- Hi everyone, welcome back, sometimes working with a lot of part suppliers can be very frustrating and using quality parts should make things easier, but today you'll see that isn't always the case.
anyway I hope you all enjoy a little snippet into what goes on in a day in the life of a mobile mechanic.

Hi Kirby, I’m to a mobile mechanic and I relate 100% wrong parts, jobs taking longer than you planned, im the same with timing belts too but as long as there are more good days than bad it’s all good mate and soon the weather will warm up too
Oh deffo mate, wasn’t even a bad day really and yeah the good far outweigh the bad 👍
Get into computers!! Forget about it! Once ordered a st94 microchip for a Commodore Fragscan. 3 weeks later they delivered a BRAND NEW C64! Couldn't believe it. We are going back some years here.... Probably 40
😂😂I’m useless with computers
Hate dealing with parts companies. There forever getting wrong parts and wasting our time. Great content mate, keep it up. 👍🏼
Nice one 👍🤝
I had to remove my water pump (driven by timing belt) 3 times in as many weeks due to coolant loss. The supplier was convinced that the leak was coming from the rubber sealing gasket so sent me a new one, it didnt work so then I tried flange sealant which also was a fail. I then noticed that the "weep hole" in the pump was leaking intermittently & so the supplier finally sent me a new pump. I had lost the will to live refitting the pump for the 3rd time so I know how you feel. The pump was a good quality SKF unit. Apologies for the long comment, just putting this out there in case it helps anyone who has the same problem in the future.
Can be so frustrating, I hate doing the same thing more than once
For any self-helpers out there don’t forget to disconnect the battery before you mess with the alternator. I’ve changed 6 in my life and I’ve forgotten 5 of the 6 times.
Soon find out when it sparks 😂
“The van wants a fight” 🤣🤣🤣I know the feeling mate! One of those days! Keep them coming Kirby! Have a great Easter!👍
Haha honestly gets like that doesn’t it 😂
@@kerbsidemobilemechanic I only work on my own and Family cars. But I find it’s sometimes the easiest jobs that go tits up🤬
100%, whenever I do work on someone I know car, it goes wrong 😂
No other trade like it 🤬🤬, I left just over a year ago after 17 years in it, I feel your pain 😢
Oh wow, what did you go on to do?
@@kerbsidemobilemechanic oil and gas refinery, still keep my hand in but nothing major anymore not worth the stress. I do enjoy your videos to keep them coming 👏🏻👏🏻
Thank you, no sign of slowing down the videos yet mate 👍
As an ex mobile mechanic there’s nothing worse than a new part failing in a short space of time as it wastes time and looses money which as an independent business can’t afford to be doing. I use to say to my supplier can I charge the manufacturer of the part for the labour time I have now lost from fitting there parts!
Problem is as you know the supplier will pay you labour but only after a claim and a 3 month wait and to be paid at a fraction of your labour time, even then it’s not worth the admin
Have a great Easter pal appreciate your upload 👍
Cheers mate 👍🤝
Excellent video. Thank you 👍 👍
Thanks for watching 👍
Great video mate as a mobile mechanic i wont ever use lucus parts even the sensors dont fit properly any electrical starters alternators sensors go directly to the dealer yes the customer pays more but at the same time dealer parts last up to 100 thousand miles if they dont want to do that then i walk away i learned the hard way at first nothing but a headache
The thing is I have on the odd occasion fitted the “lesser” branded name parts and they’ve been spot on 😂
Lucas were always known as the prince of darkness! They are definitely not the best now and probably relying on the name
From now on won’t fit another Lucas unit
In regards to the step, marvellous a double step, and that is just to get in the driver’s seat without it being raised up lol
😂😂😂😂
I'm glad I only work on my cars and friends if they stuck do feel for you as nothing is simple any more shocked about that alternator just shows buying expensive parts don't mean they are the best quality Have a good relaxing Easter bank holiday mate 👍
All good mate, keep plodding along 👍
Hi kirby im also a mobile mechanic theres Nothing worse than failed parts that are supposed to be quality
I just had a steering rack fail after 3 months parts suppliers not intreasted in labour costs you incurred for
They don’t make our lives easy do they mate
Rush a timing belt 🙈🙈 go at a comfy pace - ur getting thru plenty & less stress. Great video again 👌
No rush, just know I can do one and another job in a day, but thanks for watching 🤝
The Alternator looks like on a MK2 Citroen Berlingo Van. Just done the one on mine although it was the Clutch Pulley I changed out, twat of a job on your back outside. All the best.
Hard graft ain’t it mate
Far from Mat Armstrong I'm afraid 😂 just a hardworking lad that probably doesn't get paid enough, keep the vids coming 👍
Haha one day, he started fixing cars in a Indian restaurant car park so there’s a chance for me yet 😂
Exellent😊
👍
Jist crack those top and bottom bolts on the inside enough that they are just loose, then kinda take it out at an angle. Don’t loosen them the whole way.
Honestly I tried but was millimetres from coming out 😂
We have had a few issues with rotating electrics, luckily it was before handing the vehicle back, one didn't even leave the workshop : (
Going to start fitting more Starline
@kerbsidemobilemechanic I've had bad experiences with Starline parts... I bought one of their drop links for my 1 series and it failed pretty quickly. I then bought a Meyle one and it's much better in quality 👍🏻
I’ve fitted a few Starline electrical components and not had one come back, but I agree there suspension type of part doesn’t seem the best
I think ECP brought the Lucas electrical side of things
Yeah I think you are correct
We only fit genuine alterations to fords had so many problems with other makes i fitted 2 the other day till i got a ford one spot on first time
I’ve heard this a few times now actually with fords
@@kerbsidemobilemechanic likely a smart alternator too
I don’t believe this one was actually
Do you know why the Brits love warm beer because Lucas also make refrigerators. Lucas the prince of darkness. 😂
😂😂😂
yeah just slacken the two rear bolts mate , u can get to the oil filter by disconecting the maf and air box top saves the figh ...
I think possibly the dowel on the lower one must have been slightly off or something because I tightened it up and it wouldn’t slide out 🤷🏻♂️
@@kerbsidemobilemechanicthe taper on the bolt expands the sleve its a fight when they dont slide out have a good easter mate
You too 👍
You get the pleasure of doing the alternator job twice and getting paid once for it unfortunately (i know your pain) .
Chin up👍
Haha I get all the fun jobs
Kerby you don't want the headache of doing a timing belt and it goes wrong I had it happen to me one of the other mechanics undone the crank shaft pulley close he wasn't getting a cut out of my pj it cost me a fortune
Luckily I have no one around me to do that
Just slacken the two inner bolts and it will slide sideways,.
Yeah I tried that but the bottom one just seemed to be ever so slightly tight, I’ll try again when the part fails in a months time 😂
hey fella, what happened to the Cowboy video, i put notifications on waited bleeding hours but still no sign of it....cheers fella
It’s out now mate 👍
CHEERS ON MY WAY NOW@@kerbsidemobilemechanic
Enjoy 👍
Looks like all industries are crap. My old workplace is absolute crap!
I just think they use cheap components so their profits are higher 🤷🏻♂️
@@kerbsidemobilemechanic yeh, the mechanic that did my daughters 57 plate leon insisted on a gates timing kit, INA said crap.
😂😂I’d say it’s the other way round, big talk within the industry with gates kits failing prematurely
@@kerbsidemobilemechanic Bugger! so everyone's at the cheapening game
I’m sure it’ll be fine👍
Seeing more and more refurbished alternators fail it's horrible,in that case do you charge the customer again to fit the new part? bit shit to do but it's not your fault.
No I fitted it for free under warranty fortunately for the customer, unluckily for me 😅
Each to there own but Castrol edge is the best oil in my opinion. Ive used it for years and years in vag group cars ford and currently in my bmw x5.
I’d agree with you, along with Shell oil
Yep shell hellix and perhaps mobil but not used mobil before
Mobil is decent as well tbh, wouldn’t go near triple qx or any of the lesser brands tbh
Yeh i dont either. Pay extra 20 odd pounds and get piece of mind by buying decent. Same with filters 👍
Exactly that 👍
Lucas Prince of darkness
Second person to say that now 😂😂
Are you able to make working for yourself as a mobile technician work?
I tried for almost two years but in the end I went back to working a job in a workshop 😢
Oh yeah without doubt I make it work, what did you struggle with?
@@kerbsidemobilemechanic basically trying to work enough hours when having a really young family, guaranteeing having enough work coming in and having the motivation to get on with it.
Yeah it’s not easy mate at’ll, but think the struggle is worth it
what was the mileage on the vw for the timing belt mate ? as my 2012 caddy 1.6 tdi is on 83000. do you think I should gamble on taking it to 90000 for belt & water pump. £400 better than snapped belt 😏cheers
No no no, deffo don’t gamble, like you say you know it needs doing so do it early to save any potential headaches
VW have now changed their criteria for timing belt change. It's now 150,000 miles. Slightly different for diesel engines. With no time limit stipulated This has brought them into line with the rest of Europe. But still worth checking the condition though on a fairly regular occasion
@@wynhughes9072 cheers mate do you work in the trade ?
Insane that isn’t it
Never buy anything especially cats from online auto parts as the cats are crap and will not pass a MOT but can you get your money back a big fat zero thanks for the video
Oh yeah I’ve learnt the hard way with aftermarket cats/dpf’s, thanks for watching 🤝
Hi Kirby how many hours a week you do ? Too much 😢
Definitely too many 😂
Wrong parts... Hmm would it be ECP by any chance they have been known to chance it😅😅
Was correct parts just faulty 🤦🏻♂️
@@kerbsidemobilemechanic He meant the fuel filter which is for a later van fitted underneath
Oh, yes, correct ones wasn’t even an Orion until dug a bit deeper apparently 🤦🏻♂️
everytime i go to EURo car paets they give me the wrong parts .i have to do their job for them and tell them .its got to the stage as soon as they bring out the part im like thats wrong ,and guess what .its wrong .jokers
Luckily my branch are quite good 99% of the time
I don't know owt about cars have you tried kicking the tyres? Or maybe just rocking the car a bit?
Damn it I didn’t try that, next time though 👍
Bouncing the front suspension usually works too 😂.
what FAILED instantly ?????
Alternator
Mate love your channel but please if you're gonna swear please don't include Jesus in it, say F57k if you must but keep our saviour's name out of it, thank you.
Sorry if any offence was made 👍
