help b/c he was being electrocuted over & over. Luke so much stronger than anakin ever was. I know he lost his mom not like luke had parents. His uncle worked his butt on a sand planet & refused to let him leave their farm ever ! If anything leaving may have avoided the eventual run in w/ obi wan who was waiting for luke thus him living there watching him. Luke way got the short end. Leia was raised as a princess power money pampered while luke lived where his crazy father hated. Worked in a boting desert while ben & yoda watched him & waited for this farm boy to save the planet!!! Also lying to him every step of the way.

The Yoda reveal is so great, and maybe it can give you an understanding to what Jedi should be. Merely testing his patience, willingness to listen to all forms of life, and life in the moment are some traits a Jedi is meant to have.

My brother saw it first in the family and when he came back from the theater, he said, "It should have been called The Empire Kicks Ass." And you reacted to absolutely everything just like we all did in 1980.

Love your reaction! As others have said as well, to see someone truly surprised by Darth Vader's reveal is a real treat.
In the fight between Vader and Luke, you'll notice that Luke is using his light saber two-handed, and really giving it his all, and Vader is using his with just one hand and barely even trying, this is a nod to just how much more powerful Vader was.
The whole character of Yoda is fascinating. When you think of "the master teacher of all the Jedi" you assume it'd be some big strong buff athletic person, but then here's this tiny frail old creature, which really drives the point home that what makes you powerful is what's on the inside.
The scene in the cave where Luke fights a fake Vader and cuts off his head to see his own face is highly symbolic, it's a bit of a foreshadowing that Luke is Vader's son, but also there is the idea presented that "you first have to conquer the evil within yourself before you can confront evil in the world".
And Vader definitely goes through admirals like there's no tomorrow, their human resources department is severely lacking, lol.
Don't worry about your questions, most of them will be answered in the next one!
    Cheers

Great reaction you two. How could neither of you not know about Vadar being Luke's father? Out of all the reaction channels I have watched reacting to Star Wars, and there has been dozens and dozens of them, only two didn't know about that. The rest, even though they haven't seen the movies before, still knew because it is all over the place. It is sooooo special to see thoughs who had no idea that was coming. You two didn't disappoint. Let me tell you about my "I am your father," story. This was one of the best kept secrets in movie history. James Earl Jones, Vadar's voice, didn't even know about it until he read it while they were recording for the movie. He was so surprised, that right after he read that line, he said the same exact thing everybody on the planet said when they found out, "WHATTTT?" Then he said, "is this true?" Of course they had to rerecord it. Even Mark Hamil, Luke, while filming the scene was so surprised said the same thing. They had to reshoot it. Ok my story. I was at the second showing on the first day. Nobody had any idea what was going to happen. There are about 300 - 350 crammed in this theater. We all waited 3 long years for this and the excitement level in the theater was sky high. Like you guys were, still shocked at Vadar cutting Luke's hand off, when it hit. When Vadar said one of the most famous lines in movie history, the whole 300 - 350 people in the theater, had the same reaction at the same split second and like one big voice, everybody yelled, "WHATTT?" It was very clear. We were all looking at each other with our mouths wide open, our eyes as big as oranges in complete shock. Then it happened again. Just as Luke yells, "Nooooo," so did everyone in the theater, again as if one big voice. Clear as a bell, "NOOOOOOO," It was an amazing experience. Nothing like that has every happened since. 300 - 350 different people all having the same reaction at the same second and saying the exact same thing at the same time. Usually when a crowd yells the same thing, it's not really that clear. But both times, "What" and "Nooooo" were as clear as if just one big voice yelled it. I felted I was very lucky to be some of the few who got to experience that while it happened. The news got out very quickly after that. While walking out the theater and by the people standing in line for the next showing, This idiot walking behind us said to who ever he was with, "I can't believe that Vadar is Luke's father." Some of the people standing in line heard what he said and were all like, "What did he say? Vadar is Luke's father." Then others inline hearing that all started saying it and that is how fast the secret was out of the bag. I turned and looked at the guy who didn't realize what he did. What a moron he was. Anyway it was all over the news that night so it didn't matter. Most people knew about that before they even seen the movie. That is why I feel so lucky. Considering the number of people who have seen Episode IV, probably hundreds of millions, there were probably only about 1/2 million or so who had no idea it was coming. Appears you two are a part of that exclusive club now which is even more incredible considering pretty much everybody who has seen it or not seen it knew about it. It was a lot of fun seeing both of you, eyes all big, mouths open and such disbelieve on your faces. That scene is soooo much fun to watch when seeing someone who has no idea it's coming. Also seeing you two after it was over doing what we all did. Start asking questions, coming up with theories, love it. Now think about how you were feeling and all those questions. Now you two can get answers and find out if your theories are correct right now. Back then, we all had to wait a n o t h e r 3 v e r y l o n g y e a r s to get answers and see if our theories were correct. Oh not all people or beings in this galaxy are force sensitive. The majority are not. Only a few are born force sensitive. Some are more than others. Obviously Vadar is, the emperor and Luke. Luke just doesn't know how to use it yet. The emperor can see how power Luke can become. Like himself and Yoda. He just has to learn how to use it. Your questions about who the emperor is and how did Vadar go over to the dark side will all be answered in the prequel trilogies, episodes I, II and III. There are many that feel this one, Episode V, was the best of all of them. For me, I love VI, your next one, the best. It is just perfect, you will see. Well my apologies for my little book here. I hope you will find it interesting enough to make it all the way through. Thanks for letting the rest of us be a part of your amazing journey. Remember it has just begun. Don't forget if you have any questions about any of this, please ask me and I will do my best to answer them without ruining anything you haven't seen yet. Things you have already seen, I can give you as much as I know about things. Not as much as some but enough to most likely answer your questions. Take care you two and stay safe.

Not sure how this comment doesn't have more likes. It's a lot to read but it had me on the edge of my seat with the Theater eruption scenario. I am old enough to of seen the OG trilogy in the theaters at a very young age but like BJ and Asia I wasn't really into the "Space" thing back then. Understanding this trilogy later made me realize how compelling it truly was and it just made me want to watch more. The only comparison I can think of in my life time that had a similar reaction, yet not on the scale of over 300 coming from one theater, would have to be :::::: SPOILERS IF YOU HAVEN'T SEEN MARVELS INFINITY WAR ::::: Marvels Infinity War when Thor burst on the scene in Wakanda to take another shot at Thanos. The whole theater erupted in the loudest cheer when things started to turn around. I went on to see the eruptions from all over the world about that scene here on youtube and it had the same reaction everywhere. I can only imagine if we had internet back then what this would of looked like. If they keep up with the franchise I may just have to patreon that ish lol.

@@genghiskhan5685 So cool. Love hearing about similar experiences. Things like that we will remember forever. I watched all the Avenger movies online so I didn't get that in the theaters. I do know what scene your talking about and had the same reaction just had it by myself. So no spoilers I have seen it. Yeah sorry for the book. Happens to me a lot because I can type pretty fast. When I am typing about something I love, I tend to go on and on before I know it, I get what you saw and read. I wasn't a space fan either. In fact, I didn't even want to see the first one. My brother dragged me to the theater saying I will love it. Well he certainly knew me back then. Star Wars has a habit of turning non space people into space people. Seeing Asia's and BJ's reaction to the first two movies has been fun. The fact that they didn't know about "I am your father." thing, was really great. There eyes get so big and wide open. Just like my did back in the day seeing these movies for the first time. Anyway it is fun to hear from another about their theater experiences.

@@robmaeder330 Heyyy good to meet another very lucky person. There isn't many of us who can say that. I haven't talked to one like us in about 20 years. I feel even more lucky because those who I have talked to said people in the theater pretty much reacted in a similar way, it wasn't at the exact same second. It was so amazing cause the 300+ people said "What" at the same exact second. It was so clear. Then like I said, it happened again with, "noooooo." It didn't sound like a bunch of voices but one very big one. Always love hearing from other Star Wars fans, especially the ones like yourself who got to experience that in the theater.

It's like 99.9 % of people have heard the line about Vader being Luke's father even if they know nothing else about Star Wars, so it's a real treat for all of us to see someone who doesn't know that going into the movie.

A game changer in special effects in general. There were genius special effects before, but Star Wars changed the entire industry in that regard like none before.
And I don't think we will see a change like that again. Sure, special effects will get better, but a game changer like Star Wars? I could be wrong, but I don't think anything like this will come again.

    Fun facts:
Chewie actually had lines. The actor in the suit had whole conversations with Han, but Lucas later decided to give Chewie a kind of animal howl instead of an articulating voice. But if you look for behind-the-scenes footage, you'll find some pre-ADR stuff featuring Chewie where you can hear what he's saying. It's quite funny; turns out Chewie is a pretty sarcastic guy.
Yoda's face is based on Albert Einstein. That's why he has those wisps of fluffy white hair and mustache.
When Leia tells Han, "I love you," the script had him replying "I love you, too." Harrison Ford refused to say that because _Han_ would never say it. He came up with a more Han reply, and it was obviously the right one.

"Only what you take with you" is such a bar, its legit one of my favorite lines in star wars. Because one of the trials a jedi must face before becoming a jedi is called the Mirror. Luke went into that cave to face himself.

Mark Hamil (Luke) had a major auto accident before this movie which is why his face looks different. You san see a few glimpses of his face at the start, but the attack by the ice creature early was an in-story attempt to explain why he looks different from then on.

I love it when people try to rationalize the Vader twist. That is exactly what six year old me did the first time I saw this. I literally turned to my father and said "He's lying, right? He's got to be lying?" In a kind of panicky looking for reassurance child voice. It was literally the moment that I grew up and starting questioning my preconceptions of good and evil
