- New Trek Madone Gen 8, Superlight Aero Roadbike, Team Trek Lidl
First appearance, first victory: Mads Pedersen (Lidl - Trek) won the opening stage of the Critérium du Dauphiné (2.UWT) 2024 on a bike that surprised the experts. Is it a Madone, is it an Émonda? In view of the features of both model series, many questions arose - for example, whether Trek would merge the two racing bikes into one.
Now it's clear, Trek unveiled the brand new Madone Gen8 on June 27th. The Madone Gen8 is as light as the current Émonda and 320g lighter than the previous Madone Gen7 frameset. The Madone Gen8 is 77 seconds faster than the current Émonda and just as fast as the Madone Gen7, while the new Aero bottle cages and bottles make the overall system even faster.
The IsoFlow system has also been further improved and is more compliant than before, allowing you to stay in the saddle for longer.
We received one of the first bikes in the run-up to the presentation and were able to set it up in our workshop. In the video you can see all the details of the frame, fork and new cockpit including the actual weights on the scales. Have fun!

7.78kg without pedals is a tank!
Ultegra?
@@siez8152 since dura ace is 262g less than ultegra, make it 7.52kg with da, still a tank.
too bad its not a top spec build!!!
Would definitely want lighter wheels
My Cervelo s5 is Heavyer but it is a Rocketship on the Flat North German Roads.
18:35 7.8kg?! that is a super heavy bike. Tarmac sl8 can be 6.7kg with same aero design
not with the same wheels and groupset 😬
I love that build♥️
I'm here to see those cool cages and bottles.. Their price is insane though. Hope other make similar cages/bottles.
Awesome & Thanks :)
Oh this is big! Congrats on getting a world premiere and giving us the scoop!!
Cheers!
Notable el ensamblaje de esa Trek. Muchas gracias por el vídeo. Saludos Alfredo desde Montevideo Uruguay 🇺🇾.
thank you
Heavy
Yeah I was expecting same level of lightness as Tarmac SL8 but it was far away of it
@@ks-vq5er Please don't forget it's only Ultegra, a heavy wheelset and bottles. There is quite some room for a healthy weightloss if you want to climb up a few mountains 😉
First Gen8 New madone Build Video!! Gen8 New Madone ........ Very Good design and aero line....😃 I love Trek ....❤
Yeah, really nice frame and paint job 🤩
This is amazing modern bicycle anyway.
🤡🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣
Trek claim the SLR frame weight 796g, fork 350g, but this one…880+390, 10% more.
It's a large frame. Not sure what size they claim that weight on. Usually it's a medium or small.
@@mikeymike1792 check rb’s tarmac sl8 build vid, 739g for a 56cm frame, claim 685g, which is 54g or 7.8% overweight. I think many manufacturers should be more honest and realistic with claimed weight, especially when weight is a big selling point.
Take in consideration frame size. Usually they give the weight of a 54 frame (Medium Large).
And don't forget the paint, choosing colors over an all black frame makes quite a difference as well.
At last a non black frame!
Yeah, that's the number one choice on project one. Black 🙈😂 That is so much nicer 🤩
I presume you couldn't cut the steerer, but that stack of spacers ruins the aesthetics, sadly.
Yeah, it's a size large and the rider wouldn't have been too happy 😅 we'll tell him do do more yoga 😉👍
It’s what puts me off all the preassembled big brand bikes, you need to rebuild it to put more than the minimal amount of grease, and cut the steerer. And, the bike needs to be rideable to weight it.
Like the bike, like the vid .. but, why did you change the brake-rotors (not the Ultegra's) and what brand of bit did you use with the Wera rachet ??
Because the rotors he change is more lightweight than the ultegra.
Love the build, I've got a question though! I'm also doing my first self-supported build and I'm looking for that slotted nut/adaptor for the brake hose bolt like shown at 7:05... Could you name the tool or at least the brand? It's not Wera is it?
No, unfortunately Wera doesn't make one: www.amazon.de/Sourcingmap-a16011600ux0952-100-8-mm-Steckschlüssel-Schlitz-Verlängerung/dp/B01G980PKQ/ref=sr_1_1_sspa?__mk_de_DE=ÅMÅŽÕÑ&crid=2C0L4ZGZM64M1&dib=eyJ2IjoiMSJ9.E8IJygc8aOdFFcU8p3M5abC_ePjmLLA21oIHpszEx9mZivwm4eLbfld7wJtNEF0xycV4Hfr7JKIzZXGZZXwe0rmtdbLinDH78IW1r9uW4xhlb9x221V1C3N3wZ4f8PLyC8VTyyawrLcgOsqOoRSKYZmJg148du-BPKeRJs3SmjpFxyshT9TgsWzM4zFcQOP5EQlBf-t5NxrdGfj-sZjb_FgfT9oX6c3kR6IAP8uDuoM.WgsnKz9XuAfQFlZTt57RBFy7BcsIf5WlUWMI4UpFn90&dib_tag=se&keywords=8mm%2Bsteckschlüssel%2Bschlitz&qid=1719560230&sprefix=8mm%2Bsteckschlüssel%2Bschlitz%2Caps%2C86&sr=8-1-spons&sp_csd=d2lkZ2V0TmFtZT1zcF9hdGY&th=1
It would be cool listing some of the tools used, for example those torque wrenches.
klick klack 🤪 Can't you hear them? 9:27 and 17:52
It appears to be Wera A2 Torque Wrench
@@roadbikechannel I really love it. A very satisfying sound! Not like the one I bought from a very popular brand that I'm not going to mention, but I'm very disappointed with that wrench.
@@maciejkondziolka1190 Thank you!
👍👍
Whats the purpose the weighing everything piece by piece?
This rotors... mmmmm
Too heavy for 2025
Possible link for the tool to torque down the brake hose on the shifter?? At 7:05

@@roadbikechannel Legend, thank you!
Designed by Warner's Disneyland.
What is he mounting at 9:42 below the derailleur? chain catcher?
yes, chain guide. trek is mounting those since a few years 👍
@@roadbikechannel thank you :) would be something great if other brands did that too 😏
Question on why you added a new olive when doing up the brake line to lever? I was under the impression new shimano levers had the olive pre-installed sitting inside the lever? Is this now not the case on 12 speed?
they are still inside, but we always pull out the olive. We had a few bikes with olives only partial covering of the hose. Better stay on the safe side 👍
Over 8kg with pedals 👀🙈lol and price close to 10k what a joke ...😂
ugliest bike in the peloton and easily the most inefficient design and use of material.
How are you suposed to take out a wheel in the middle of the road if you have a flat tire? I don't know why modern wheels don't have quick releases. Disc brakes overcomplicate things.
If you can carry a tube, pump or co2 you might be able to carry a 5mm hex key/toolset. 😉
And to be fair... The bike comes with a 5mm quick release plugged into the axels. We took it out to get the torque right and because it looks cleaner. 😬
Junk
Ich bin immer wieder erstaunt über die Großzügigkeit, die in dieser Gemeinschaft zum Ausdruck kommt. Es ist, als wäre man in eine warme, unterstützende Decke gehüllt.😛
