As a non-Indian I got so impressed by your drawers for spices!
I used to live in a university dorm with an Indian girl, and she made me some chai for the first time (fun fact: we, russians also call tea "chai"), we cooked for eachother our local dishes and it was super fun. I found your video, because I got nostalgic of my student days. I still remember the day she moved in our room and started unpacking, and I was so surprised of her taking out a huge box of different spices, which probably took 1/4th of her luggage😄I'm happy that now we can cook almost any meal by learning from real representatives of their culture
im curious to ask but how long did her spices last ?
@@Celestials1aurora I'm pretty sure the box was gone before summer holidays, as she brought a new one when she got back😄
@@SPECKS89 just chai
🩷🩷🩷 your student days!
I am so jealous of your spice drawers! In fact, I sent this to my husband as a hint. I would love a "tour" of your spice drawer, maybe as the framework for a series of recipes explaining how Indian cooking uses spices.
Hope he got the hint 😊
Who isn't? Simple but amazing idea. Instead of displaying all bottles, these drawers are a sensible idea.
Yes, drooling over those 😍 organized drawers!
make a video of all your spices and drawers

For the plants, I never want to cut them either but I take the cuts, sit them in water, let them grow roots and put back into the pot for a fuller looking plant. Thanks for the tea tutorial!
My mum always makes masala saa for us when we're sick. A bonus is when boiling the tea, the entire house fills with the aroma of spices. It's so comforting especially on an autumn/winter's day :)
Thats so true
Rend dend?
Needs jaggary or honey 😇

@@inturn23 it did but then Chetna added some sugar in end after I typed my message
I love the Parsi style with lemon grass and mint leaves. I usually do it like you with the cardamom and ginger, but now I throw in a couple fresh mint leaves too. Absolute game changer imo!
I followed your directions and added a little cinnamon and it was INCREDIBLE! I'm going to make this everyday.
Yesssss
I drank buckets of masala chai when my husband and I visited India, it was fantastic!! Coming back home I bought many brands of concentrates, some are quite good, but find that they’re all entirely too sweet. I love your recipe and that I can control the sugar amount!
So glad to hear that
Agree!
Really delicious love it make it all the time
I think concentrates cannot match up to making it with these simple ingredients. Is that possible where you’re at?
Chetna always has such wonderful, patient videos. I feel like I'm in a grandmother's kitchen learning the family way when I watch. Thank you!
Cut your long plant to the left of your stove and put the cut bit in water. When the roots form you can plant it in the same pot with the Mama plant to make it nice and full. Love this chai recipe, thank you!
Yes I keep cutting and now have 10 plants and this kitchen plant was a baby in the first place, might share all my indoor plants in a video sometime
I think the drapey look is elegant!
Maybe she likes it that way, that’s really rude you are here to watch masala chai not your views on her interior aesthetics
For me i do not want to cut it because it's stylist that way.😊✌🏼😎. Am a plant lover too.❤️
@@SS-bg6ht she spoke about how it was bothering her.
I’m incredibly jealous of your spice drawers!! That gets added to my must-have list for my dream kitchen 😊
Thank you for this chai masterclass.. very helpful!
I was cautious about boiling the tea leaves, but I followed your method and was surprised how good it turned out. Thank you.
Thank you so much for this video, Chetna! I've been wanting to make masala chai for a while and so this is my push to finally do so! I think I'm going to try and make it this weekend!
Thank you SO much! I've been drinking chai consistently for years now but have always been intimidated and intrigued to make it on my own. Something about using whole spices always seems like it requires a lot of skill - but this combined with a desi friend giving me his recommendations made it so much more approachable. I visited my local indian grocery store to get the whole spices (The spices were so much cheaper compared to at American grocery stores and so much more bang for your buck it's crazy) & ended up using whole peppercorns that I mashed with a makeshift mortar and pestle (a ceramic bowl and spoon handle), black cardamom, half a cinnamon stick & a few cloves. So happy I can finally stop buying chai concentrate and keep experimenting with making my own (-: Hopefully this helps any one who also has been apprehensive to make it from scratch
I love the base layers you're including. We definitely add 3 peppercorns (match the clove content for warmth) and I crush about a quarter or half stick of cinnamon. Otherwise, we pretty much have an identical recipe and method. Always let people sweeten their chai to their preference. Love it!
yes sugar to taste is best
Made the tea same as yours finally am able to make the best tea.
How timely! I was thinking a couple days ago I would like to see a real chai being made. Hooray for Chetna! Looks great
I had proper chai made for me many moons ago and have never tasted anything so delicious since. Now I know how to make it so will treat myself tomorrow. Thank you for sharing x
I've been drinking chai with the same ingredients you used for years but following your method was a game changer. Just by changing the steps, boiling the spices first made one of the best chai I've ever made and had. WOW...never going back to any other method, found my cooking channel on CZcams. Keep doing these awesome videos Chetna. ❤️❤️🙏
WOW! This is identical to how my mom makes it who in my opinion makes the BEST tea in the world :). We recently switched from using dairy to oatly's oat milk for health reasons and now prefer it with oat milk. Fantastic video and explanation!
I'm going to try it your mum's way too-- with the use of oat milk as well. Thanks Akshaya! If it's good enough for your mum, it's good enough for me. 😄
Oat milk sounds like a great idea! Wtf! Imma mix my oat drink with masala chai!
Oh, I've been thinking of switching to oat Mike because of my lactose issues. Nice to know the favors still work for people using other milks. Will give it a try soon!
Oatly is my favorite but the best alternatives are also 365 oatmilk and Elmshurst oatmilk in my opinion. I do not like any other brand I've tried so far.
Agreed! I don’t use dairy at all and agree that oat milk works perfectly! ✌🏽☘️
This is excellent! I just made it right for the first time and it was delicious, thank you for the video.
Making this right now. Thank you Chetna!! You’ve been an inspiration and comfort for me in these last six months since I’ve started watching your channel. You’ve season my life richly. Thank you!!
The way you aesthetically presented everything and the whole energy and vibes 🤌✨️ lovely! Randomly found your video today and I'm glad I did
Thank you Chetna. I'm experimenting with warming comfort foods this coming autumn and winter here in England and have never made this kind of chai at home, for shame! I will follow your recipe and when feeling bold, also tackle the recipe I have for homemade crumpets. Much exciting but simple activity in my home this winter! 😊🍵
I'm so happy I found this recipe. Thank you so much!
Love this recipe!
thank you for the recipe! it turned out great :) for my spices, i used star anise, cardamom, whole cloves, and cinnamon stick
Chopping the plants actually will help them send up new growth. Chop it, stick it in water until it grows new roots and then plant it back in the same pot. It will be much fuller and happier 🥰 Thanks for the Chai tutorial 💕💯
Thanks for the tips!
This recipe is amazing!!! My second time making it! I added the cinnamon and pepper and I drink it cold is perfect! Thank you!
Absolutely DELICIOUS! I have only one percent milk at home and it still tasted Delicious! Thank you! 🙏🏼
I have my first cup of steaming chai in front of me now. It's absolutely delicious! Thank you for sharing this technique.
Awesome!
I lived in Assam for a few years and made it this way with cinnamon added. For a while I've been using ginger powder as a shortcut. You inspired me to use fresh ginger again and it makes a world of difference. Thanks, Chetna!☕️💕
For times you need a little shortcut without compromising as much as with powder Dorot makes frozen chopped ginger in little cubes.
I love the way you have organised and the choice of your kitchen drawers display, wooden cutting boards and different cutting knives
Thank you! love this video cant wait to try to make my own.
Great presentation and your spice drawer is top notch. Thanks for the tips on making tea. It is on my list to replicate this weekend!
Today, I tried your Masala Chai recipe in the morning, and I was truly blown away by the taste of it. I tasted many other "exotic" recipes from internet for this delicacy but didn't get good results. Yours one was simple yet delicious. The chai actually tasted like chai because of the lesser amount of milk and hard liquor, not like some milkshake. Thanks 🎉
Yeah thanks
@afnanfaiyaz9736, what do you mean by hard liquor? Cheers!
Thank you for this, easiest way I have seen it described. I feel like I can finally jump in!
❤ Love this so much! Thank you!
Thank you Dear Chetna! My husband is Pakistani and I have been making chai exactly like you (same spices and not mixing milk until water boils) but it's always hit or miss. Sometimes I achieve great depth of flavor and other times it's flat. You've shown me what I may be doing wrong! I'm trying your techniques this afternoon! Thank you again!
Loved the recipe! So simple and well explained.
Thank you
Thank you for simplifying this recipe 🫵🏼🙏
I went to India so many times. Your historical sites are great! I love Masala chai and never forget to ask for this special tea everyday during my trip to India. Thanks for sharing your recipe.
I like the recipe and omg fell in love with how organized you are with the spices. I think I’ll do the same in my kitchen now :) also love your hair style too
Thanks Fatima
Must be great with almonds milk! Thank you for this beautiful recipe and video. Blessings 🙏
The aroma of tea seems mesmerizing.
Hello Chetna.Thank you so much for this tip. I have been making my Masala tea tea :) very boringly until I cooked it this way. It's rrrreally delicious!
It's cold damp & rainy where I am so I decided not to put off trying this & just made it. It is lovely, thank you.
Wonderful!
Great video Chetna as always. I loved when you were insistent, in a very polite way, about what we should call chai - got it and thanks again.
Thanks
@@FoodwithChetna some restaurants near me have gotten so used to English speakers doubling the name, that when one orders masala chai, they look confused and ask “chai tea?”
My daughter taught me not to say chai tea. Also, naan bread. My son-in-law just smiles and says it doesn't really matter lol
For me it's the same when someone says hot water heater. If the water is already hot it dont need to be heated . It's a water heater. Anyway I digress.
I first had chai when I was deployed to Iraq the first few timeS and have loved it ever since. Those Iraqis made some really good chai! I'd love to try your way.
I recently went to India and drank so much masala chai, each one a bit different from the others. I learned that getting it really piping hot must be key. Very much looking forward to trying your recipe.
This looks fantastic! I will definitely make this. Thank you. ❤
So glad you pointed out that "chai tea" is tortology. Like "naan bread"! And hey, as others have said, just keep trimming the plants, leaving them in water to root or adding them straight to the pots - the cuttings will root. Best wishes from Australia
This is great, thanks! You’ve inspired me to have a proper go w whole spices & my pestle & mortar (which I never use 😅) but I also make a lazy caffeine-free version w rooibos or dandelion tea, almond milk, & ground spices - often cloves, cinnamon & turmeric. Today you inspired me to add ground cardamom & ginger!
Wonderful!
What a beautiful video! Lovely recipe, beautiful kitchen and a great personality .. ❤
I tried and it was delicious!!
Thaaaaaank you so much lovely Chetna for your amazing recipes !!!!!
My pleasure 😊
love it I hardly ever add ginger but I think it makes it healthy and also reduces bloating.
Enjoy
Wow so well presented. Going to try this now. Thank you.
🙏 Namaste! I love your energy!! Thanks for the lesson! 🤩
I had my first chai latte last week in a lovely cafe and wow, loved it. Where have I been not to have had this before. 😊
Errr that’s not authentic chai at all if it’s called chai latte ! Maybe try it at an Indian restaurant instead
Glad you liked it Terry, but if you had a chai latte in coffee chain like Starbucks, it's not like chai.
You are so amazing - thank you for making these recipes so approachable. I am a piano teacher, & my clients often make me the most delicious masala chai. I am a loyal & fussy coffee drinker, but this is the most delicious & comforting beverage. I love it! Thank you!
You are very welcome
I love ur spice drawers!
I had my first cup of Masala Chai today . . . .oh my gosh! Delicious! I've been missing out! This will be a staple in my home from now on. Thank you for the recipe.
I always add milk and water together and then make my chai , the only reason being I don’t enjoy watery tea 😀 I would love to try your way.
Thank you for this lovely tutorial, Chetna! It's a cool reading day after hour summer, so following along!
Years ago one of my housemates at a mountain retreat center was a chef, and he'd often make us fresh Chai at home! It was so wonderful to smell as it simmered, and Emily and I loved it!
The herbalist Rosemary Gladstar adds herbs from Aureveda for 'longevity chai' - I added a pinch of Ashwaganda, stat Anise, turmeric and cinnamon, and a wee Thai hot pepper!
Fantastic
Thank you very much! Keep up the good work! ❤ happy new year 🎉
Thank you. Just what I needed today.
Looks gorgeous, love your recipes and chats, many blessings 😍
Thanks so much 😊
@@FoodwithChetna just made it, is a little chilled here in Ireland and I am sipping it this minute! Don't know if I will go back to my ordinary tea!! Thank you 😍
@@ailishadoyle4660 Hello how’re you doing?
I like adding half of star anise to my chai along with the spices that you used - adds a nice touch.
But I bet yours tastes just as good ☕️
Sounds great!
My most favorite kind of tea 😋
i am so happy to have found you here on youtube! you were absolutely my fav in the show. thank you for your gift!
Yayyy!! This is exactly how I make my tea…❤
yeah
I absolutely love your spice drawer 😍😍
Thanks
Today I just made my first ever chai in my life following your instructions and it is just so good. Although it is hot but I can’t stop drinking. I add sweetness with honey though. Thank you very much!
Beautiful cups
Mmmm, looks delicious! Will be trying this masala chai soon!!
Hope you enjoy
I learned how to make chai from my roomate who learned from her sister in law Savitri (fantastic cook). Savitri made it with cinnamon as well. I am keen to try your recipe, looks divine! Chai with samosa or onion & chili pakoli great snack!
Yes thats a great combination
thank you :) you have a very warm personality
You have given me a new perspective of Tea making thank you...
That cup of chai looks so good 😍
Normally when I take 2 cups of tea it’s boils down to one 😂 how u managed to still get two full cup of tea😍
Wow, cant wait to enjoy a cup of *T E A T E A*
I visited my Indian friend and this is the tea that she prepared, fell in love with it! Im making it at home every morning specially in winter.
Yeah
Thank you for clarity. Looks very tasty
I’m always buying the packet masala chai Chetna. My family will love this recipe. Looking forward to trying it. Thank you as always for sharing ❤
Hope you and your family will enjoy it
Stop! It’s far to expensive make it yourself easy peasy
Dear CHETNA I love your recipes because I think you have a natural knack for delicious cooking . The recipes you create are logical, have layers of flavour, and are distinct from recipes with the same or similar name done by some other UTuber. I am delighted to see your Mashallah magical rise to stardom and the obvious respect other chefs have for you - a very major achievement in such a competitive industry!
Wishing you continued success and great happiness a

Thank you and keep up the great work. I will definitely enjoy watching your lovely TV shows. I send you my

Thank you so much for such lovely words!
Thanks for satiating my curiosity! I've only ever had Chai latte mix so it was really interesting seeing someone make it from scratch.
I cannot wait to try this. I bought some chai from the grocery store and it is not it. Idk what authentic Chai tastes like but it doesn't seem to have enough flavor depth.
I love how you tall about the variations in a way of not putting others down. It's a small difference between you and many other content creators and I love how positive it is.
*Note to self: Add plants to the kitchen.
I can't wait to try this!!
enjoy
Haven't been drinking tea or coffee for a long time. But this is such an inspiring video that made me decide to have a cup of masala chai this evening. Thanks so much!
Hope you will enjoy this
Tried it, used honey, loved it. Thank you.
Thank you for this video. Great instruction. I will be making Chai soon.
I’ve just made this recipe 🫖🙀OMG SOOOOO DELICIOUS 😋 thank you
Thanks
About your plants; they thrive on being cut back. An alternative is 'pinning' them up, so the 'branches' flourish and grow outward. The one that you say you've cut back numerous times is looking a little 'leggy' and might benefit from either a larger container and fresh soil, or much more sunlight and less frequent waterings. Or a hardy trimming. 🙂 Going to drink some Chai, now❣️ Thx❣️
Hope you enjoy the chai
Thanks for your video instructions for masala chai! I can't wait to buy the ingredients and try it out tomorrow!
I will try this on a cold day!
my daughter started making vegan masala chai, and it's amazing! I really like what you have done with your spice storage, It's very tidy.
Thanks
Which non dairy milk does she use. I’d think oat milk is the best alternative because the texture is thicker.
Hehehe! Thank you! "...chai means tea!" So happy you pointed this out. My sweetie points this out regularly...every time we see or hear it. I LOVE that you brought this up. Hahaha...and...I was wondering when or if you were going to add sugar. You are lovely. Thank you for bringing me a smile today. I would love to perfect a nice masala chai for friends, family and my sweetie. this is great guidance.
Thanks Carly
Wow, wow, wow!! It’s delicious!! Thank you 🌷
The color of the chai is incredible.
i have been trying to make the perfect chai someday! though i love saffron tea with roasted cardamom! Tastes amazing ! But i will try this for sure.thanks Chetna! subscribed !
Welcome to the channel
Oh my God! I have been making "Chai" for over 10 years and not until now did I learn I was making it wrong!
It was so much richer and better when I followed your instruction! And I didn't burn any milk in the process! Thank you!
YEAH, so glad to hear that
wow, really like how you keep it just so easy!
Terrific! Thanks a lot. It is so inspiring to watch your videos.
