There are no safeties since he’s retired with the same level instincts that Troy had. Timing, acceleration, instinct, will was unmatched. Miss the days of Troy and Ed at safety. There’s some great safeties today, but none are close to those two.

As a diehard Ravens fan I hate the Steelers with a passion. But you can’t say a mean word about Troy. It was truly amazing to watch him and Ed Reed set the standard for the safety position for so many years. Troy would be my number one SS of all time while Ed is the best FS of all time.
As a sports fan period...some of my favorite all time players were the guys who were my favorite teams menace for years. As fans we love to have someone to hate. At the end of their careers, we're sad to see them go because even though we hated admitting it, we loved watching them, and it made victory so much sweeter when we got one over on them, because we knew we beat an absolute demon on the other side.

So much of what he did was improvised or against their called play, but he was just soooo good at reading and recognizing the play, that he was 100% a wild card. So hard to plan for that. Also, probably one of the biggest reason his later seasons felt like he fell off so hard, because the mind is still working at a pace the body wasn’t capable of any more. Still such an amazing player.
