  • We’re back with more #TurboTalk, Area Diesel Service Inc’s Parts and Sales Manager Curtis Owens schools us with Turbo 101 - covering the what/why of a turbocharger and turbocharging.
    He covers the basics, the parts and materials of a turbocharger. Including the turbo’s turbine housing, compressor housing, bearing housing, oil inlet, oil outlet, backplate, turbine wheel, compressor wheel, inducer, exducer, bearings, thrust bearing, shaft, cartridge, center housing rotating assembly (CHRA), and the exhaust inlets and outlets. He also hits some key terms that are interchangeable in the industry regarding parts and measurable areas of a turbocharger.

    Greg from northern Michigan. Good explanation. You might want to talk about turbine/compressor wheel shaft speeds which can reach over 120,000 rpm. Theirfore rotating part balance and bearing/shaft diametral clearance are critical in these assemblies.
