I love subtle hint that Bulma developed the medicine because she knew damn well that Goku would rather die than eat less bacon.
And yet she didn't account for not liking grape flavor
How could she possibly have accounted for him not liking a certain food?

The implication of not only Vegeta wearing his armor when he and Bulma had sex but also the fact that Bulma let him wear his armor in bed thinking it’s just a kink of his and she was into it XD
This also means he was training in his boxers, and put on his armor specifically to have sex with Bulma

I love how they give Yamcha shit about not telling anyone about the energy drain, yet Krillin was RIGHT THERE when he did say something.
You can tell Lani made wayyyyyy to many Yamcha jokes for no good season. You can see how much Scott regrets doing them. Yamcha doesn't deserve all this crap

I like to think the reason Piccolo eased so fast into becoming an ally was that he actually got to kill Goku, sure it was to save earth and Goku pretty much allowed him to do it, but it also helped him get over any residual need for revenge that King Piccolo left in him imo.
@@shawnsuckstm3353 “MUAHAHAHAHA! I’ve done it! I’ve killed Son Goku! My father’s revenge is complete! Now there’s no one to stop me from conquering Earth!”

“GOD this is boring! Dragon! Grant my wish! Bring back Son Goku!”
King Piccolo was a prick anyway.
I seem to recall a line from him where he mentions he was happy at first but then was unable to stay that way thinking someone who made such a noble sacrifice was dead.
@@JaelinBezelEEEEEEEEEHHH HEH!
Thinking about it, Trunks gave Goku a preventative medicine, not heart-attack treatment. It is quite possible that the reason Goku survived had nothing to do with the medicine and everything to do with Yamcha (in this timeline) being by his side and caring for him, as opposed to Chi-Chi and the rest of the gang ignoring him completely.
And therefore it loops back to Goku telling Yamcha him he's his friend, instilling in him a reason to live instead of hanging himself, and possibly motivating Yamcha to want to take care of Goku.
Yay time travel stuff.
You know, I'd never thought about it before, but even if that ISN'T the case...Yamcha's a real bro. Everyone else is at Kame House watching TV or sleeping, and Yamcha is literally right there, sometimes even holding his hand.
@@ChibiTailsholy crap you're right. How did I not realize that!? I've been a fan of DBZ since it's Toonami days and not once did I ever make that connection. We're all too busy seeing the buff dudes punching the bad guys that we forget all the little details outside of the fighting
Plus, Yamcha took a hit for the team when the cyborgs jumped him. Who would they have attacked first if he wasn't there?
And Yamcha stopped Gohan from taking Goku home and said he would do it. This allowed Gohan to stay with the gang and save Piccolo, when Gero sneak attacked him.
The mental health of your friends can save you
On recent rewatch I've noticed something a bit odd from Gohan here. When Yamcha first mentions that they need to warn the gang about the energy-drain, Gohan flies off _immediately_ to go warn them. Then when he arrives, he asks what they missed and then just...never explains. Yamcha's the first person to say it, and then everyone gets mad at him for not saying it sooner, but Gohan's culpable here too.
On a related note, I've always felt like, out of everyone agreeing that Yamcha would get in the way, Gohan's "no offense" is simultaneously the nicest and yet most damaging line of the bunch :P
Holy crap I never thought about it like that until Taka pointed it out just now. If Yamcha didn't survive finding out that Bulma had a kid with Vegeta, he wouldn't have been there at South City. Which _means_ one of the other team members might have been surprised by 19 and 20. _ALSO,_ Yamcha was around to give Goku the medecine probably more than anyone else, _because Goku said Yamcha was his friend._ He probably only survived the virus because of Yamcha.
Friggin *wild.*
Love Yamcha! I hate how Lani made all these horrible jokes about him. He over did it, and you can see in these videos Scott regrets them. DBZA really made casuals think Yamcha is trash. At least they gave him kinda a redemption by becoming a billionair
It doesn't really work as well as you'd think. In episode 34, and TFS's take on the History of Trunks movie, Goku had already been dead for a good six months before the androids showed up. Yamcha being alive wouldn't have mattered in saving him regardless.
I like to think Gero just calls all of his works Androids like it's a brand name. That or because he views them as little more than tools.
A brand name? Like dodge!
Maybe he just thinks of all people as mushy meat robots
@@dalleme5656 No I mean he’s dehumanizing 17 and 18 by calling them androids. Like they’re nothing but machines he made.
I mean it's only an english thing no? For French, they're all called cyborgs instead of android, and while outside of Gero and the siblings, they're actually Androids... Well eh.
I like how in DBZA we see Gero's progression in androids. In 13, 14, 15, and 16, he tried to program them himself but they all ended up buggy with undesirable personality quirks. Then he tried using real people with 17 and 18, but they kept trying to kill him. Then with 19 he just gave up and used an off the shelf killer android OS, which while loyal and without eccentricities, ended up being a worse fighter than any of the ones he programmed.
And by 20 he just went "fuck it, I'll do it myself"
Did gero work on android 8?

You do know he built them in the opposite order right?
@@travisporter5222wrong.
Goku legitimately cares about his friends and family. He's just too much of a punch-autist to show it in any way they'd recognize as caring.
I still legit think, both in canon and abridged, the time Goku and Gohan spent in the Hypersonic Lion Tamer was the happiest time of Goku's life.
This is about where I am too
"That one was on purpose!"
Yeah, he loves those around him and thinks they have to know it because he does. Not understanding, you need to back that up with action and affection.

Goku's genes and lack of early life socialization is not his fault and expecting him to fake it is asking too much.
Chichi tricked him into marrying her anyway, really all of the marriage problems are on her.
People can joke about Goku being a bad dad, but I don't think anyone can make a believable joke about him being a bad friend. The guy has Kingdom Hearts "my friends are my power"-level of trust and belief in his friends.

@@Not-an-Alien in actual canon, he actually saved his friends from frieza in the timeline where he doesnt show up, and his friends only died to the saiyans because goku busy being dead. when did he do this?
He's a playful dad, just one to stick his children to the fire too soon. Vegeta and Piccolo start out as more rough father figures, but Goku gets more flack by being unintentionally absent.
The best bits of Dragonball are peacetime moments, when Goku just hangs out with people and family. Super just gave Goku too much of the training itch, without an active threat to distract this urgency.
@@MSCDonkeyKong I think what happened in Trunks' timeline was Vegeta managed to hold off Frieza just long enough for Goku to land. That or Frieza took longer to get to earth and they landed about the same time.

Senzu Beans are canonically described as giving you the satiety of enough food for 10 days.
So I'd imagine it'd be one of the thickest, most meaty crunches you'd ever take. And probably taste like wheat grass, yes, but you'd feel SO FULL afterward.
Yeah, in Dragonball it was used to recover stamina, not heal from fatal wounds. Between DB and DBZ it just changed. That info was probably in the same section of Toriyama's brain that Launch was, hence why both were forgotten. 😅

Oddly enough, Goku responding to Piccolo responding to Nail kinda makes sense.
As we learned on Namek, Goku is telepathic and can read minds.
I just figured that Piccolo!Nail were broadcasting their conversation and Goku just kinda... picked up the frequency.
That....makes too much sense
which makes more sense when he just knews that kami is in there after they fuse - he even tries to give them a fusion name!
Honestly I thought it was a reference to nail being voiced by Sean schemmel (goku’s actor) in the English dub
@@mcnultygaming Good ol' Kamiccolo.

DBZA is FULL of amazing lines. I keep getting reminded of a new one every time I rewatch and watch reactions.
"On a scale of one to ten? My chest hurts..."
My Mum before she passed was a cyborg. She had metal skeleton reinforcements, a nerve disrupting battery and a morphine pump. Cyborg as far as I am concerned.
"I am no less a man than anyone with a pacemaker or hearing aid. For what is the marker of a man, but his interminable will." - The Major, Hellsing Ultimate Abridged
I feel like the "android" designation makes sense, both in that Gero intended them to be part of the Red Ribbon Army's line of military androids, and the fact that he only saw them as machines
It was a happy surprise when I eventually watched the Overlord dub and heard Guerrero as Ainz. But I spent the entite first season expecting him to go "NINETEEN!" to one of the denizens of Nazarick.
I was expecting "I'mma plant me a dumbass tree."
Right? First time he spoke as Ains I kept getting Deja-vu, till I realized it had hints of Maxwell and 20. That's when I realized who voiced Ains.
"Dad, you took the medicine, right?"
"Yeah...I mean, I started to"
"Started to- what? You mean you stopped? Why did you stop?!"
"Because it was Grape Flavored!"
I love that this has to be the reason why Goku didn't take the medicine fully
Something that I think that a lot of people really don't realize is that Goku did not grow up with a family. Bulma FOUND him LIVING IN THE MOUNTAINS when he was 12. The only other person he knew was Grandpa Gohan who had died several years earlier, I think when Goku was 4 (excusing whatever retcon has happened since DBZ). So he spent 8 of his first 12 years living alone, fending for himself. He had no concept of a family, what a dad should or should not be, because he's never seen it. And he's still there to save and protect his friends. He's there when they NEED him, not when they want him. In his mind, that's what he's supposed to do. If they're just fine and life is fine, they don't need him. If they're about to die and need him, he'll be there. If they're in danger but can make it out on their own, then they don't need him. He's not trying to be a terrible father, he just doesn't know any better. He grew up in the woods alone. What would any of our ideas of marriage and family be if we were in the same boat?
i don't think we ever get told how old he was when Grandpa Gohan died. but i think he was a bit older than 4 since he remembers his grandpa quite well.
but yeah this guy did not have a family for a huge part of his life.
@@ghoulchan7525and he was taught by Kami for a couple years before he fought piccolo at the tournament. And we can say Kami doesn’t exactly have a good concept of family, but he does with responsibility
Yeah ppl blow it up way out of proportion, he ain't a model father but he aint a shitty father either, man sacrificed himself for his son twice bruh
I think Dragon Ball really helped me understand Goku's character, he's a bit naive, he doesn't understand human culture that well but he's still unbelievably kind.
I might get some things wrong, haven't seen DB in awhile but he consistently befriends everybody if possible, Yamcha, Tien, Krillin, Namu, Eighter. Or when he chooses to wish back Bora, going on a rampage for revenge when Krillin dies (sorta because of him), refusing to kill Kami to take out Piccolo.

"After he found out that my mother was pregnant with Vegetas Child, he sort of ..." [ *Headset disconnects* ]
Fun fact:
In the ZeroMic italian redub of DBZA, Goku straight up says "I love you" to yamcha
I mean, Saiyans grow up in pods and then immediately go for training.
Saiyans do not usually spend very much time raising their kids.
With how senzu beans crunch when you chew them I always imagined them to be like pistachios
No they're just not cooked
All beans have a crunch if they are dried. Buy a bag of whatever ones you like, and just bite one in half before boiling any, you'll learn real quick.
I've got a bag of dried edamame, it's got a good crunch to it
Yajirobe says they taste like fish, and the texture is between a celery stalk and an uncooked or under-ripe lima bean.

The last thing Yamcha heard before Dr Gero Yamcha'd him was his sell-out Cat Loves Food song. Honestly I can't tell whether that fate was worse than the hanging joke.
Poor Yamcha, man
I wrote this one on the other commentary, but the "Yamcha, you're my friend" line meant a lot to me. I thought the Yamcha hanging himself joke was really funny, but putting that line in was a good idea and has hands down been my favorite anything in this series.
Yamcha deserves better

Goku and Piccolo being total bros and driving to "Move Bitch Get Out the Way" is one of my favorite DBZA jokes in the whole series.
The big difference is that in the original, Trunks told Goku to start taking the medicine when he started having symptoms, but his symptoms were delayed, possibly due to the training.
47:19 They also did this with J'onn (Martian Manhunter) in the same show, who is just as powerful as him but also psychic. They had to basically neutralize him regularly to avoid things being too easily, rendering him basically the Deanna Troi of the team a lot of the time.
Piccolo giving his life to save Gohan’s is really what made Goku drop any past issues dead in water. Piccolo gained a family through his first selfless act that cost him his life. He earned that Bro-Hood he has with Goku and i’m for it.
8:50 I heard from FourStarBento that the scene where Yamcha is hanging is cut short. Originally the scene went on another 5 seconds or so and you hear Puar say "Yamcha, can I stop being the rope now please?"
cannibalism is eating your own specie. Saiyan eating other alien lifeform is not cannibalism. Saiyan eating Saiyan would be, Saiyan eating Human would not be.
Doesn't change the fact that Saiyan eat anything...
Also when Goku slaps ChiChi through the wall and Gohan says "Run, the worse thing she can do is ground me" it just reminds me of Malcolm in the middle. the episode with the spider bit.
cannibalism can be as specific in definition as "only humans eating other humans", and might mean that in e.g. legal contexts. it's not unreasonable to extend that to "sapients eating sapients" in certain contexts
i think "sapiovore" or something along those lines works better.
@@chloejessica7961 that would imply they mostly eat sapient species.
@@Putnam3145 cannibalism is literaly a specie eating its own specie. doesn't matter if it's a dog, if the dog eat another dog it's cannibalism. Mantis are cannibals, spider can be, crocodile don't care and can (and will) eat other crocodile. Shark literaly eat their brothers and sisters before getting out the mother's womb.
A cat eating a lion is NOT cannibal... Unlike human, they are not the same specie.
Human consider black and white and yellow to be different specie and that's why YOU think Saiyan are "humans" and can't think they are not cannibals. Because you are unable to view human as a single specie and Saiyan are humanoids.
Eating monkey isn't cannibal (it's wrong, but not cannibalistic). Because if so, Frieeza eating Namekia is then the exact same as human eating human. Which is a wrong analogy because they both come from very different DNA composition from different source of lifeform. If frieza ate his father then yes, it would be cannibalistic.
On a side note, Namekia absorbing other Namekian... THAT I have some trouble. It's not exactly eating but... it is consuming. it's a weird concept.
anyway, final note, humanoids eating humanoids is not cannibalistic. the key factor here is if it is the same specie or not. Human eating Human is cannibalistic, regardless of the skin color... but eating monkey isn't. not matter how close of a specie we are, we remain different.
...I'm still puzzled for Namekian... I'll need to think about this.
@@chloejessica7961 that term doesn't exist, but it is easy to understand the meaning. I wonder if it will be added to the dictionnary at some point in the future. Maybe after we make actual factual alien contact and end up as food for them? or vice versa...
I'll accept that word. Should we put it as included with omnivore or separate?
The actual reason they choose not to murder Gero is because he technically hasn't done anything wrong yet, so Goku is giving him a chance to not be a murderous scumbag.
Of course, the sensible thing is just to send people to watch him so that the instant he tries making the Androids, they can stop him. They do not do this because plot.
Which is kind of dumb. One would think that if nothing actually changes on his end then it's going to lead to the exact same result. They could have at least found his place, broke all his stuff, say "we're watching you, nerd!" And left.
@@battlesheep2552that probaby would have speed up Gero's research... but yeah, would have been better than doing nothing.
Gero was the one who created the first set of Androids, one of which Goku met as a kid and freed. He had already done evil deeds.
He just impaled Yamcha, which is like the jaywalking of the DBZ universe.
Gero was already a villain when he was serving in the Red Ribbon Army. I highly doubt that his android/cyborg research was the _first_ evil thing he'd ever done.
The vegeta crying to be a super saiyan is one of my personal favorites.
Anyone who claims that Yamcha never contributed anything is clearly forgetting he quite literally provided a vital resource no one else ever did! He brought towels. You need a towel? Yamcha's got you.
And with that he contributed more than Vegeta
Anyone who thinks this is a joke: when you need a towel, the blessed saint giving you a towel is jesus, buddha, gandi and santa claus all at the same time
Yamcha > Krillen
gotta say. wanting to let someone else have a chance at the big bad and then not promising to not make a habit out of doing that is the some of the biggest foreshadowing of this arc.
40:30 Taka, that isn't a plot hole. Cell in the original straight up says that Gero got the cells from Freeza when he showed up on Earth. Because in the original, it didn't go to Namek, because Gero decided it wasn't worth it. If anything, YOU created a plot hole when you said that it was destroyed in "the Sayain attack", because then there was no way to get Freeza's cells.
In fairness, this Cell did come from a different multiverse where Gero did in fact get the cells from Freeza in that particular universe, whereas in this one, it was in fact destroyed during the Saiyan attack, in other words Multiverse theory is a bitch.
@@JimmyJohn89808 Except Trunks didn't change anything until well after the Sayains attacked. That should be the same in both timelines.
@@JimmyJohn89808 Different robot bug, one collected info for Gero and got destroyed during the Saiyan invasion, other one (plus an unaccounted amount of em we never see) that passively collected data for Cell's embryo was destroyed by Piccolo when Cell revealed his origins, as seen in chapter 363.
yes 100%
Still a plot hole though. Gero should have known about Super Saiyan from Trunks and Goku if he knew about Freeza's arrival.
the heart plot was that he should take the medicine when symptomes APPEARED. Not before. And the butterfly effect had him get the disease waaaay later then Future Trunks's timeline.
A lot of people say the intensified training brought on by the knowledge of the android attack made him resist the disease longer before it became debilitating
@@hillbillypowpow i mean, it should've been backwards then. Cuz, he went Super Saiyan vs 19 and he almost instantly got worse. Soooo, shouldn't harder training accelerate the disease then?
And we argue these things, but Toriyama got the disease to kick in at the time for dramatic effect and to take Goku out of the plotline for a while.
Love the little background conversation during The Big Reveal.
Piccolo: "AHHHAHAHAHA!"
Vegeta: "WHAT'S SO FUNNY?!"
Piccolo: "YOUR SHIRT!"
Vegeta: "RRRRAAAAGH!!!"
Even better when you consider that's just Lani talking to himself. xD
Sometimes it feels like a bad person who's a good parent is treated better than a good person who's a bad parent.
Chi Chi has to be one of the physically toughest Humans to survive being married to Goku with that wall punch
Well she is the daughter of the Ox King… and the daughter of whoever survived the process of making a child with Ox King (didn’t survive getting sick later though)
That whole dynasty's hardy for human standard. Goku's lucky the Ox King had a daughter that liked him.
Vegeta, being more cultured with society and tech, can reel it in for Bulma and family.
So the thing with the "Android" bit more succinctly: The original Japanese uses "jinzouningen", written as "人造人間", which means "Artificial Human". While this was likely meant as a catch-all to cover both cyborgs and fully artificial creations, it was taken literally giving us "Android" in the dub.
He literally mentioned that.
Watching TFS provide commentary on this series is just as enjoyable as watching it through the first time.
I like to think that Goku told everyone what happens to Yamcha so everyone starts being nicer to him. Except Vegeta.
I like to think that Goku didn't specify the suicide part. He just emphasised "Be nice to Yamcha".
@@dnmstarsiIt evidently worked, they became best buds by the end of the Cell Saga

I can kind of understand giving the Senzu beans to Bulma; You don't set up the medical tent in the middle of the battlefield.
I guess also, the beans do have a chance of getting destroyed in a battlefield.
Yeah, but you also don't pull every medic from their squad.
Senzu beans are instant. Not exactly a good comparison.
I never understood why Bulma would need Vegeta to get a job in order to help raise Trunks, but that's fine.
She just wanted him out of the house.
It's the principle of the matter.
Her fortune would alow him to pursue anything he’d want at his own pace
She was pushing for him to find a new purpose in life, instead of being the prick of a prince
Also toxic on her part, but still

And darkest joke gets even darker once Pu'ar realises he can transform back
If there is any genuine personal lessons to be learned from DBZA "just take the compliment" is probably it.
I kinda need a joke about Frieza missing his muffin button in HFIL.
The fact that Goku and Frieza are completely different except for the fact they both like muffins is quite funny.
Cell: Mmm… muffin button
Frieza: That still doesn’t make us friends
Cell: I’M TRYING FRIEZA!
Weird is in the Manga we never even saw the Planet or Aliens he learned teleportation from.
but we do see them in super well at least another universes version of them
Vegeta throwing a tantrum is still one of the funniest jokes ever
This intro just has me thinking what Senzu Soy Milk would taste like.
Yajirobe: … Korin likes it
I love the Piccolo gently correcting Goku bit so much, not only because it's genuinely hilarious, but because it reminds me of my dad helping me memorize scripts for a performance.
19:18 I feel like not enough people acknowledge the fact that this is the first time in DBZA (movies notwithstanding) that Goku and Chi-Chi have spoken to each other, which is kind of wild
"Why did you stop?!?!" Is probably my favorite line read
"A Super-Dooper-Super-Saiyan" comes from a line in the song called "Der Führer's Face" by Spike Jones. I am so glad Taka can confirm that this is where that like came from. I feel so cultured.
The song was actually by Oliver Wallace, for the Walt Disney cartoon "Donald Duck in Nutzi Land". Spike Jones and his City Slickers covered it.
@@SonofSethoitae I was aware of the cartoon and that the song was present in it, but I didn't know that Spike Jones covered it. Thanks for the clarification!
Taka, Gero didn‘t send insect robots to Namek. He got Freeza‘s and Cold‘s cells when they were on Earth.
Also, the reason why he didn’t take the medicine during the 3-years gap was because he didn’t become sick. It’s during the day the cyborgs attacked that he suddenly became sick. In Trunks‘s and Cell‘s timelines, he got sick earlier.
I mean I guess Goku's 3 years of training might have affected the development of his disease a bit, but there are other inconsistencies with the timeline. Like how at the exact day and time 17 and 18 attacked South City in his timeline, it was 19 and 20 instead. Or later when Future Trunks comes back and comments how 17 and 18 are even stronger than the ones in his timeline. Neither of those two changes had any sort of logical catalyst.
@@vigorouslethargyit could simply be a different turn of events. Every choice has a direct change in the timeline. Maybe gero limited how strong 17 and 18 were in Trunk's timeline thus making him think they'd be able to be controlled. However, in this timeline Gero made them a lot stronger and they'd already attempted to kill him once hence why he made himself into an android and why he brought 19 with. They're different choices that led to a different turn of events.
I like how they can hear piccolo and vegeta but not goku yelling “bulmas your mom?!?”
"I'm taking Gohan. Bye!" Has to be one of my favorite running jokes in DBZA
This and (mostly) the previous episode are the quintessential episodes i use to introduce someone to dbza without spoiling the show. Just to convince them to watch it.
Considering how often they end up with ripped clothes and holes through their bodies, maybe keeping the Senzu Beans away from all that destruction isn't such a bad idea after all.
Frankly it's a small wonder that they didn't get blown up by accident a single time and that only one enemy ever bothered to destroy them deliberately, and that was in a movie.
i love gokus philosophical internal monologue he has about where the androids would be
And the obvious Philip K Dick reference
@@fullskapunkalchemist3471 i know of the story and caught the reference to it, but i never knew the authors name so i had no idea what your comment meant until i googled the name lol
I always imagined senzu beans tasting like unroasted pistachios.
They taste like fish, mentioned by Yajirobe
So this is where I find out he also voiced Red XIII. It’s amazing how I only knew he voiced Nappa, cell, and Alucard even though he has voiced every one of my favourite characters so far.
I just had the realization that I can officially quote DBZA more than I can the original series.
Goku not taking the medicine isn't a plot hole; he got sick a lot later than he was originally supposed to.
Yep. In the actual show, it was a cure that Goku was meant to take after he developed symptoms, and he started developing the symptoms after they met 19 and 20. It’s plausible that the training altered Goku’s routine so that he ended up exposed at a different time than in the original timeline. A little contrived, but not a plot hole.
I was eating a muffin the other day and my mrs asked me where I got the muffin from. She set me up for the joke and I didn’t even care that she didn’t get the response. I’m so happy that I was able to say “muffin button” in a real world context. I can die happy now.
30:20 🎶"Senzu beans left behind; they'll only slow us down. Your heart will be your guide, so raise the sails and take the helm,to that legendary place, that the end of the map reveals. It's only legendary till someone prove it real..."
Y'all should have just uploaded the Vegeta Bulma scene on loop one April 1st under the title "History of Trunks"
46:55 If I recall correctly, I'm pretty sure the medicine was one where you weren't supposed to take it until you start showing symptoms. that might be a head canon justification that someone made up or something, but that's the reasoning I remember
30:05 Goku saying specialty incorrectly as "especialty" was always a good one for me even though it's simple
Always enjoy watching and hearing how much fun it was for them to work on these and how much they are fans of db,dbz 😎🤟
I’ve been rewatching some of the old Pokémon shows for nostalgia and it baffles me that one guy editing can do much better lip sync and editing then all of 4kids
The difference is that Kaiserneko cares about the source material.
I forget what it was called, but a few years ago Kaizer got to handle the editing for an official English dub of a show. When asked about why the show didn't have proper lip syncing like DBZA, he said it was _never_ an option as it takes way too much time for a normal production.
DBZA was a passion project, it has lip syncing because the episodes released whenever they were ready, not within deadlines unless it was a holiday special. With no release date, it was ok to spend hours making the mouths line up with the dialogue because the episode technically wasn't delayed.
Another thing is that DBZA's lip syncing wasn't simply "change the timing of the mouth movements" there were multiple times where lips were taken from different scenes or outright drawn from scratch. It doesn't sound like much but it can easily take longer than you'd think to find the right mouth shape.
4Kids not doing lip syncing wasn't because they didn't have the skill to do it (especially considering the crazy censoring they'd do), it was because they didn't have the time or desire to. Kaiser is a perfectionist so he constantly gave himself more work to do for DBZA when most people wouldn't have even bothered.
Always the highlight of my Wednesday afternoon. I was waiting for this.
I really need a compilation of all the times Taka does the "HI-YOOOO" bit.
Being from UK when I saw the yadrat sick part I thought they were vomiting into Goku’s mouth and that’s your explanation for why he can Instant transmission.
Actually, the nano bots never went to Namek, even in canon. Gero states, "We have enough information after Vegeta." The nano bots continue to monitor them, gathering further info for Cell, not for any numbered project like Gero's robotic body or the twins.
Cell is composed of all of Earth's warriors, Vegeta, King Cold, and Frieza, the latter two thanks to them arriving on Earth. Trunks actually didn't have his cells taken because, "There was enough Saiyan material." So yeah, by the time Cell was being worked on, he already had SSJ Goku, Vegeta, Frieza, King Cold, Piccolo, Gohan, Krillin, Tien, Yamcha, even Chiaotzu, King Piccolo, and Nappa if we're being technical. Most people assumed the hodgepodged makeup of his DNA was why Cell was unable to use any of Chiaotzu's psychic abilities, along with toning down certain personality traits, with Vegeta and Frieza at the forefront, while kind hearted personalities like Gohan and Krillin and hot headed personalities like King Piccolo and Nappa at the back, mainly to prevent a kind creation like Androids 8 and 16, or brutes who cannot handle anything if they aren't in total control, like King Piccolo and Nappa once they were on the back foot. Many assume Piccolo is high up there, due to Cell's ability to strategize.
Or you know, because personalities aren't genetic and that had more to do with the conditioning he underwent during development.
@@shadenox8164 Kind of, but not really. It's stated in canon that his personality was specifically tailored as well, citing Vegeta and Frieza's desire to be the absolute strongest, with Vegeta's in particular being the stronger drive to do so, along with the blood knight tendency. Said example actually is why Cell is so cruel when he hunts and toys with his food, because of Frieza. In many ways, Cell is a combined clone, down to the point where his ki is a perfect match for the other warriors.
I only say kind of because his DNA of Goku is the wildcard in him. It was stated that there's no real way of telling which version of him takes stronger precedence: Goku or Kakarrot.
From a realistic standpoint, this doesn't make any sense, because personalities are not genetic. But this is coming from the same arc that includes time travel, so goodbye normal realistic assumptions.
The fact Trunks saved Goku's friends from Freeza begs the question, how did they survive Freeza in Trunks' timeline? Was that ever explained somewhere and I just don't remember?
it gets explained that in the future, that timeline's version of goku just teleported to earth once he sensed king cold and freeza
the only reason he didn't in the present timeline was because he also sensed trunks and knew they were about to get their shit kicked without him having to do anything
If I had to guess, Piccolo survived and they used the dragon balls
Goku says in the actual series he was about to instant transmission to Earth and kill Frieza before Trunks stepped in. It’s actually part of him explaining that he can do it. So in the original timeline he presumably did this and then killed Frieza and Cold
@KostyaComm Honestly, the real question is why didn't trunks know goku did this, like he knew when exactly goku would land.
But if goku teleported to freiza in his timeline he wouldnt have landed in the first place. Also, Bulma would have told trunks that goku defeated freiza.
@@plantcrone9662 Goku doesn't STEER the ship, it has coordinates input, so Goku COULD simply teleport out of his pod and it would still land. Also, Trunks could still know that Goku kills Frieza and King Cold but decide to do it himself to both endear himself to Goku and his friends and prove his trustworthiness, AND demonstrate his own power which also shows the futility of facing the Androids that even HE stands no chance against without being prepared AND outnumbering them.
"Inconspicuous old man and mime," is funny. I kinda wish when Goku popped in after Yamcha got attacked, he was like "Somebody attacked Yamcha! Did you see who it was inconspicuous old man and mime?" Only because it's Goku, he messes up one of the words.
Did you see anything, incompatible old man and mime?!
@@GreenlandRobot "Incontinent old man and mime?"
I always liked how you guys handled Vegeta's Super Saiyan moment. He gets to be an absolute snarky badass during the battle, but we also see how he's still kind of a brat on his way to achieving it.
In Japan, as Gozar would ALWAYS point out, they used Jinzoningen. It means "artificial human", which we call Androids in English. But it's used for robots, androids, and cyborgs very interchangeably in Japanese.
to be fair, in practice English fiction writers who aren't specifically interested in the subject of artificial humans or bionic replacement often use "android" and "cyborg" interchangably as well...including the movie Toriyama got his inspiration from, Terminator, which calls Arnie a "cyborg" on a few occasions despite him being literally a robot with synthetic skin.
We just tend to do it in the other direction, with "cyborg" covering for the fully robotic sort too, instead of the artificial human covering for human-with-artificial-bits.
@@youmukonpaku3168 True. But these days it's more defined. And sometimes, like in DBZA, it's wrong intentionally as part of the plot.
I figured senzu beans taste like edamame but sweet
That Yamcha dark joke led to some pretty wholesome stuff, like that Goku line, and then later on Yamcha stays at Goku's side when he's having his heart attack
Taka I know that this is off topic but I was last week years old when I realized that you played the voice of Dartz on YGOTAS. Literally the best voice acting I've ever heard. "Scwew duh ruwes, I have the Shibadalabidalibudalah"
