I started running at age 53. At 52 I lost over 70 pounds, by walking, intermittent fasting and yoga. A year later I started running, now 170 pounds instead of 242.
Now at 55, tomorrow I'm going to run the Reville Peak Ranch 60k, race 4 of 4 in the Capt'n Karl's Trail Series, a 60k every 3 weeks for 3 months. I've completed the other 3, now onto the last and final.
It is never too late to start something new and take your fitness in a new direction. Never too late. Never give up. Do not go gentle into that good night. Rage, rage against the dying of the light.
Epic
Agree. But 52 is not old.
I started powerlifting at age 62 and am doing my first competition in November at age 64. New challenges!
It’s funny but weightlifting gave me the confidence to tackle running. I’m not a good runner. In fact I hated it growing up. But seeing what my body can do is encouraging. I’m not trying to win any races but seeing my distance go up & my endurance last longer, this is a big win for me!
For me, one of the reasons I lift heavy is so I can drive better, and be able to handle all the constant intense turns and transitions on the track. I read some strongmen took up their training to up their racing game as well!
@@CL2K you had me in the first half ngl !
@@narahitesh1341 What did you read my comment as?
Also, professional racing is a practical reason to lose weight and optimize body composition to be very lean, that way one can withstand higher acceleration.
I’m 30 and recently ran my fastest mile ever! There are so many pro women who are setting PRs and records post partum right now, it’s really inspiring!
Many people including pros run their fastest marathons in their 30s. Food for thought!
So this channel is now Megsprints? :)
I love it! 🤣
@@Megsquats Happy Birthday Megsprints 🏃🏼♀️
Hahaha Good catch!
Megmoves would be more encapsulating
Meg jogs
Yeah, you can definitely do it! Great way to push yourself. Evolving and trying new things is NOT comfortable, but so worth it. You're very courageous and I have enjoyed seeing your audience grow over this past year. You're awesome Meg!
I'm in the Air Force and I sincerely appreciate you embarking on this journey. I'm currently hosting a cardio challenge while I'm deployed and it's amazing to see how people are pushing themselves. I've also learned to love running again and I love your perspective on celebrating the courage it requires to conquer their fears.
Happy Birthday Meg! I started weight training when I came across your videos during an abusive relationship I was in. I need something to pull me out of the tar pit I felt I was in.
You inspired me so much. I always saw myself as a tough girl but I really wanted to bring that to the plate and prove it.
Im still working on my lifting. As many people, I’ve had ups and downs but never gave up.
I keep looking at your videos and I can relate to this one definitely.
Thank you for existing! You’re a big blue star who radiates this earth. And we’re all so happy you’re here. Thank you really for everything.
Now,I’m actually in a relationship with someone I had a crush on in middle school. They love me for who I am and have helped me with my growth. Interestingly enough, they now have an education in fitness as well. I’ve never been so happy to be respected and appreciated as the strong woman that I am :)
Thanks again,with love

Feminine and strong. Been a fan for years and years to come and happy birthday, my 50th is this sunday
Running is life. If your knees and back and feet etc etc can cope with it. Running is everything you need. Its air, love, energy, spirituality. You will understand when you are not able to anymore
I've become a devoted Walker over the past two years! I walk almost everyday for an hour up and down a steep hill. My walks are a blessing for my mental health!
Running is such a great high and you can incorporate your little one in too! When my son was a toddler, I would use it to get him to nap when fussy. During the beginning of the pandemic I would run 2 miles out of our urban area to somewhere with less traffic where we could blow bubbles. I would compete against my own times, he would sing along the way and describe things. Such great memories! I just took him again last week (yes, my tiny four year old still fits!) and he loved it! He keeps asking me to run again 😆
Wait until you’re 43 and In the best shape of your life. It’s amazing
I can’t even wait. I turned 35 this year and am approaching the best shape of my life, with only a year of strength training under my belt. 8 more years of this? Yessss!! I’m excited to keep progressing.
Way to go!
I'm 36 and I just started trying to run. I'm not the fastest, I think comfortably I do 12 minute miles. I saw a video where a runner gave advice. They said, don't worry about how fast you can go in the beginning. Focus on how long you can go without stopping. That's what I've been doing. Now that I can go at least 3 miles without stopping, I'm trying to work on how fast I can go with out getting winded. I did a 11 minute mile. I know its not fast but its progress! I tried running after listening to the audio book by David Groggins, "Can't hurt me". I've noticed that I look forward to running. It's great for my mental health.
Keep at it! 10 minutes mile in your sights! Keep setting new goals 💪🏼
@@mullerszable Thank you! Slowly but surely! 🏃♀🏃♀🏃♀
This is hitting so hard! I’m 41 with a 4 and 9 year old. Been on Stronger by the Day App for 1 year. Your programming is so solid and with that foundation, i’m the strongest I’ve ever been. Thank you for the inspiration as I’ve been ready to level up but not sure how. Hitting those running trails sounds like just what I need. Thank you for quality programming and inspiration all along the way.💕
Happy birthday Meg! ❤️ A little less than a year ago I came across your channel and binged watched your messages about performance based goals vs physique based goals and now I’m the strongest I’ve ever been with so much room to get stronger! You changed my life thank you ❤️❤️❤️
Thank you so much!! This makes me so happy to hear. ❤️
23 yrs and 8 months postpartum, wow how I related to this video. Not as strong as I was before I had my baby, but definitely have reached new heights in all aspects of my training, have been pushing myself like never before and how true it is that something happens up there every time. Loved this video, have been thinking about running again, I think you just inspired me too.
Happy solar return 🎉🎉 thanks for baring your soul and inspiring so many others in the process 🙌
Those are excellent reasons. I feel inspired by that. Thank you for sharing.
Happy birthday!! U r such an inspiration! I love your videos!! 🥰 I'm 29 and i feel so good while running. Lots of love from Uruguay and thank u for being u!! 🖤🖤🖤

Really love this video. Happy bday. Really love the cinematic quality and the visual and the sound and the message. It is really cool.
I was watching another CZcams video about study tips and was also thinking a lot about my life because I turn 27 in august 14, felt like I let one year of my life past by, your video came up ! Made me think about everything I am accomplishing and I also started to run again !!! You are why I’m continuing to run as well !!!!

Haha, just one year 😅
Haven't watched a video in awhile. Love the set up with you walking and talking. Just having a real convo. I just recently started running again myself. I look back at my younger self and think how did I run 4 miles a day on top of 2 jobs. The joys of being young lol. Luv the video
Welcome back! 🏃♀️
Happy birthday Meg 🎉🎂! Thank you for this reminder! Leo season!
Thank you for the inspiration! I'm working hard to train for my first ever 5k and I'm so excited but nervous too. I'm slowly working up my distance but I have quite a way to go. I'm only 28 but I've had 3 kids and now that I'm getting back into working out, I already have heard, "you know you aren't a spring chicken anymore," and I want to tell them, "I will be a spring chicken till the day I die!" 😆 Lol I always tell people you're only as old as you act (I mostly tell my 33 year old husband that 😜) and I try to live by that. One of the reasons I workout is because I don't want my age to slow me down; I want to always be able to play with my kids, rough house with them, and if I ever have grandkids, same thing! My parents can't really play with their grandkids because they don't prioritize their health. I don't want that to happen to me. So I use that as one of my motivators to keep me going.
I come to your videos for, information, inspiration, and encouragement and you never disappoint! ❤️
I’m going back to running too Meg! My hubby and I signed up for a half marathon in January. We’re training now!
Happy birthday to you! Thanks for always being such an inspiration to me, and I’m sure so many others ❤️
I happened to take up running again about the time you did, so it’s been great seeing someone I look up to doing the same thing. Also just started Stronger by the Day 🖤 you will be who I turn to whenever I am pregnant/postpartum also 😊
(Sometime try barefoot/minimalist running 😉)
You look fabulous. I'm inspired.Happy Birthday 🎂 Aug 10 my baby turned 36 he also passed away at age 32 l won't ever give up on my journey. 58 fighting for my life.Be Blessed...
Happy birthday! You’re such an inspiration 💓
Happy birthday Meg, u inspire me everyday!!
Happy birthday, Meg!! Thank you for being an inspiration for this old lady (come Dec, will be 20 years older than you!) I started my "fitness journey" 10 years ago by running, and I only got into the 12:00 min/mile range, never quite breaking fully into the 11 min/mi range. I stopped for a while due to arthritis and a general lack of enthusiasm, but kinda wanting to get back to it, just to do it again for myself.
Why are you running when you have arthritis? Are you trying to have no cartilage?
Helen Cherry age is a number! Don’t put yourself in that category. I am 48 and I work out with strength training and the stair master 5 days a week. Just saying! I am more fit than I have ever been.
I just started learning to run! I'm so here for this 😁 you inspire me, thank you
I love this....I've been wanting to be better at running...cardio in general...but I just haven't been pushing myself...thank you Meg for the inspiration!
Great message!
You're always an inspiration, Meg! Happy birthday from this og sub 🥳🏋️♀️
The limits running can take our minds to is endless the high is ingredible when you achieve it! My daughter is going to be 5 this fall, I was 33 when I had her and I am stronger now than I ever could have imagined I would be! Keep going, dream big, laugh hard, enjoy all the moments!
Hi Meg!!!!!! Running is not easy at first!!!! I used to run 4-7 miles in a day! It was a way to help with my mental health issues… I went as far as incline running up and down hills until I twisted my ankle and it put me into deep depression. I loved running and I have gained so much weight because I cannot run like i used to and I also cannot weight lift too heavy when I work out my legs… so it’s very overwhelming…… I love your videos and I have indeed used your tips on how to weight lift… you’re so encouraging and we need ppl like you to get us back to our fitness goals
As someone who twisted her ankle six months ago (torn ligament) and is still having pain/weakness and wearing a compression brace, I feel you. I cried for a week when I got hurt, and my mental health tanked. I'm going to start swimming and see if that's something that won't irritate it. Best of luck to you on your healing journey.
@@malloryr4883 I’m so sorry that happened to you, one of the worst things that can happen to anyone.. I too cried allot and I was not able to get out of bed… it took a long time to start walking normal but I’m a welder and I wear heavy steel toe boots so the pain comes back. Thank you for the support and I hope that you find a stable workout that suits you!!! 🫶🏻🫶🏻🫶🏻
Twisted my ankle twice running and that was it. I switched to barefoot shoes even for running and no more injuries. Slow process to gain strength in foot muscles, ligaments, etc but once you do you're free. Natural gait comes back, flexibility and zero drop prevent sprains.
@@alwachart I did the same. Minimal footwear is the way to go, you become so much stronger.
you need to check out the channel called knees over toes guy. please. thank me later.
Just wanted to say I'm loving your content lately, you inspire me thanks for all you do!
I appreciate that!
I was also a powerlifter, not professional or competitive … tore my bicep in January 2022 and now I still lift and powerlift but I now run as well. I lift 3 days a week and run 3 days a week… I also do peloton on the days I lift… mostly 20 min … loving this new journey. I was in the Army and now Im in the Air Force Reserves but this new running journey has nothing to do with that. Nice to see you going on this journey as well
Happy birthday 🎁🎊🎂 another year of life and abundance !
Welcome to the runner's club for prior power lifters! I wish you the best in your journey and happy birthday, fellow Leo. ♌️ My birthday is next week and I feel you on so many levels in this video with being a woman in her 30s.
I would love a pod cast if you can fit it in to your schedule……max started podcasting…….it’s awesome, I don’t always have time for a full video with a 2 year old but pod casts are awesome in the car !!
I was just on Maxx's podcast!
Meg, thank you for inspiring me to deadlift and squat 🤗🤗🤗 Happy birthday!!!
Running is hard on the joints. I’ve been running since I was young. I’m now 44. My fastest time was in the marines when in clocked 6 min Mile and 18ish min 3 mile run. In my late thirties, while doing CrossFit, I ran a 7 min mile. There are better sports for endurance/cardio etc, like swimming and biking. If you plan on running, I would look into becoming a Chi runner. It got rid of my plantar fasciitis and reduced the swelling in my knees.
It’s really not all that hard on joints. Running is by the best form of cardio, certainly significantly better than swimming and cycling. Please stop spreading this bs
@SuperAloeFresh It's his free opinion and we should respect it. I was a runner life time myself and doing only running made me badly pass by very great other sports that provide best results in term of strenght and flexibility and therefore best quality life. This makes me little by little rebuild balances and get rid of persisting injuries. You can still run but just open your eyes on other disiplines to avoid mistakes and probably irriversible damages.
Swimming is 100x better for the joints then running.....
@@Yang-se6pb swimmers lack the bone density that runners have in spades. Running mimics real world scenarios far better than swimming. Biking is good but it's also lacks bone density and after several MTB crashes my surgeon said he sees far more people injured on bikes than from running. If you live long enough eventually everything will wear out but most knee injuries are from the lack of strength around the knee from being sedentary and being overweight. If someone wanted to improve the aerobic fitness I would recommend the concept 2 rower, zero impact, low injury risk, and builds more muscle than swimming, biking and more upper body strength than running.
@@User_ML907 no we shouldn’t because he’s spreading false information. That shouldn’t be tolerated on her e just like it shouldn’t be tolerated in the real world
I started your conditioning 3 weeks ago. I am loving it. It’s challenging but not too overwhelming on top of weight training
loved this. always appreciate your insight and perspective, mom!
I started as a runner in 5th grade. Picked up strength finally last year. Now balancing both. Highly recommend using Coach Bennett for inspiration and company on runs. Really helps with the mental balance of it all.
Happy Birthday,🎂 Meg!
You've summed up my feelings about powerlifting perfectly. I mean I still find it fun to train strength but it's not fun to only have that one goal so I started swimming and running as well.
This is a really super amazing 5 minute video. Thank you, Meg
Highly motivating. Thank you ❤️
I haven't had a baby but I did spend all last year in physical therapy and am getting back into fitness and running and it's been scary and trying to be careful. I'm doing my first half marathon in February on my 30th birthday weekend so I'm enjoying this running series while I also work on mine 😍
Video quality to the MAX here. Loving the content y’all, keep it coming!
Appreciate it!!
Omg! My dream is to run a 1/2 marathon. I am a lover of the gym. But have always loved running. I have run a Ragnar in 2016 and enjoyed it so much! Miss Meg you are n inspiration to so many. Thank you, thank you💕.
33 now, first I started lifting which is life but then I started running and even though I couldn't even run 100m without getting tired I kept going, within like 2 weeks I was addicted. Fast forward a couple months and I was already going on 6 to 9 mile runs almost daily. I have since forced myself to lower my running slightly just so I can devote more time to lifting. I'm in the best shape of my life by far at 33 and would massacre the teenage or 20 year old me. Everyone thinks when you hit 30 that everything goes downhill. Not for me, I plan to get better and better as I get older. I found you through max and I love seeing people our age who still believe in all this stuff because let's be honest if you go out in public most people our age or older have kinda fallen off the wagon. Keep inspiring people. Never too old, never too out of shape to just get out there and try
Do you have a series explaining how you got started, how you programmed the running alongside strength training and what not?
Happy birthday Magnificent Meg! Wishing you love and luck. 🎂🥂🙏🏾
This was so well done. Got me off the couch. Thank you.
Glad you enjoyed it!
Happy Birthday, Meg!!! 💕
Happy birthday Meg!! 🥳
I like this! Definitely the little push I needed to keep at it with running.
Yes! I started running as well this spring, after hating it for my whole life. In fact, after graduating from high school (where I had to do it in P.E. and it sucked so much!), I had promised myself I would *never* run. But, somehow, it all changed after I discovered my love for weightlifting. It was weightlifting that gave me the love of challenging myself - just a little, but consistently. And that gave me the confidence to give running another try. By no means I am good at this, but I have started to appreciate it. I love seeing what my body can do. Weightlifting will alwasy be the love of my life, but running (and other sports!) are fun, too!
So inspirational! Thank you
Ms Meg it’s obvious why you started running. Them lil babies move faster than you could possibly believe. I mean those lil legs get moving. Stay healthy and stay fast. Happy Birthday also.
Thank you!
I'm working with a condition that, symptoms aside, initiates with movement. I get symptoms when I move! Doesn't matter much what those symptoms are when then start up, get worse, take longer to recover from with movement!
So how to stay, get fit? I've been working on it. You inspire. thank you.
Super motivation love this Meg 🥰🥰
I'm going to start running and that's out of my comfort zone (actual probably serious)
Just started running myself. Right before this video I was considering slacking off and not doing my run today. Your video got me out the door and I did my 5k in 27 mins flat! Thanks for the inspiration.
SIMP
Good for you.
Megspiring, loved this goo giiirl ❤️
Always inspired. 4 mo pp and needed every word
Running is a game changer. It's the only thing that has helped me lose weight especially with diabetes and pcos now I'm starting to lift heavier so I get even more results.
Get it girl. Enjoy the journey
I can relate so much to this. Definitely not the child birth part. But from outside of your comfort zone, used to run, played soccer, prior service and not finding the comfort in the misery now has been amazing. To not training for my first marathon and breaking the mold of bodybuilders not running
I strength train regularly but I’m eager to start running to help shed some postpartum baby weight. I have no prior experience running; how often do you recommend I run per week, and for how long?
Meg ever heard of a Ragnar Race, I'm doing one in October, please look into to it. You are a BA..love your desire to explore new grounds. Peace love and light. V.
I love your words of wisdom. Good for you.
Love u ❤ hope for u to succeed in everything u do😁
Im 35 😄 and have just gotten serious about thy gym again this year since being and athlete in H.S. I've been trying to blend running with more weight training for about 4 months now and I notice that lifting is heavy on my legs causing soreness etc. A few times I took off on a run with tight hamstrings lol and it created issues in my knee (almost like runners knee). How do I balance both running and lifting when it seems like lifting wants to dominate my runs and slow me down 😮💨
Happy Birthday!!
I started running postpartum because I've gain lots of weight, that was 9 ears ago. Today i ran because it helps me with the stress and it's inspiring to see what you can do if you challenge yourself. I am 33 and I do not look the way I looked at 20, but I am the strongest and fastest version of myself.
I turned 34 a month ago. I can outrun 20 year old me no problem if over 3 miles....1 mile not so much.
Seriously though if getting into it don't focus on the pace at all, focus on the amount of time you're out there and hitting your zones. Running is not about progressive overload the same way weightlifting is. Your goal is to enhance your aerobic system and make some muscle adaptations but this is a TOTALLY different game than bodybuilding.
Go on a trail run for 30 minutes with your HR kept below 160. Then 35 minutes below 160. Then 40 below 160. Just KEEP running no matter what the pace is, your body will get faster overtime but this is NOTHING like grinding out a 1RM or 3RM squat or deadlift. Think of it as a fairly upbeat music mix that is somewhat relaxing, it's the last 10 minutes of running past your normal that you grow as a runner.
It’s cool to see you’re gonna throw in running cause honestly the strength work though it is tough and challenging I don’t think it compares to endurance work. I’ve done 2 mile open ocean swims and very long runs and wow that’s when the real demons come out. Also those days of 200-400-600-800m repeats to build capacity are nothing to laugh at. Good luck.M
Hmmmmm, got me thinking what I can do to challenge myself. 44th bday coming up in January.
Happy Born Day! 🥳
Heh incredible but I had a same "click" a month ago and started running. I also like the way it sucks lol. My knees hate me though, left one is actually okay with it, right one is complaining, still squatting 2-3 times per week, perhaps I shouldn't....I'll see, but it seems hard to balance out, are you still squatting regularly?
Happy birthday Meg!
Am taking a week off as the outside of one my knee hurt a bit might b runner knee i do not know so iv been icing it whilst on ibuprofen then i will attack again my long distance running i cannot wait
Nice work Megrun! 🙂💪
How do you maintain your muscle mass with so much intense cardio? Just curious. When I do high-intensity cardio, I tend to lose muscle or just stay the same. I mean, I get very lean, but I don't grow.
Shout out to you and all the moms out there crushing it
i recently started walking about 4 miles a day on top of my construction job its has done wonders for me ive lost about 25 pounds
Have you experienced any muscle loss? I know claims of catabolism are exaggerated with cardiovascular exercise but have you noticed it at all?
Loving all your videos!! Are you planning to do any activewear clothing reviews at all? Since you lift and run I’d love to get your opinions on what bras work best for each type of workout or shorts for thicker thighs that don’t chafe when running.
Sorry, 40m Dad of two here. I’ve been pushing my speed and distance on the bicycle. Really happy to be making strides there. Cycling group ride leader tells me I don’t look 40. Cheers and grins. The mental game is huge! Good job with your training.
Sprinting is a good complement to heavy lifting. Helps quite a bit to focus on cardio alongside strength development, to get the best of both worlds for physical health and fitness.
I gotta get into sprinting as well!
Running is so so hard for the body and joint. After seeing many friends in constant pain, and wrecking havoc on their bodies, I stopped. Isn’t worth it. One friend used to run 5-6 days a week for decades, now can barely walk. So please be careful. I now fast pace walk at a very steep incline. 🤗
I primarily train for bodybuilding but running whether on a treadmill or outside is definitely my preferred form of cardio. I made the mistake years back of jumping into too high of a weekly mileage and developed bad pain in my shins / legs. I think I was trying to do like 10-20 miles or something right at the beginning. Cardiovascular wise I could handle it but my body wasn’t accustomed to the beating it took (even though I was running more on grass than pavement). I since learned the importance of gradually increasing mileage regardless if I’m able to do more. Anyways, thanks for the video, good stuff!
cool video and happy birthday
You are a good-looking, athletic woman. Your running style is great.
