Hand cut dovetails wood box!
zhlédnutí 54KPřed 6 měsíci
A simple little dovetailed pencil case made from birch firewood using hand tools only. It has a sliding lid and hand cut dovetails. I rive the logs using a Froe (from Lie Nielsen). I use a variety of hand planes to dress the pieces to an even thickness. When rived, the grain stays parallel to the sides, making it very easy to plane in any direction. I use a shop made shooting board with a Verit...

Using a sharp chisel on a piece of birch produces some surprisingly cool shavings when hitting the wood fibers at just the right angle.
I made a wooden box from firewood with hand tools only

A simple little dovetailed box made from birch firewood. I use a scrubplane and a jackplane to flatten one side of, before riving off a plank using a chisel. Since the pieces are short, the jackplane is used to square up the sides. I was lucky to find som really straight pieces with very even grain. When rived, the grain stays parallel to the sides, making it very easy to plane in any direction...
A simple jig for precise dovetails using hand tools

A simple shop made appliance to make it easier to transfer the tails to the pinboard when cutting dovetails. This is based on Rob Cosman's technique for using a saw blade to transfer the tails. He has some great videos demonstrating this. This appliance helps with getting the offsets right. It is designed so that the tail board is offset to the left in relation to the pinboard when transferring...
Stanley No. 10 1/2 rabbet plane restoration

Fixing up an old Stanley 10 1/2 Carrige makers rabbet plane. I used citric acid to remove the rust. The sole and sides were flattened using sandpaper on a glass plate. Music: Acid Trumpet by Kevin MacLeod incompetech.filmmusic.io/song/3340-acid-trumpet License: filmmusic.io/standard-license
EWT depth stop

Since I am not very good at woodturning, I need a little help turning consistent thickness spindles. So I decided to make a depth stop for the Easy Wood Tools rougher.

Great little planes. I've just finished rescuing one that was bent. We heated it up and straightened it out.
Vil du ha et puslespill av et gammelt eikefat fra Vinmonopolet og bryne deg på? Ligger i biter og mangler bunn og metallbåndene som holder tænna sammen, men det fikser du, Schnekkern? :-)
He he, det hadde jo vært gøy, men verkstedet mitt er bare såvidt større enn et sånt fat, så det blir vanskelig. Men takk for tilbudet :-)
Wow, ASMR for woodworkers!!!!!!
So beautiful !
Thank you!
Great work!!!!Antique piece!!!!It looks pretty when section is thin but u lose strength as u reduce material, whether metal or wood. It was pleasure to watch !!!!Thanku.
Thank you 😊
Das ist ja schon ein Kunstwerk zum Arbeiten zu schade - mehr als Aufstellung Stück 😊⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️👍
Looks awesome! I think it'd be perfect for adjusting my Kanna plane. Great work man.
Thank you!
Nice 👍
Thanks 😊
The hammer is cool. Nice work dude 👏👏
Thank you very much 😊
Excellent!
Thank you very much 😃
mzuri sana!
Asante sana, bwana!
Very nice! I see that you also like shiny golden things.
Pretty!
Thanks 😃
Excellent craftmanship👌
Thank you very much 😊
Im just learning to cut dovetails. Very interesting way of marking the tail boards with the saw. Never seen this done before. And I have not seen anyone chisel out the waste with boards stacked and offset from one another in this manner. Not just the skill involved but the imaginative way this box was made is very impressive and informative. Some people are amazing.
Thank you so much! I got the idea to mark the pins with a saw from Rob Cosman. I think the stacking of the boards was something I picked up from Chris Becksvoort or Frank Klausz.
I made similar with woodprix instructions :)
Thank you for posting. You possess great skills. I was wondering if you could show how you made your shooting board? It looks like an excellent build. Thanks again.
Thank you! And thank you for watching! I might make a video, but it is really simple. Just 2 pieces of plywood on top of each other and a hardwoid ”rail“ to ”capture“ the plane. If I were to make it again, I think I might just buy a kit from Veritas that includes rails and a fence.
@@Schnekkern thanks for the quick response and advice
What was that tool you were using as a jointer? Presumably it's a jointer, but what type?
Tou probably mean the Shooting plane that is used to square up the edges of the boards? It is a Veritas shooting plane. Not as beautiful as the Lie Nielsen version, but a very good tool!
Thank you for the beautiful video. Most inspiring for a novice woodworker . Would you be able to inform me of the marking device used at 1:45 in the film sequence? Peter L🌱
Thank you for taking the time to watch ! These are Veritas Dovetail Saddle Markers. They come in two versions: 1:6 and 1:8. I think the more pronounced 1:6 is intended for softer woods. Anyway, they just give me a good angle for the dovetails.
Прекрасно только дно всё портит. Такое ощущение что мастер устал и дно решил просто приклеить.
What's the music playing in the second half of the video?
Probably something from the standard CZcams sound library. I think Kevin MacLeod

Another great box build. Please sharpen my chisels and planes!
Thank you 😊 Still not satisfied with my own sharpening technique, but it is getting better!
