  • Our viewer Richard sent us some Bisto Parsley Sauce granules from the UK. We gave it a try over some fish, broccoli and cauliflower. How do you like to use parsley sauce?

    Parsley sauce is normally put on fish (cod) and mash potatoes dish, Also parsley sauce is used on Pie Mash..a London food, it might sound a bit gross but pie mash and liquor made with a parsley sauce, ...add a dash of vinegar , salt and pepper...it really tastes better than it sounds...

      Hi John! Actually that sounds very tastey, now we can't wait to try the sauce over mashed potatoes. And thank you for the tip on adding vinegar, salt and pepper, we'll give that a try as well. Hope you have a great Friday and a very pleasant weekend!

    Happy Friday! Nice video guys. I like parsley sauce with white fish. I used to make my own white sauce, but it's so easy to use ready made jars and granules like this. Seafood/Fish pie is lovely, as others have said. You can use white fish, smoked haddock, prawns etc, in a seasoned white/parsley sauce and topped with mashed potato. Yum. I suppose it's like a NE clam chowder with a mash topping!
    Have a good weekend! 😊

      Hi Agranda, Happy Friday! Thank you for the compliment :) The sauce does seem to go nicely with white fish, looking forward to trying it with mashed potatoes. Now we're very curious to try fish pie :) Hope you have a great weekend as well! :)

    I adore parsley sauce! Reminds me of my school dinners at junior school - proper comfort food - the bisto one is ok but its dead easy to make with fresh parsley - yum yum yummy 😋

    I sometime put Parsley sauce on cold slices of Gammon when I have Gammon Egg and chips.

      Hi Trevor, Happy Friday! Ohh that sounds good! Our train of thought during the video was associating the sauce with mainly fish but pork, I could see that going very nicely! Thank you, we'll defiitely give that a try the next time we have ham. Hope you have a great weekend!

    Hi Ross & Tina, I’m new to your channel and loving it! I’m a sucker for lashings of parsley sauce over a minced beef pie and mashed potato, a kind of home made pie and mash dinner. Being a Londoner and being raised on pie and mash in the traditional pie and mash shops, absolutely love it. Google South East London’s favourites - Manze, Goddards or Lou farrows, that is an episode on its own. Take care guys 😄

      Hi Shanon, Happy Friday! Thank you very much, and thank you for watching :) With all of the suggestions we've received, we're looking forward to having the sauce again with mashed potatoes, pork, as well as some meat pies. A very versatile sauce, glad we had the chance to try it. It's funny, a co-worker of mine had the same lunch every day - he would go to a local coffee/bakery shop and order a small loaf of sourdough bread and ranch dressing - that was it, that was his lunch, just dunk the bread in the ranch dressing. Now replace the ranch dressing with the parsley sauce, no complaints :) Hope you have a great weekend :)

    Hi kids... Do some research into the famous London dish called pie mash and liquor. I love the stuff and it has a lot of parsley.

    • @FinnLovesFood
      @FinnLovesFood  Před 3 měsíci +1

      Hi Alex, Happy Friday! I just did a search on it and found multiple articles. The first " the dish has been popularised as "a Cockney classic". It typically consists of a minced beef pie, mashed potato and a parsley sauce known as liquor" but often accompa nied with jellied eel? Sounds interesting! We'd be willing to try the eel but we we wouldn't hesitate to try the beef pie, mash and sauce :) The photos looked really good! Have a great weekend!

    You would make a “fish pie” with ingredients similar to a shepherd’s/cottage pie using fish as the “meat” content with a crispy cheesy spuddy topping!! 😘
    In our supermarkets here, you can buy a tray of raw fresh fish “mix” - in the fish aisle (obvs 🙄😁) chunks of different fish types, with a couple of prawns, scallops in there for good measure….
    Gently fry off the fish in seasoned melted butter, boil up the potatoes and make a nice creamy mash. Make the Bisto Sauce and mix with fresh boiled milk (add a splodge of cream for extra calcium quotas 😉… 👍🏻 ) and place the fish and sauce, with potato topping in a baking dish (sprinkle grated cheese over the mash) and cook for about 25 mins on a regular heat …. Good comfort food eating…☺️

      A fresh fish mix sounds so convenient and a nice way to have a variety of fish ready to go for making this recipe. We may have something similar - it sounds like a good start for this recipe! Have a good weekend.

    Bisto Parsley fish pie is really good, it is not a pie in the way you are thinking as it does not have pastry, basically its cut up fish in the sauce ( mixed to be fairly thick ) some add other things also then it is topped with mashed potatoes and a little grated cheese and then baked. It really is nice and would recommend you try

    Mmmm looks great, I tend to have parsley sauce over ham. And as for broccoli, have you tried roasting in a tiny bit of garlic oil for 20mins? 🤤

    • @FinnLovesFood
      @FinnLovesFood  Před 3 měsíci

      That sounds quick and easy for the broccoli and we both love garlic. We have had it roasted with garlic, ginger, soy sauce and sesame oil and that was delicious.

    If you use it to make a fish pie it's made with milk and a dash of cream not water. It's basically a fish version of shepherds pie. Also parsley sauce is famously used for pie and mash. Which is a dish from the East end of London.

    Hi T&R happy Friday glad u tried parsley sauce, I'd normally have it fish plain usually Cod, white fish which actually Alaskan pollock something u might be able get in California with being American fish. Also get Basa (Vietnamese) fillets frozen cook in microwave, Basa very meaty fish lovely taste nice have creamy mashed potato vegetables with parsley makes fabulous meal.
    Only concern is mac n cheese to me seems be competing with sauce id leave mac n cheese off next time just fish, mashed potatoes & veg as they say in cookery programme
    LESS Is MORE = meaning don't overload your plate with different flavours stick to 3.

    • @FinnLovesFood
      @FinnLovesFood  Před 3 měsíci +1

      Hi Richard! Happy Friday. We do see Alaskan pollock here. This is the first time we've tried Barramundi, or Asian sea bass. We almost had mashed potatoes, but wanted to get that mac n cheese out of the freezer. 😀We wondered about having the parsley sauce over potatoes too. Thanks again and hope you have a great weekend.

    If you want a stronger tasting fish try hot Smoked Kippers (Herring) on hot well buttered toast, maybe with a side of scrambled eggs, and a cup of tea or coffee. Used to be quite popular in Victorian times for breakfast. I tried it when saw in a Sherlock Holmes film. Very nice, just have to pick out the bones before or during eating. And healthy for you too.

      @rthoc71 Před 3 měsíci +1

      If u ever up in Whitby on holiday recommend u have their smoked kippers, another famous one Craster Kippers on Northumberland coast. I'd usually by kippers frozen with knob butter inc in Tesco lovely have odd occasional bones, lot better than Trout one worst fishes ever had spent more time picking out bones than eating fish. Only advice give u stay away from Trout if its On menu in your local area.

    • @FinnLovesFood
      @FinnLovesFood  Před 3 měsíci +2

      I think we had pickled herring in a salad at a Scandinavian fair. That might be the only time we've had it. Picking bones out is what I always hated about eating fish as a kid. 🙂
      We got the package today and will be opening this weekend. Thank you!

      @@FinnLovesFood I had pickled herring (Rollmops) once from a Swedish colleague, they were interesting......😁. However cooked Smoked Kippers on hot buttered toast are, as the saying goes 'A Different Kettle of Fish'. (Pun intended)

      @@Temeraire101 we weren't so sure about the pickled herring salad, but it was surprisingly good - though it had a lot of other things in it. Looked up kippers - they are often for breakfast?

    if you Google Captain's Pie or Admiral's Pie you'll get a better understanding of fish pie either home made or chilled or frrozen pre prepared ready meals, of course with the price of North Sea fish these days the proportion of mash to fish is usually heavy on the potato ATB guys Bill

    • @FinnLovesFood
      @FinnLovesFood  Před 3 měsíci +2

      Hi Bill. We googled Admiral's pie and the first thing that came up was from Young's. We briefly saw that brand in our stores and haven't seen it since (though it was fish and chips, no fish pie). Have a great weekend.
