I’m the brother in this story. When the technician found the problem, he said the wire was on RC instead of RH. Let’s see if that fixes it. I’m hopeful but skeptical. Now, SDGE rep said that both cold and heat were running all the time which was not the case, and that’s a lie. The furnace were not running all the time. It was automatically were getting on and off. They are trying to blame it on us instead of taking responsibility to take an action. We called them numerous times, and they were rude and unhelpful to us. If it wasn’t for the CBS crew we would not be heard. This issue is not only for us. There are numerous of people in San Diego suffering from the same issues. Something needs to be done here.
You arecorrect sir, they are just a crook company trying to make more money off the public since they area monopoly and there is no other company we could get service from, the politicians that are supposed to protect us from these monopolies only protect them so they can keep getting their pockets filled from these crooks at our expense
@My Other Car Is A DeLorean Really,I paiditfor my mom but I asked them if there was a discount program for people 65 and up and they told me she was already in it,I saw the kwh she used compared to lasperiod and it was literally 3 kwh more that made it a 43% price increase, that's highly unreasonable borderline criminal
Seems to me like something was just lost in translation from the technician to the marketing rep. While it still switched on/off automatically and you only heard it intermittently, I think when it was on, it was both heating and cooling, only stopping when one overpowered the other ultimately to reach the desired temperature. This, of course, is extremely inefficient. You should very easily be able to review bill history, kW vs gas usage, time of use, cost of delivery vs energy, etc to determine if there is correlation between the heating/cooling, letting you know if you're on the path to a lower bill.
That still doesn’t make their price hikes right,my widowed mother who lives alone was paying about 25 to 40 dollars for gas and electricity since her home doesn’t even have heating or air conditioning and this past month she got a 125 dollar bill, called SDG&E and they said they would send someone and when they came to check they just said everything was okay and it was probably her heating during the winter but I told them there is no heating or air conditioning and the technician said nothing wrong just pay up,wish we could go with a different power company
Assumes that these were really separate units (eg mini-split and a Gas Furnace). I would agree, a typical Furnace with the cooling coil should not allow both sections to fight as that uses a single logic board.
About 4 years ago my buddy I were living on a 2bd/2ba 1400 apartment at Avion complex on Spectrum/Kearny Mesa. For the most part our electricity bills averaged about $80/month. But then on hot days we would flip on ac for about 45 mins to cool the place down. Suddenly we were getting $200-400 SDGE bills. It made no sense. We suspect both SDGE was gouging and that the apartment complex was not doing maintenance on the AC unit.
I had a bill for $2600 after SDGE decided to finally read my meter last year.I have auto pay and paid every month the amount SDGE billed me.I caught them lying on the bills they resubmitted.I sent my finding to the PUC.SDGE knew they lied.I got my bill wiped out and a $500 credit…fight this monopoly
I had this issue last year with power being consumed overnight after we shut all our breakers off. Sdge said the meter was fine and the landlord wouldn't pay for an electrician to review. Have had to kick rocks and eat the bills ever since. One month it's $90, the next is $300 for 400sq ft
If that's the case you have an argument and the right to DEMAND and explanation as to why it's higher if nothing has changed. I 'm going to start monitoring the Kilowatts and make sure make sure I'm getting billed correctly because this is getting out of hand. This problem is growing bigger and bigger by the day.
On February 13 2022 CBS news 8 has another article about Sdge triple billing and the north county sandiego counsel is going to request an audit for Sdge including the commitional that has authored the billing
You mean neither of those two guys didn’t notice that the fan circulating the heat or ac never shut off? Or only shut off for a short period. Let’s have a look at his bills from one year ago. Unless he had work done to the ac/heater or thermostat the wires won’t change themself. Curious to hear from the owner now. Somebody needs to ask more questions.
#SDG&E is the new Scam company allow to Scam customers my bill went from $50 to $100 why do get charged deliveries fee's? I live on a 3 bedroom apartment
Too many people are having problems with their bills since the random increase. I think they made a mistake and should have just owned up to it. Who leaves anything on when they are away on vacation? Greed is never a good thing. This is how people, companies and such can fall.
I don’t understand CBS 8 not addressing the obvious question… Did the system rewire itself after they moved in? The video shows an incremental increase in billing. SDG&E’s explanation doesn’t address why their bill wasn’t that high consistently.
LOL. $1,000 bill must be some sort of joke. A few months ago, my bill was $1,200, and I have solar. Not doing crazy power consuming things. The bill takes a rocket scientist to read. It's not just 3 tiers of usage and a rate for each. More like, 12 different calculations in different directions, along with 6 components making up other pieces. WTF.
Doesn't make sense why the bill kept increasing month over month. You would think if it was miswired and that was the only problem , the bill would be high every month .
4:24 SDGE has EV-TOU, which requires a separately metered feed. If you have solar, this adds much complication as there's no way to switch between solar powered charging and EV-TOU metered charging.
That’s why you hire certified electricians. You could save a buck by hiring a union guy for a side gig but definitely don’t want to skimp on HVAC and Junction Box stuff
We bought the house last august. It came with this thermostat. Every month the bill started to increase gradually, how are we supposed to know it’s the wiring issue?

Came here for this it didn't make sense that you guys wouldn't notice that both were running all the time.
Dont pay it. Legally they cant shut your service off.

Right. The heat and a/c was running at the same time and the owners didn’t notice. What a crock of BS.
That doesn't make sense, the HVAC unit was simultaneously heating and cooling? Impossible
Assumes that these were really separate units (eg mini-split and a Gas Furnace). I would agree, a typical Furnace with the cooling coil should not allow both sections to fight as that uses a single logic board.
probably separate thermostats

I haven't seen a meter reader in the neighborhood for years.
My bill increased $100 in one month and absolutely nothing was different than the previous month

Doesn't make sense...... Why? Why wasn't it doing it sense he lived there. I'd expect every month to be $1k if the thermostat is not wired properly.
How many more homes could use such an audit?
Too many
Smells like SDGE is full of it. This is absurd and a $1,000 dollar bill shouldn’t even be possible
You mean neither of those two guys didn’t notice that the fan circulating the heat or ac never shut off? Or only shut off for a short period. Let’s have a look at his bills from one year ago. Said he had a Google Nest system, maybe its thermostat was the culprit
#SDG&E is the new Scam company allow to Scam customers my bill went from $50 to $100 why do get charged deliveries fee's? I live on a 3 bedroom apartment
Heat and Ac same time 🤣
Sdge employees are now wearing ski masks
And packing lube....
Who tf is wearing a ski mask here lmao
@@MindsetCCG 💤🙈
This is not resolved

One woman was on vacation for 6 weeks and her Sdge was triple?
@@vickyessay8899 That's crazy but these are the situations I'm hearing about. It's not right. God is watching. He does not like greed. 🙏
Miswired to the tune of 1k???
Uhhh....no, not buying this story.
ill never forget when my kids did that! hard to believe two grown men in that house let this happen?

Exactly and perfectly stated.

Did you figure out your high bill or it’s still unknown?

💯
One woman was on vacation for 6 weeks and her Sdge was triple
My Sdge bill was also triple included my neighbors in carlsbad California and I don't use heating every day, only few nights periodically
Sooo, if you use something non stop you get 1000 dollar bill?.....do little babies bring us electricity in the buckets here in san diego?
First month of mining Bitcoin is pretty rough, you get use to it
They gotta pay for the nuke mess on the beach somehow. AFTER making bank for 15 years redlining it the whole time.
