I kind of feel wired makes it more seamless and reliable, but I don’t like this set where the charging cable is crossing over where the shifter is. On my previous vehicle, the USB ports were located inside the center console, making for a cleaner appearance. I wish Toyota had done the same. Still love my Runner though.
Wired is definitely more reliable and audio quality is slightly better as well but this wireless adapter is still working great and keeps the cables away from the shifter. I agree, I wish Toyota picked a better spot for the usb port.
My is runner 2020 Toyota you think is work for my car or what carplay adapter you recommend to me ?
If your 4Runner has the same radio as the one in the video this adapter should work. If your 4Runner has the smaller non-touchscreen this will not work.
Do you know if it will work on a 2012 4Runner ?
I don’t believe so. Toyota didn’t start adding factory CarPlay until 2020. This adapter just turns the factory CarPlay to wireless.
Do the controls on your steering wheel still work with the adapter?
The controls still work. The adapter makes the car think the phone is connected via USB so all the functionality you have when it’s connected via USB is intact.
Does it auto connect when you get in and start the car?
It connects automatically each time I start the car. It is still working reliably.
Just bought a 2023. Salesman told me the Apple Car Play was wireless. Spent all night last night trying to figure out how to connect. Now stumbled onto this video. I guess now I know my new Toyota is not wireless afterall. :( And there is ZERO place to put your phone in this thing as you stated.
I’m not sure why Toyota is so resistant to wireless CarPlay. The good thing is a cheap adapter addresses the issue and as for a place to put your phone I’ve started putting it in an aftermarket tray I purchased for the center console.
Which one did you buy you did you tell us?
I mentioned it in the video but had to take my link down. The one I have in this video is the Carlin kit one. This was v3 which I don’t believe they offer anymore. In my other car I installed CPCGER one and it’s worked well. I’m not affiliated with either of those brands but they have both worked well.
