Agreed
Lol 👍
Best comment ever! #stayhumble
Respect the people that love what they do, and love to share what they do
Same, but tbh I hate most the cunts I know
This is a very mature demonstration. No part of this is condescending or insultingly redundant. So well done. This is how real guitar players talk to each other. Much love and respect, brother.

how he switched from swing to straight was really impressive but I guess most teachers can do that!
@@XCILE625 Yea, that's a critical thing to be able to hear and feel and play with this music, but it's with any really good groove music that has a deep pocket. You'll get it!
100%. Got into a lot of Reggae and Reggae fusion style artists and they've heavily influenced my playing. It's so much in the feel. I played for so long before really understanding what that meant. The second you feel it, thats it. You can't unfeel it.
Very true. I know so many guitarists with amazing gear that play too rigid and rushed and nothing has any feel or hook to it. Most of them tend to shred or be frantic.
This is one of the best lessons I've seen of any genre, informed and too the point. Blessings

Tuff opens with a blues lick.
Stan Lindert -cool you know blues sound...i grew up in mississippi....i know too....before rock n roll
reggae can be blues too. bob marley had the blues on many tracks
Reggae is American soul with Jamaican ska/ mento slowed down
All based around the blues scale which almost all western pop music uses
It all goes hand I hand They all share the same characteristics just different swing , accents and inflections to make each genre its own.
Blues, soul , funk , reggae , jazz. All share similar themes from time to time and groove ability.
All very different but utilize same construction materials and building blocks at some point
oh yeah . Talkin' Blues album notably
Stan Lindert because blues is the mother of all
And that's why reggae music is the soul and the heart and rhythm.

As a student at a music college (and someone who has been playing for 35 years), I wish more people taught like this. This is the most right on, prefect lesson I’ve ever seen. Listening to him one can tell the he is extremely knowledgeable in theory, and music in general, and his way of explaining is what most music teachers strive for. Well done my friend. Absolutely fantastic!

Bless Mike! I deeply apprecialove your candid comment on this offering! I only "try" to be for others the One that I needed to learn...It's all about interpretation of information and I know that being clear and plain spoken has a value in communications.... Heart a Love!
@@tufflion6300 you are so articulate Tuff. Thank you for sharing your wisdom and experience Brother. Best teacher ever.
Bless All! Just to "touch" on the subject of amp settings... I suggest that the cleanest possible setting be found from your amp with "Treble" being the highest of a 3 band eq range. For example on some "Fender" tube amps, I typically use this formula "7-5-4". 7 Treble, 5 Mids, 4 Bass. Add a "pinch" of reverb for taste and if your amp has a "presence" feature, to use that above the half setting... Some comments posted by observers are totally "wrong" and misleading. In a two humbucking type of instrument, I use the middle position for most rhythm parts as it gives a fair balance of lows (percussion), and highs (chime)! More is coming! Please be patient and watchful. Endless thanks to you all!

To 69 Supafly: If you know that your 24/7 dedication and drive, will deliver the dollar and the dream, I would delve into this wholeheartedly. However, there is no guarantee, even if there were eight days a week. To make money from music should be the main motivation. Why be very good at your instrument when a dunderhead rapper is wrapping himself around his gold and his girl?
You can never learn enough
I like this guy, he has the style
I agree Charles Manson

As a little youth in the Caribbean back in the 70s, reggae, calypso, soca, and American soul music was my background soundtrack, and Jimmy Cliff reigned on the airwaves! Having said that, Tuff has the best and most authentic reggae riddim guitar instruction on the web, and I've looked! That chop can cut down a giant sequoia tree! Nuff respect! More time!

He makes it look (and sound) soo easy....What feel, what a tone..
Totally agree, man, that tone is amazing.
***** Hoping that "One Day" the stigma of inferiority will totally pass away from the marketplace of the guitar world for Ones to find the excellence in craftsmanship of instruments made in "The land of the rising Sun", Nippon, Japan... I for one can acknowledge and apprecialove the detail and attention put forward in the design and construction of these quality instruments... wish I could get an endorsement from Hoshino Gakki...that would be simply lovely...meanwhile, I will continue to play something that I can afford and that both sounds and feels good!
I think we forget that our guitar heroes played lower quality stuff than we have now and they sound amazing...its not about the gear, but the hands that command it. Like a tiny island with a BIG influence on the world... its all about how you use what you have.
Ulrich Peise it is you just have to feel it and not think about it

I’m at the literal start of an evolution into…calmer?…music than the heavy metal I’ve been “on” for fifty years. First it was jazz. I’m lovin’ this too. Thank you!
@tonyjones1560. Perhaps there is something to be said about the passage of time in our lives... I release an instrumental album some years ago named "Ten Stings"... I think that release will reveal more about the potentials of the instrument inside of the music! Thanks for the touch! Bless!
I have played classical guitar my whole life very seriously. I have also listened to reggae music very seriously my whole life. I am rather amazed by what I didn't know about playing reggae guitar, even though reggae has been the soundtrack of my youth! Tuff Lion is clearly a man who loves this music and makes it speak. He has taken the beautiful essence of this music and made us feel it with him. Long Live Reggae!!!
Blessed Love Abdul Razak Harum! Thanks so much for the clear observations made in your post. Yes, I honestly and sincerely love the music and making it come to life with Ones who have a similar passion. In those collective moments of creation, all give their best to make something meaningful and lasting... I want to put forth the best that the music is unto Man, and I apprecialove knowing that there are Ones who simply "get it" like yourself!
Tuff Lion Thanks Tuff!!! I grew up listening to reggae and I became really sad in the eighties when the music became "digitized" and was played on "phony" instruments. I am still waiting for reggae to experience a full recovery from that awful time. Now, I only listen to the real thing. Your video really is great and educational and I can see why it has so many views. Keep it up bro!
Abdul Razak Harun Salaam Abul! I too lived through the digital era of the music and many musicians suffered from lack of work during that same period. Time is full of cycles and I have to say that I give thanks for not "caving in" to trends on fashions. Playing guitar in almost all of it's forms has been one of the most rewarding and enjoyable facets of life for Man on this earth and no matter what, I was (and still am) determined to become the player that I know with work, I can be. I Raspect the power of Roots Reggae and that is why I take the simple art of playing "riddim guitar" so seriously... Thanks for your thoughts and expressions in this regard...I really apprecialove knowing that this offering has had an impact on the community. Perfect Love!
"The bang, skank, chop etc."
A good music teacher doesn't just teach you how to play the style. They teach you about the culture behind it and the people it comes from. And that's all that section of the lesson was about.
The good instrument teachers also teach you history through music.

Wow , your a great teacher ! Clearly breaking down and explaining the fundamentals of reggae rhythm guitar 🎸. Thank You for this video. Btw I love the sound of the hollow body Ibanez , and because George Benson plays one too ! 😊☝🏻
Probably one of the most practical and efficient tutorial videos I have ever watched. I learned so much to dig into the Reggae genre. This man is a true master.
It is painting a picture , iv played reggae keyboard , and guitar for 45 years. Played with Eric donneldson, Winston groovy. And you know your stuff great thank you
Big Raspect and love to the one and the only Tuff Lion! That opening lick brings me back to the Ras Mek Peace album and his intro to Banking in the Pig!!! I have had the incredible honor to meet and play with this musical legend when he was on tour with Bambu Station and with the Talkin Roots tours out in California in 2005-2008. Bless up!
@dos_mas_805 Hail Beloved! Even after time has passed, it still lifts Man spirits to know that the works throughout the years have been witnessed by the massive on some level! Give thanks for taking the time needed to offer Yur impressions that are based upon the works done onstage and in studio. Although my services spans longer than 20 years, it appears that it has taken that long for the works to reach the massive, especially in the "Guitar" world. No matter as I have fulljoyed the journey without the headaches of fame and fortune. My riches are in the love and respect that comes from within the community who love the music as much as I do! Full Bless & More Thanks!
When he changes the time feel from straight to swing, made all the difference. Great lesson. He's a master
I never heard about flat wound strings ! All these years watching videos ! Reggae rule the world !!
Reggae does RULE the world! Thanks Ryk Son.
You know this is a good guitar lesson when you start singing while listening to it!
just from the thumbnail, i knew he was gonna be great.
It's just a gray background now...
I came to learn but I now want to know what you saw.
Sounds racialist to me

So happy to have found this lesson. Thank you. And you are an inspiration: you exude positive energy!
Warm greetings Stuart Jones! Thanks for the acknowledgement and embrace! It's important to "be an example" to others that they may see some possibilities in life and that is the aim and the goal in all of this...to inspire! I just discovered your post today and it has truly helped lift my spirits and determination to complete the series of videos as soon as they are properly edited! Please know that works are on the way! One Love!
Thank you so much for the lesson, Mr. Tuff Lion. Blessings !!!
Uma aula pra vida toda.Meu respeito e agradecimento.
Love it! So spot on. The sound, the feel. Perfect. Like turning all the other faders down on every roots track you can think of. Plus he breaks it down and explains it well. Guitarists - please watch and listen to this (and tons of reggae tracks, more importantly) before you attempt reggae, because bad reggae guitar sounds _bad._
@scubapig. Bruh! That's a very powerful endorsement and very warmly felt! I hope that this offering will serve as a baseline for what really happens with guitar inside of the music! Every music has levels and this could very well become a new standard of sorts... I humbly submit the number of views and comments like this that magnify the music and the instrument! Everything for a better world! More is coming swiftly! Give thanks & Bless!
9 years later, this is likely one of the best instructional videos i've ever seen. thank you!
best reggae guitar lesson on the web hands down !
What Tuff Lion is playing and the way he discussing what he is playing is beautiful and important. Thank you for this fine video.
greatest video of all time in my opinion i’m going to study this as a guitar player and use this knowledge my whole life
Thank you! Check it out, soon, within a couple of weeks, we are launching a complete 12 lesson course taught by Tuff on www.artofreggae.com !!
Fantastic lesson. Straight to the point and super helpful. Blessings.
Tbf like a lot of styles it's down to listening and applying the techniques. He explains it all brilliantly. Good job and great feel. Makes me realise the detail to the rhythms. I'm an eclectic guitarist who can play most things but it's important to me to be as authentic whenever possible to get the feeling. So thank you
@dimitrigodhead1969. Such a big difference between being inside looking out &. outside looking in... If the music is not native to anyone, then in order to overstand it, One has to step forward with humility to "learn" how to participate! I just try to open the door for guitarists and musicians to enter into a realm of knowing how good the music can be! Bless and thanks for the comment!
What an excellent tutorial/primer on the reggae guitar. This man really knows his instrument. Bravo!
I loved it! I've played guitar for awhile but never tried learning raggae.
I'm going to start learning a little about it. Thanks
For anyone looking to widen your skills this is an excellent intro into reggae. Everything is perfectly said and explained
Give thanks David! I tried to be clear enough to get the information out there! More to come! Bless!

@adityanegi7128 Thanks for the comment! I fully real-eyez how valuable this offering is and has been to many! Still very humbling but something to feel good about because of the "flowers" I receive from comments like this! More works are coming soon! Bless
You learn to play guitar all your life,,,,,this man was so easy about his skills..I’m a country boy...but I appreciate mastery..when I come upon it,,,,and bow to the teacher,,,,hopefully I will acquire a few of the simplest chops,,,and go on from there,,,I couldn’t ask for a better teacher.
Greetings Richard! First, this is NOT Tuff Lion responding. This is Matt Jenson [Art of Reggae], the person who produced this video with my musical brethren Tuff. Wow! Thanks! Yes indeed, when you see mastery, it's made simple but when you try it, it takes some practice, if not a lifetime of experience. But personal experience is what you put into it to make it your own. Look for more masterful lessons on Art of Reggae, soon come in April!

Amazing lesson, one that should take a lifetime to absorb and explore. Tuff Lion's feel, my gosh, it is epic. As a player, I thank you, for once again showing that the art of rhythm guitar is as important (if not more so) than lead guitar playing.

@matthewrussell1044. Funny also that many dont recognize that the riddim guitsy plays 10x more than the lead player! Thanks for not under-rating the position! That's why I feel that to become a good, solid, confident and dependable riddim is an important ingredient in the full development as a Guitarist! Heart a Love! Bless!
Excellent! There really is so much inside MOBO music which reaches in to your heart and soul and makes them dance together.

KRONOSFPV funny you say that! I play rock mainly and always believed it was about the up strokes!
Dude I can't believe that beautiful sound is coming from one guitar. You are awesome, and reading through the comments you seem like such an open and friendly soul as well. I'm a total beginner and could only dream of making a sound like that, but you have inspired me to keep on practising. Thanks for sharing, love and light.
+Emma Swan The pleasure to make this was indeed all mine but I do thank you for making time to check it out! Welcome to the art and craft of music! I hope that you will never become discouraged and accept that at times progress may seem slow but the journey is not for the swift, rather for Ones who have the patience to stick with it until that day! You will reach a level through deliberate, repetitive motions (practice)! The key to success is making time to focus your mind on one simple task and perfecting it. The "unapparent" side benefit is that this discipline will spill over into other areas of your life giving you a sense of fulfillment when you reach certain goals, like playing scales and Barre chords! Practice, practice, practice, does indeed make perfection! Cheers!
Thanks Great Encouragement for me also. May the Most High bless you for sharing your talent with the world.

the Ibanez Artist is one of the best axes out there. It is great for :rock, blues, jazz, R& B, Reggae, fusion. The sound is unbeatable, and the action is low and fast, unmatched...the neck plays like butter. The necks perfectly straight. Intonation dead on. Tuning is amazing and it stays in tune for ever. Beautiful craftsmanship, but the Japanese ones are the absolute best. This reggae musician dude is the bossman! Super nice guy and knows his craft. In case you own one in really good condition, do not let it go! These guitars are now considered just as rare, vintage and sought after as the older starts and Les Paul's, same league! These guitars appreciate, appreciate, appreciate! I bought mine in 1986 for $500. today it is worth $3,330. And they appreciate very fast, because 2 years ago the asking prices were around $1500 - $2,000
Luckily, I took great care of mine and it is mint - violin finish. Those are the most desired ones. Even if someone offered me $5,000 cash today I wouldn't sell it, because it appreciates exponentially, so it will be worth $10,000 in 10 years...mark my words. It's a nice little investment. It's a beautiful work of art. And the truth is, I much prefer the way it sounds, feels and plays than the Les Paul - many other guitarists feel that way too. It's so beautiful I can look at it all day!
@@George-rb6bv Maaan Yu said it all! I've been very happily satisfied with my whole experience with the brand and have quietly advocated for them as an un-official brand ambassador. The one thing that I really admire about the brand is that they really offer a complete suite of price points for the ascending quality of their catalog! There is something to be had for beginners and those with limited resources. Thanks for standing in solidarity with me on this! Full Bless!
What a fabulous video! You are a fantastic teacher, and a total legend. Many thanks Sir.
Beautiful. Simple and deep at the same time, just like so much great music.
