- Fixing up an old Stanley 10 1/2 Carrige makers rabbet plane. I used citric acid to remove the rust. The sole and sides were flattened using sandpaper on a glass plate.

Great little planes. I've just finished rescuing one that was bent. We heated it up and straightened it out.
Did not know that was possible with cast iron. I will try that with another plane I have.
Beautiful. I have a similar plane, in need of cleaning/restoration, scheduled for delivery in a few days. You video here is a perfect guide on what I will need to do. Many thanks.
Lo bueno, si breve, dos veces bueno. Takk
Very nice. Thanks for the music also
Need longer video with explanation
I have some more old planes.. Next video will be more informative:-)
nice job, well worth it
Thanks :-)
Nice work
Thank you!
impressive!
Thanks! :-)
Wow, that looks great! Did you redo the Japanning?
Thanks! No, the japanning was pretty good. I thought I might try that on another plane that is more damaged. Not sure how hard it is.
What type of coating is applied to the woodwork? Is it a one-coat varnish stair, or some other product? Great result, however, I must try that on my 10/1/2.
Hello, I think I used shellac and some wax
Very nice. What's the liquid you poured over the parts for scrubbing, white vinegar or something else?
Thanks! I used citric acid (the powder kind that is used for baking) mixed with warm water.
Any idea what year your carriage plane was made? Thanks
Not sure, but I think it might be from the 50’s I am sure it is possible to date it based on the casting, handle shape etc.
