  • Get tools and replacement brake pads for your Honda Rancher 420 here. You’ll need to order TWO sets of brake pads to replace both the right and the left side. They are the same part number: bit.ly/Honda-Ra...
See how to change the brake pads on a Honda TRX 420 Rancher in this video from Partzilla.com. This is an easy job, and you’ll know it’s time to replace the pads on your Rancher when you notice a little fade in the brakes. As the pads wear, there is less material to dissipate heat, contributing to a loss of stopping power.
John will show you how to remove the tire, get the caliper removed from the unit, and then remove the brake pads. Then, we’ll get some replacement brake pads on our Honda Rancher, get the caliper back in place, and reinstall the wheel. The torque required for the lug nuts on this wheel is 47 foot-pounds.
When you’re done, be sure to pump the brake lever a couple of times to push the brake pads in a bit in the caliper. Otherwise, you might not have much braking the first time you pull the lever.

I would suggest to also put some anti-seize or grease on those guide pins when you re-insert them. The far end of them (the threaded end) is exposed and they will get debris and rust in there, and they can become VERY difficult to remove if they sit like that for years. I have stripped a few of the heads before and if you can't get the pins out, you have to buy a whole new caliper, which is $100-150 each.

Just want to say. I certainly enjoy your very informative videos. I have learned so much from watching you. I have started ordering my parts from you all. Your parts staff has really gone out of their way to make sure the orders are correct. My parts were also shipped the very next day, which I certainly appreciate. You guys have me as a customer from now on. Thank you.
