I tried two on my RD400C.. first was the HPI which has a timing curve in it and I was stunned how much more low/mid torque the bike made, it was wonderful but I could not stand the tiny light flywheel and lack of flywheel effect. I then bought the Vape with its nice chunky flywheel and the bike feels so good with it... really smooths out the idle and power. No spark curve tho so no extra torque like the HPI but soon I will buy the programmer from them and add the same curve then I will have the best of both. I never thought about the flywheel of the HPI but it was really annoying for me. You have to turn up the idle to keep it from stalling at a light and the bike smoked so badly.. plus I just like a relaxed idle instead of having my bike revving needlessly under me while stopped. The Vape flywheel really made all the difference for me. If it was a track bike then the HPI would be good but not for the street afaic.
Very helpful video Windy! I have that same dial indicator and if I recall it was pricey but worth it for the accuracy it provides. Maybe check the integrity and resistance of the spark plug wires.
What electronic ignition system are you thinking about installing? A lot here in the UK use Newtronics but you have a box mounted normally under the seat. I see guys in the States seem to like the Vintage Smoke magnetic pickup system.
nothing beats the weighty flywheel of the Vape. It feels like magic to me after replacing the HPI I had on it that has very little flywheel mass. It really made a huge difference to how the bike idled and felt in general.
Stop looking at the timing marks. Set the piston at the required distance BTDC and set the points to be just opening at that distance for that cylinder. Repeat the process for the other cylinder. Done
Hillary, I Love using a Light...Definitely!! I Know where my scribes are..visually..for 1. 8 VS 2.0 BTDC.. but i love the circuit tester Light. thanx Hill...peace. Dave Boulder CO USA 74 rd 350 stock.
You should make a good explanatory video. It seems that you know a lot about the subject. I have a 1973 RD350 and I want to learn how to set the time and points. I have not been able to see a good video on how to do it.
9:28 seconds of talking about time management and showing us tons of stuff not related to the title of this video. Now on to why I originally clicked on this video.
Tiempo es limitado tu usate 9.28 minutos de un video de 23.38 minutos diciendo una cantidad de cosas irrelevantes creo que hablas mas de la cuenta y realmente tu video no explica nada.
THANKS FOR KEEPING THE RDs ALIVE AND SMOKIN.
We love watching, Windy.🇬🇧

PLEASE SEND ME LINK TO ONE OF YOUR VIDEOS SO I CAN SEE HOW AN EXPERT MAKES VIDEOS.
