The Smoky beef rib is really big. It must be very filling for one person. The portion is quite sufficient!
I wasn't really looking forward to the grilled fish, but seeing the sauce and red pepper, I was convinced!
The final skewers are also very tempting, and I feel like it will have a rich flavor! All three types of barbecue are great!
We eat avocado, but rarely add it to ice, which is really eye-opening!

I saw the ribs price was about 100k or over $6 an order. It's a pretty high price for a lot of people there, but considering the amount of meat it seems right. A McDonalds meal can still be had for about 50k.

Usually we mix everything before we eat the Es teler/es campur. That way the ice will blend well with other ingredients.

indeed, almost all of Indonesian’s food is so spice so you have to get used to. as Indonesians we love so much spicy foods 😂
This is a good mix of BBQ, although it would’ve been nice to see more varieties with mutton/chevon and pork. Maybe something popular and easy to find in Jakarta like like Batak-style pork or Solo-style mutton. It’s always a pleasure to have you in our country, and most of us just want you to try things that you might have missed out on before.
3:11 Ah _Iga Panggang Panglima_ is a local favorite, but it’s not really “Indonesian” per se.
8:19 Love this suggestion from Arie, _juku’ tunu_ (grilled fish) is a really good representation from South Sulawesi.
11:19 Aside from wearing mask, somebody really should tell that man not to smoke at work, that’s disgusting. Anyways, _sate Madura_ is popular around Indonesia 👍

@@LukeMartin Too Be Honest it just a tip of the Iceberg... u must Try ayam bakar (Grilled Chicken) at Ayam Bakar Gantari Resto. Or Grilled Ayam Taliwang Specialty of Lombok... Oh By the way Usually Madura Style Satay is made from Chicken or Goat meat.
@@LukeMartin definitely! I’d recommend something like pork ribs BBQ which, similar to the first place would went to in this video, is some sort of a “fusion” between Western and Indonesian flavors.

Well... it seems like I have to confirm this, Lombok actually comes from the Sasak language called "Lomboq" which means "straight", which is definitely not "chili". It is said that this name was given to commemorate the long journey of the ancestors of the Lombok people when they discovered this island.

Yep, it's because lombok in Java means chilli, and since people in lombok like spicy food they just put it together.
Common mistakes even as Indonesians.
My preference:
Beef ribs, Satay, Fish.

Yeah, I also agree that my perceptions of Thai food in general, at least the one that I tasted in the south and central Thailand, are a notch spicier than Indonesian. Perhaps because Central Javanese and Minang cuisines takes a lot of space in my Indonesian vo-grub-ulary. Would be different if I limit it to Surabaya or North Sulawesi only.

A little correction and addition:
1. The first place, it's a westernized bbq place. If you want to taste the authentic one from Indonesia, you can search for Konro Bakar (it's also ribs)
2. Second place, no comment, sulawesi makes some of the best seafood dish.
3. Third place, sate kambing isn't beef but goat meat. That's why it taste gamier and chewy. For beef sate, you can search for sate maranggi.

Looks like you miss one (or already but i missed it). If you do, go try Sate Padang Ajo Ramon next to Pasar Santa area. There's also many good foods in the Pasar Santa area
Kambing means goat, in case the next time you’re seeing them on the menu and Sapi are the real beef. I live in Jakarta and I wish I have a high spice tolerance, like seeing you enjoy them though. I’ll just live vicariously through you 😅
I think they call our kambing muttons, not goats tho ..

@@KilanEatsandDrinks yes....mostly selling goat. Very rare to find veal or lamb chops in Indonesia. Kambing often mistranslated as lamb or mutton. Here was even worse, calling it beef 🤦🏻♀️🤣

Es Teler = Drunk Ice, because so many ingredient & too sweet for a taste. Thats why it will make customer feel "DRUNKEN" because of sweetness flavour & fullfill of stomach
the winner that ari said that ES TELER 77, that is the number 1 in indonesia for es teler.
