- This video will show how to remove and replace the Headlight housing, and the front bumper on a 2016-2018 Nissan Altima, as well as how to access the bulbs in the housing.
Note: if you just want to replace the headlight bulb - go through the wheel well like this: www.carcarekiosk.com/video/20...
Filmed on a 2016 Nissan Altima with a 2.5 liter inline 4 cylinder engine. Check out www.carcarekiosk.com/videos/N... for the rest of the how-to videos we filmed on this car.

Thanks for the thorough vid. Pretty confident that I can do this. Gonna have to do this to the wife's Altima soon. Replacing the headlight assembly on my Ram was much much easier than this 😂
Thank you so much for posting this. If you had not, I would have never attempted to do this myself. Because of your very good instructions and video. I replaced my headlamp assy today.
Did you do it bc your headlights were super dim?
@@angelmyers869 I’m about to replace mine because of that problem. Nissan is a piece of shit company. I bought this car in 2015 and still haven’t cracked 50k in miles and my headlights are so sim I can’t drive at night.
That was SO helpful. My daughter and I are tackling this today. I wouldn’t have known even where to start without this. Great video with detailed explanation. Thanks so much!
How did it go? Any issues?
You go girls! As a father, I'm happy to hear of this momma-daughter project. Wish I could get my daughter even to see what's under the hood.
/signed/ "a little envious"
there is so much an easier way
Man so much appreciated to see you strip down a perfect headlight just for this channel.
Not so perfect. All those headlights assemblies are going to be replaced by Nissan, people can't see anything and that's why this video has so many views lol
Fantastic video. My wife ran over a tire on the interstate and did a ton of damage to the bumper and under carriage. Body shop estimated 1700 dollars, but I’m gonna try to find auto salvage parts and fix it myself. Thanks again!
How did that go
Thank you so much for this video. You saved me $160 install fee ....... AWESOME!!!!
Spot on perfect instructions. Made the removal and installation a snap. Thank you very much!
Thank for the video!!! Was installing led turn signals and it was impossible without removing the headlight!!!
Thank you so much, I'm not a car guy and I was able to do it 😁
This is the best video instruction I found it! Thanks
Great video. I read the comment and I see there may be some confusion despite the pretty obvious title. If you have the typical low beam issue then this video is for you. Changing the bulb will not fix the defect that Nissan will not claim. There is a part that is burning out that will make the problem come back constantly . If you came here to change the bulb alone this video is not for you.
Can you elaborate on this "Low Beam Issue"? Is the problem the low beams become very dim? So changing my bulb (no easy task - FU Nissan) will not correct this? My 2016 shouldn't need a new housing because of manufacturing bs. But it sounds like you're saying this is a known problem. Would love to hear more on this.
@@yellowknight97 - There is a reflective surface inside the housing for the low beam. It degrades over time and becomes less reflective. You have to replace the entire headlight assembly. My wife's 2015 Altima is having this problem.
@knytrydr73 did you replace the headlight on your altima ? Did it fix the low beam problem?
Thank you for an in depth video. The only help I could find for this. That's a lot of work for a turn signal bulb
I really appreciate your video. I was informed there's a class action settlement on those headlights due to delamination on interior causing very dim lights. I purchased LED for replacement..your video will definitely help me
Same here. I just ordered my lights for my 2014. It’s almost like they’re off
One of the absolute best instructional videos I have watched. Perfect in every regard. I just ordered a pair of new Nissan Altima headlight assemblies and look forward to utilizing this excellent video as I proceed with removal and reinstallation.
Best video I have seen on performing this task, and I now have the confidence to undertake this job on my car. Now all I need is to get that tool to safely remove those plastic rivets...Thanks a million!!! Now, can you do a video on adjusting the parking brake?!
Great video...didn't think it would take all of this just to replace a headlight housing in my wife's car. Thanks for making this video!
Just change it from the wheel well like I did....simple
I just got a pair of assembly and needed this....hardest part? Thinking its hard. Sweet video💪
Great video, thanks for posting this.
My mechanically son did my 2013 Nissan Altima 2.5 SV yesterday. Took about 90 minutes at a leisurely pace with me assisting as I had watched this video and made a list of sequence of tasks to do and had the few tools ready to go. Our vehicle was not identical to this one shown but close enough. It does help to have an assistant but not absolutely necessary.
If you live in USA (I live in Canada) make sure to take advantage of the Class Action Lawsuit Suarez vs Nissan USA in a TN court that looks after replacement in various ways. Make sure you claim before the April 20, 2022 deadline.
I'm trying but Nissan rejected almost all of the Altima claims, including mine. We are so frustrated with Nissan's piss-poor customer service. Ugh!
Fixed my headlight thanks to you sir!!!! ❤
The nissan dealership shop wanted 430 or more to replace one headlight assembly. He'll no.. That's why I'm here
Yeah for just one and it was not even led
Thay why we are all here 💯
That’s sad
Scotty Kilmer doesn't call them "stealerships" out of petty hatefulness. They've got a well-earned reputation.
The worst thing with my Altima is that the lights are _dim_ even with new bulbs - it's like the inside of the assemblies are dirty. $5 says when I pull them, they'll be non-OEM.
@Steven Stewart sounds about right. "R.A." Is selling assemblies for ~$750 as of 4 months ago. Replacement requires pulling bumper cover and many splash guards. Figure $125-150/hr labor, then dealer markup & shop fees (rags, fuel/lube/hyd oil disposal, hazmat cert, loaner car or "free Uber," etc)
THANK YOU SO MUCH MAN. You literally saved me $1,100 whereas I bought 2 brand new headlights off Amazon for $150 lol. Btw YES this does work for a 2014 Nissan Altima 2.5s
Thanks. I was wondering that because my 2014 Altima looks slightly different than this, and I was afraid to use this video in case some steps (bolts/screws/clips) were missing.
@@jameskerr3257 I bought a car clip kit off amazon w/ 200 clips or so and the fasteners for maybe $15-20.
On my 2014 do I have to take off bumper?
Never thought We had to do all this, insane.
great video - and its beyond frustrating that Nissan designed it this way - all I need to do is replace my low beams but my hands are WAY too large to fit in there to twist anything.
thank you for showing all of these steps. I just got in the headlamp that I need to install on my car. I can see this being a whole day or more job. You make it look so easy and on a new Altima it probably is not too bad. On an Altima that has substantial miles on it, The plastic is hard and the clips break and it is a pain in the ass.
Did ours yesterday, about 90 minutes. Didn’t break any clips as these type are easy to remove and reuse. Check out the Class Action lawsuits Suarez vs Nissan and apply before April 20, 2022
Great video. Sooo helpful. I needed that! Thanks so much! Keep it up…
This video is perfect. I thought I had bad lightbulbs on my 2013 Altima and it was not the bulbs . The Altimas have this defect where the headlight assembly give out and does not emit the light out bright so u must buy new headlight assembly for the car to make it shine and be bright again at night. This is actually very very easy. Saved me 600 . Bought the headlight assembly and had a Saturday all to myself and job done. Make sure u have all the necessary tools if u arent a tool guy.
Felix Rios where did you buy the headlight assembly?
@@elkaisermendez6994 Amazon or Ebay either one . Nissan Altima headlight assembly. 180 to 200 ish for the pair.
Felix Rios and did it fix the problem? Do the lights shine bright?
@@elkaisermendez6994 yes sure did. Let's see how long they last. Brought the brightest bulbs and found it it wasn't the bulbs. Now they are bright like when I bought the car in 2013
Thanks for the video. I ordered new headlight set for my altime after watching this 😂❤🙏👍

This is so thorough and well put together. I haven’t actually tried this yet but I feel confident after watching this. Thank you for making this!
Just finished swapping out both headlight units on our 2013 Altima SV. The video helped tons, but the mounting screws and fasteners are different on our car. The night drive test will be in a few hours from now. Hope the new units make a difference. The old ones were terrible. It's bad when your yellow parking lights are brighter than the low beams sitting right behind somebody at a traffic light. Nissan... UGH....
How did they turn out? Fix the issue? Im about to replace mine on my '14. Fingers crossed 🤞
@@blueglovemechanic the swap worked great. The reflectors in the old housing were trashed. Don't know how they got that way. Read about others having that issue. The car's low/high beams and fog lights are all LED now. My son hasn't had any issues with them. I also did the brakes and rotors in April and replaced the driver's seat switch assembly when the recline switch failed. It kept us pretty busy during lockdown. Good luck and have fun with it. I did.
Thank you. Big help. I watched this twice then knocked it out.
How long did it take?
This is a awesome and helpful video
This is NOT applicable to a 2013 altima. All the screws and rivets are in many different places.
I was gonna say: YR/SCMV
Your rivet/screw count may vary.
For us 2013 owners, at least the video gets us in the ballpark of what needs to be done. Wish me luck!
Same goes for the 2015. However this video still does generally guide you in the right direction despite the differences between years.
Well I mean it does say 2016-2018.
Literally says 2016-2018 lmao
Amazing video! Well-lit, well-explained and easy instructions!
I just changed mine out thanks to this video!! Massive change in lighting and now I feel safe driving again at night.
Thank you so much!
My local Nissan dealer wanted a $185 diagnostic fee just to pop the hood and that wasn't going to roll into the cost of any fix needed.
Then, I asked what testing the fee covered and they couldn't even answer me. 🙄
I had to replace my bulbs for my turn signal. Now my park lights wont come on. Do you have any suggestions on what may be wrong?
What socket size is the four bolts holding the housing into place?
Great Video, thank you Is the air bag sensor anywhere near that bumper? I am afraid of setting them off. Any thoughts?
Just pull plastic in wheel far enough to reach bulb no need to tear a car apart to change a bulb
This is a video for changing your headlight assembly, not the bulbs.
Tbh
Yes, if all you need to do is change the bulbs. But actually, I think the main purpose of this video is how to remove and replace the headlight housing...I think it’s an excellent video on how to achieve this!
Did this on my old car 2006 corolla and had to do all this as well. Now looking to work on the bumpers of my 2016 Altima.
Look up video that shows how to replace bulb removing only front inner fender shield .thats what I done n it took only 20 minutes to replace headlights
John Lowery I don’t need to replace any bulbs or headlights.
Chiquitita ,I help You
Really GOOD! 👍👍👍
Can anyone tell me what is the plastic pice that connects the headlight and the fender together
Very good video thx.
This is fn insane for a headlight change
took my guy 10 min as he took his time.. hardest part was to turn the wheels....
Dang I gotta do all this!!
awesome 👌🏾
Need help with a 2013 note grill removal
Thank you I was going to spend 150 dollars to a body shop but don’t need to ty👍
To change just the bulb you can reach into the wheel well cover where the first bolts were removed and replace them thru that. This is for only replacing the actual head light assemblies.
I was considering buying a new Nissan , now they can shove it where the sun don't shine
Here is how to go through the wheel well to change the bulb: www.carcarekiosk.com/video/2017_Nissan_Altima_SL_2.5L_4_Cyl./lights/headlight we made this video for removing the housing in case you want to upgrade the whole housing to a LED aftermarket one
How do you change the big head light
OMGosh. How many screws was that? Can you really do this at home if you are not super mechanically inclined?
Nice better doing this video than me😂😂
No one asked all bulb numbers? I'm going to do HID lows, LED highs and fogs. What bulb sizes do I need?
Thanks a ton for doing this video. However, this has just given me another reason and reaffirmed by commitment to never purchasing another nissan vehicle. It takes me 5mins or less on my Toyota sequoia SUV. It should take 20 steps and 1hr + to change headlights on any vehicle in the 21st century. 🙈😭😂
I have a 2014 Nissan Altima SV I need help with my tail light bulb and right tail light fuse # Red fuse 10 keeps popping I'm trying to get it fixed for court anyone can help me I'm in Birmingham Alabama
What size are bolts?
What do you recommend for headlight bulbs someone say sylvania bulbs in orange wrapper
Sylvania is the way to go (full disclosure, they are the Official Lighting Company of CarCareKiosk) but they make great bulbs and we endorse them 100%. Here is a url to lookup what bulbs fit: www.sylvania-automotive.com/apps/vlrg-us/Vlrg/?CarCareKiosk
Does anyone know exactly what the panel in 0:03 is called. 😅😅
Come on guys it's not that hard don't be scared... It just uses basic tools... Thank you for the video!
Anyone know what size plastic clips because I know I should probably buy some extras before I start to take it all apart? Also, if you have fog lights, do you have to disconnect them to take the bumper off or is there enough slack in the wires when you take the bumper off and set it on the ground? Sorry. I am not a car mechanic/expert but want to try this myself to save $800. Thanks!
Did you ever get/find an answer for the size of the clips? Looking to tackle this job Sunday.
I had enough room to not disconnect the fog lights, just set it on the ground as far as it could reach
This is for Altima models 2016-2018 only! the bumper and grille are different from the 13-15 models
I would change the title to be correct in your tutorial
Any specifics as to what is different? Was looking to do this exact job Sunday to replace the housing.
I just did this on my 2014 tonight. I think the only difference is the number of screws, bolts, button things and mine did not have the things behind the grill. If you have a 2014 this video definitely gives you plenty of info to complete the job. Thank you!
@@patsiebenaler855 awesome that’s all I needs to know thanks
@@patsiebenaler855 Hey I am going to be replacing my headlight housing soon on my 2014 Altima. Was it hard to remove the bumper?
@@xavierreddick6555 I was very surprised on how easy it was. I have a 2014 so it was slightly different than the video, I think I had fewer screws. It took me just under 2 hours from start to finish.
Driver side is easy by peeling back the lining but My passenger side blinker went out and it's not reachable from behind the lining how annoying...I gotta do all this to replace a damn blinker
Great video man . Could you perhaps list all the tools that where needed for the repair?
I also need tools info
do you have to do this whole process to replace the high beams only?
No. To replace the high beams first you remove the steering wheel and drivers seat then you have to remove the passenger seat. Step number #2 lift the two front wheels and remove the transmission. Then remove the 4 screws next to the battery on the left side of the bumper, pull out the headlight housing and replace high beam light bulbs 💡. Now how to replace your air filter. 🙄
How to remove the grill
i know that you can access the low beams without removing the bumper, but can you access the high beams only when the bumper is off?
Wait, I have to disassemble the car just to replace the headlights??? 🤦🏽♂️💨💨💨💨💨
Yes to your question.. if you are looking for replacing the light bulb... this isnt the video for you... the other video showed pealing back the plastic protector by the wheel and exposing the rear of the bulb. Reach in and replace.
this is for the HEADLIGHT HOUSING and yes you have yo remove all those bolts and nuts for you to replace the HOUSING/ASSEMBLY, not the BULB..
The whole headlight assembly yes but not the low or high beam lights alone
shyshotcaller27 yes
I mean wtf is this nissan? couldn't make this easier
After watching this thank God my 2016 Nissan rogue does not have this kind of problem it only has this kind of problem for changing the radiator
Is there any way I can do it with out doing all thay??
Just the bulb is right here: www.carcarekiosk.com/video/2017_Nissan_Altima_SL_2.5L_4_Cyl./lights/headlight
Many thx I cant see sh!t at night, just ordered my new headlamps. Getting a head start on how to install them
Here I am again I need to replace the other side. Even though the side that I replaced 2 years ago needs replaced again, it is because of the chrome paint that is on the inside of the housing it burns away and causes the light to not shine at all. I just wished that the whole assembly did not have to be replaced.
Is that a Wisconsin accent I’m hearing?
I was quoted $1190 before tax to replace both housings at the dealership... Lol, no thanks I'll learn how to do it myself.
Need help with a 2019 Altima
won't work with this video. This one applies to models 2013-2015
So basically if one bulb goes out it's just best to buy new housing and replace all the bulbs for both sides?
Read other comments... Replacing the bulbs alone may not do it... There is a defect in the projector from Nissan which burns out the reflective part, so no Meyer how bright a bulb you put in will not fix the issue... Though you should try that first like I did... (you just go behind the splash guard in the wheel well) but like many others that didn't work for me... Had to replace the entire assembly.
You can get thru the wheel well
Like this video but what tools I'm I using for this job? Also is it just me or did he skip a lot before the video got started 😂😂😂
If any one is doing this for a 2014 model it's different,. This vid does help but there are differences in bumper removal in the 2014 model. I will post a vid on how I changed my burnt out headlights
Thank you but now my aim light is facing down
This was probably the most complicated difficult way ever to remove these bulbs😂 all you have to do is turn the wheel to the side and unscrew the liner and you could literally reach in and get the bulb out and replace it 😂😂😂 work smarter not harder‼️ but good info on the bumper tho lol
this is for people that want to replace the entire headlight housing u moron 😂
I just did this on a 2013. All you need to do is pull the inner fender aside and you can access the main headlight. 4 plastic Phillips screws on the bottom of the bumper and one plastic rivet on the inner fender.
Exactly!some ppl make it hard than it has to be!
I realize now this
Video is for removing the entire housing, not just a bulb replacement. I think a lot of people came here looking to change the bulb.
Thank you for the comment. This video is more for replacing the entire housing. For videos on how to replace specific bulbs, as well as other maintenance issues on this car (and many more) please visit our website at...... carcarekiosk.com
This was for replacing the housing not the bulb.
Why do you need to remove the bumper to replace the bulb and headlight.
Thanks for posting BUT, totally RIDICULOUS on the Nissan engineers to do all this just to put a bulb in a socket !!!
Isn't this a Nissan Sentra? It definitely ain't my 2013 Altima. If it's a Altima it's 2018 and up. Very detailed video , but why put it's for 2013-2018 Altima when it's not? That's a pretty important detail don't you think? Hopefully it works for my 2013 Altima
I’m guess the sentra is similar way too?! 🤦♂️
This looks like a Nissan Maxima or an Altima with a different front end than mine. If you are a person watching this in order to change the bulb, double check what your car looks like before you begin. There is other videos with the different Altima type which only require the wheel liner to be removed.
It’s an Altima. Maybe you should know yours cars before looking stupid 😉
@@DumSpiroSpero864 good point... I guess the Altima has two different front ends depending on the model..mine doesn't look like this one or require the whole front end pulled off to change the bulb.
I think it's a Nissan Sentra tbh. The Altima is more popular car so he tricked us by saying Altima for views . Whatever it' is it's a 2018 and up model. Not 2013 -2018. Dude is wrong for video title
@@mikeg6958 This is an Altima. A simple google search of 2016 Altima would have saved you from looking like a fool.
@kilojoule11 google? Just bc you use it everyday to tie your shoes doesnt mean we all depend on it...
why the hard way?
You can just pull the lining back and change the bulb
CarCareKiosk also offers a You Tube video just to replace------- ONLY THE BULB & NOT THE ENTIRE LIGHT ASSEMBLY--------- It's Great. --------- Check out the link in the comment section below.....
Guy told me $350 to remove the housing lights at the shop, smh.👀
Suddenly paying the $30 sounds like a better idea than going thru ALL this hassle.
Other videos show a much easier way to do this but removing the entire bumper
other videos says.. replace bulbs... this one says remove headlight
Depends on what you need to replace. If you are just replacing bulbs you can do that from wheel well and pulling back liner panel
If you need to replace the entire headlight assembly(s) you need to remove bumper and this is required to fix the deteriorated reflectors that are the cause of dim low beam headlights and which were subject to successful Class Action lawsuits against Nissan.
A lot of damn idiots in the comment section. He is showing how to replace the whole headlamp assembly that houses the bulb. If the plastic or glass of the assembly were to shatter, you'd need to buy a whole new assembly.
