Path Projects - Superb Running Shorts Pockets

  • Path Projects makes shorts with a pocket big enough to hold my iPhone 11 Pro. They shorts can also hold my keys and gels in a way that those things don't bounce around. And, the shorts look good enough to wear around as just shorts. Instantly, I'm in love.
    Path Projects uses an outer layer/base layer system that I've previously considered unnecessarily complicated. But as I've found myself looking for more shorts without a built in liner, the time was perfect for me to try Path Projects. Usually, I wear long tights (which don't usually have pockets) with a pair of unlined shorts on top. Path Projects shorts work great in this type of setup. They also can be paired with their base layers, which are cool and comfortable.
    Disclosures: all Path Projects clothing featured in this video was provided to me for purpose of review. However, no one is paying me to make this video or to wear these clothes. No one gets a chance to preview my footage or thoughts before the video goes up on youtube.

    Billy Yang's suggestion of rinsing the base liner in the sink and air drying is working well for me--and helping to justify the relatively high price point.

    Thanks for the review, Mike. I was leaning towards and eventually decided to get the Graves 7 in. (mainly for the extra pocket). Glad to hear that they're the go-to choice for both you and Floris. Just ordered them tonight - can't wait to get them in soon.

    I also think the liner-less shorts play to runners doing ultra races where the liners in the shorts may cause chaffing. The base liner helps a ton!

    I've always thought wearing shorts over tights didn't make any sense. But your video blew my mind! Crazy... such a simple thing but sometimes you need another perspective. I've only been run commuting for few months but will for sure look into getting a pair of shorts to use those days when I need to drop off my kid to daycare or pick him up. I don't yet do doubles for the run commute so I've only ran home or ran to work depending on the morning or afternoon schedule. The shorts you reviewed here look very interesting. Thanks!

    Great review. I am a Path Projects fan. Also, learned of the brand through Billy Yang’s video. I have the Syke’s and Graves shorts. Both are great but Graves is my go to shorts because of pockets. I also have the hoodie which is a favorite as well. Your descriptions are spot on. Looking forward to purchase their shirts next.

    Happy to see you finally got your hands on some PP! 🤪In all seriousness though, I think you and Gingerrunner first peaked my curiosity w/ Janji, but after Billy and Floris were talking about Path, I made the switch and may give the edge towards them. Overall, I think it’s awesome to have both companies in my rotation as it feels really great to support the smaller guys who do good for the running community.

    Not tried the shorts yet but the hoody is almost too good to run in. It’s so comfy, so practical and also the extra neck coverage when the hood is up, is also nice. Traveling anywhere, especially on long haul flights, this hoody is amazing!!! Only down side is this hoody is so nice, I wear it to work more than I do on runs. But hey-ho.

    PATH Projects shorts are great. Material is high quality and the build is perfect for running. If I could afford more of their clothes I would buy more and replace some stuff from more big name brand running companies. Oh and the separate liners are phenomenal. I do wish they had actual pants, not just long liners. And they hopefully will have women's clothes at some point.

      PATH projects Great products and solid and in-depth review, Mike! 👊🏼 FYI, I’m writing this question before doing any research, but are PP shorts primarily for colder climates? How do you think they’d be when running in heat? As a Florida runner, my running shorts are soaked through on every run for 10 months of the year (and just wet for the other two months). I find anything longer than short shorts get very heavy when wet (probably not a surprise; more material=more weight). I like the idea of the base layer but if they get soaked I worry they would become a chafing issue. Any thoughts or insight is appreciated! 👍🏼

    • @pathprojects
      @pathprojects Před 4 lety +1

      @@its_Matt_B_ our shorts work well for running in the heat as well. We’ve had lots of customer feedback from similar climates like Florida, Hawaii, Texas and the Sykes shorts with Torch or Tahoe base liners would suit just fine. The fabrics have amazing moisture wicking and quick dry properties. Several athletes have raced Badwater 135 miles in 120 Fahrenheit / 48 Celsius and left positive reviews afterwards with no chafing issues. Other athletes have ran 200 mile and 240+ mile races and experienced no chafing issues either. Hope that helps Matt 👍🏼

    These shorts look great.. if only they made the liner inside of the shorts I could use for racing mainly for those pockets! Have you found anything like that?

    • @pathprojects
      @pathprojects Před 4 lety

      Hi Zanrok, the shorts are developed on purpose to work well in training and racing. Many athletes have raced in these, including fast marathons + even long ultras such as Badwater 135 and 200+ mile races, without chafing or over heating issues.
