My father, a very successful businessman in his Pierre Cardin suits and hand made shoes, never smacked us, never even rose his voice at us. It was a look. And we hated getting that look. It would make me burst into tears, even as an adult. It was a look of disappointment and that was the worst thing for me, never wanted to disappoint him, even in middle age. He died at 87 in December 2022, and I cried like a baby. I was 62, and felt like his little girl again. Such a good dad. I miss him so much.

I'm white, and my dad was the same way. You did not disrespect our mom. My dad was a cop, and there were a couple times when Mom got off the phone and the cop car pulled up in the driveway while he was on duty, and you know you were in trouble. Life got real bad real fast then.

When I was in the Army I came home early and I hear our oldest son snappin back like he was in charge of something. So I eased up the steps stepped around the corner and he looked like he had seen a ghost and before he could try to explain I yoked him up and gave him some serious wall to wall counseling to ease his mind.😂😂😂

That's real. One time when I was twelve, dad had one foot out the door heading to work when he heard me tell mom I would take out the trash when I was ready. Moments later after regaining consciousness, I realized I had lost a block of time in my life. He never, EVER had to reprimand me again.

Reflections of my own dad. He was especially sensitive when any one of his sons back-talked our mom or even looked at her with a scowl on our faces. He'd go ballistic real quick and never waited for an opportune time. Plus, if any one of us stuck up for a targeted sibling against our dad, it was simply utter suicide. By the way, our dad was a construction worker and did hard / heavy physical labor 5-days a week for decades. Disciplining one of us was not hard at all for him. It irritated him, though, when he came home after working so hard to have to get physical with any of his sons. Great memories of our youth ! We miss and love you, dad.

My Dad would have come home from work... pissed because of what I may have said to my Mom, pissed because he had to leave work, pissed because he was tired from wearing my ass out, and last but not least pissed because he had to go back to work. My narrow ass would have to eat off the mantelpiece for a week because I wouldn't be able to sit for at least that long. Dad's like this man and my Dad is what more households need. "I can show better then I can tell you." is something you didn't want to hear out of my Dad's mouth, because you knew it was all down hill from there.

Wish I could have had a mom that I could have loved more. I was a little girl adopted out of Germany after WWII, and my mom was born a narcissist. I remember seeing her beating our puppy because he tore up some flowers, I was about 3 yrs old and was shocked at how she beat him with a board, and he screamed like crazy, it horrified me. I told my dad and they got rid of the puppy. then she turned her rage on me. I use to wear welts and stripes on my back down to my knees. I had to respect her or get beat. finally my dad found out and they divorced, I had to threaten my mom with violence to get her to stop hitting me when she was in a bad mood. I didn't dare do anything wrong before that.

@@rachelburgener819 Those experiences taught me the way I never would treat my own kids, They knew mom was boss, but I certainly never took out bad things on them. We had a very good relationship.
