I did graffiti from 14-20 yrs old. I definitely grew out of it.. but if you weren’t involved in this culture you wouldn’t understand
Word💨🦠
Word up
So deep.
Alex Vives lol fuck off clown ass . Speaking on shit you know nothing about , you’re from the outside looking in .. there is culture in graffiti dating all the way back from the 70’s . Yeah there’s mad toys who tag up everything looking like shit but there’s people who actually follow a strict code . It’s vandalism . It even dates way back to cavemen marking their name up on the wall - it’s the same concept . It’s an underground subculture of some extremely dedicated artists who risk their life for their name in the streets - those who come from poverty and the slums where it’s their escape from drugs and violence . You wouldn’t understand cuz you’re a simp and a regular joe . This shit isn’t for you to understand .

The courage it has taken to make this channel is amazing. It is so thought provoking , these stories hopefully open the mind of the viewer. I wish the content maker the very best and send all the karma I can muster to the story tellers.
I really hope this guy goes back and listens to this and realizes how much he contradicts himself with his own logic...

I`m a Oldschool writer too - I started in 1983 and I can relate to Asher and how he thinks however as I grew I learned not to fight against or push the boundaries of society but rather work within - I found that you can get what you want out of this world by compromising and accepting some parts that you may not like or disagree with. I can tell by the violence mentioned that he is still fighting for something that he can never gain. The narcissistic tendencies that Graffiti Writers surround themselves with is a bit egotistical and hard to get out of - that is the result of having to do whatever in order to earn validation and credibility from our peers. I was so glad to hear that his children are successful and I hope that he can learn to use his skill more constructively - Curb the anger and use that emotion to be more open to being part of and not outside of society. I am a teacher, a father and a Graffiti Writer - I paint because Its who I am, What I do and my mental stability, my clarity and my inner peace is well taken care of - I create for me - but - I like the praise I get - I am satisfied and don`t need to fight against society anymore, I do for me but also I do to show others. Good luck with your court case Asher - use this as a learning experience and try to be more positive for your family

Well said
@Ben 777 Grow the fuck up. You literally sound 14. That joke is from 2015, find a new one lad.
Attention seeking much 🤦🏽♀️😂
i think what he does & what ur saying he should do is the difference between an artist and ur average painter. ppl shouldnt conform and people shouldnt pressure ppl to conform. we need people in society that fight what is right and wrong. hes brave for holding his art above his own individual happiness or well being.
you sound toy af stfu
I was raised by my grandparents. My mom never came to pick us up for school, so I lived with my dad with my grandparents help. I was allowed to smoke, cuss and do anything I wanted. I chose not to. I was the mother of the house, worried about everything all the time. We didn’t have food and when I went to the grocery store, I did all the shopping at such a young age...I don’t make excuses, I choose the right thing to do.

@@patrickvargas8442 what do you mean? Did Asher do something since then?

He seems manic to me. Very proud of himself and he thinks that he can do anything. Rapid talking.
when im legit manic i never notice it until somehow tells me. then i see it clearly.
I don’t see him that way. He’s living his life the best way he knows. Nothing manic or disturbing here
You just don't write, This dude's up. It's not about thinking He can do anything, it's knowing.
You can't tell shit from this interview. You wouldn't be able to tell if he's manic just from this 10 mins of talking...YOU sound like the crazy one. What kind of fuckery is this, where we just watch a few mins of someone, then diagnose their life and circumstance?
What a dumbass comment.
He's not even talking fast...he's just not talkin ' slow.
Lmao. Thw comments here are so comedic.
Asher is a legend on these streets.. Asher isn’t a maniac Asher is smart to you might think he’s a maniac but that’s because your not on the same level of his mentality Asher has gone through so much but he learns from them and learns to not let those things bring him down but to make him the person he is don’t call someone a maniac maybe you’re the true maniac for thinking someone else is a maniac don’t judge people just within 5 min of the video smh
"You don't own this building but i understand that you own it" This guy isn't as smart as he thinks he is.
My uncle is a rather rich man that is said to own a few different properties in NYC/NYS. He often will say that he's just investing money in properties because he ultimately has to get consent to modify a property that's supposed to be under his ownership. I'm not sure about other states, but an "owner" of a property just can't do as they please with something they're said to be the owner of. You can pay off your home, but could lose that home/money you invested for failure to pay the never ending tax that comes with what you are said to own.
@@rgw1380rw Yeah, a sibling of mine live in LA - the property tax is a fucking joke. You basically rent your property even when you "own" it :D
fucking joke. Fuck that place.
@@breakz187 You pay hundreds of thousands or more for a property, then have to pay a tax in order to not lose those hundreds of thousands. That shit just keeps you in debt.
But if a wall of your building is on the public street than that wall isn’t yours, it’s the public’s wall now,
He talked for 22 minutes and misspoke once bohoo.
I never realized there are so many layers to graffiti art. Wowee!
You can say what you want, but the illegal graffiti scene has sparked a massive art movement in return, one of which the majority of people are amazed by when it is in legal confinements. But, its roots, the "illegal" side will always have a place as being authentic, and respected by those who understand and or took part in that movement. Hence why he (and a whole list of others) has gained a spot in the history books and will have credit long after. Not many people can say that.
I really don't like graffiti myself, it's just not my type of art, but its kinda stupid to deny how much graffit has influenced art, just go to a shopping mall and look at the clothes, a lot of everybody's Tshirts look like it could have been s=inspired by grafitty, look at modern urban stamps. And thats not even talkimng about music, popular culture, photography, tattoos. Yes it's kinda illegal and prevalent in high crime areas and maybe thats why some people see it as ugly, the illegal or not illegal argument is a bit moot, illegal today, legal tomorrow, weed was like that and some people thought it would never change.
Abusive would be the overwhelming term in a word map on words used by people on this channel
Some u can believe, some I just assume the "abuse" was just being reprimanded by law/authoritarian figures for bad behaviors
I loved this interview!

I personally would knock on the door of the place I want to paint and ask them what they would like to see on their place of residence. Then I would put my style in with their idea. So it is like two minds coming together in mutual respect and creativity.
I find the comments here quite interesting compared to the other videos; particularly the comments of praise towards gang members that tell stories of shootings, drug abuse, robbery, etc. But the moment a guy says he changes the colours of a wall in the street, it's too far. This really speaks about how society perceives graffiti as some horrific crime rather than the art form is really is. From the very start the artist mentions that he'd write his daughter's name around the city to make her happy, that there details his artistic expression and willingness to create to make others happy.
Just because you're poor or own property in a poor area you're "fair game"...twisted thinking
5P it's literally true tho have u been to main Los Angeles? everything is covered in graffiti EVERYTHING so might as well have some dope shit Lol then bunch of wack graffiti
Yeah he respects well to do areas but poor areas just need to appreciate his art whether they do or not. But he admits he wouldn't want it on his own shit. Sorry dude get a paper canvass. Poor areas always get dumped on whether its trash or graffiti and its not ok
You people in the comments I totally missed the entire message here you pick out your little bits and pieces that you want to comment on but you can't follow his entire story because of your add or whatever other sheep diagnosis you may have

I have been a big fan of his work for a long time... and to understand his consistency in getting up can only be summed up to pure passion and love for the sport! Even though I could never participate in that kind of action his Art will always have my respect. Ugh so in love with himself. I can dig all the mods but the earlobe. It looks crazy
15:51 "You don't own this building, but I understand that you own it"
I can understand what he meant by that comment. A conversation I had with my uncle many years ago made me understand that he himself doesn't refer to himself as an owner of the multiple properties he's said to own. He has to get permission to modify what he's said to own, or he could face hefty fines for doing what he pleases to something that's not completely under his control.
