I just went last weekend to a Red Cross facility.
I donate platelets.
I stayed around 2 hours.
If I can help someone to fight cancer, I will definitely do it again.
Not enough. Imagine how much they charge us for the medicine they make with our platelets. Same with blood plasma.
I don't know who's taking your platelets, but the Red Cross charges the hospitals ONLY for the materials used in the collection of the blood products. They don't earn a profit for it, they simply cover their costs.
What are you talking about
They give plasma to sick people um idk what your saying and you also save a life
They dont make medicine with it. They do charge for medical procedures using platelets. Regardless donating is life saving and should be done. You love that others do it when you need it from them.
@@nicolecato634THIS! I had to receive a blood transfusion at birth. My life was literally saved by a kind stranger who made the selfless decision to take time out of their day to donate blood. Regarding compensation for donating blood, laws are in place to prohibit that because otherwise, people who are ineligible to donate blood safely could potentially still try to donate and it could put the safety of the blood supply at risk.
Multibillion dollar business!I got a burger coupon 😂 lol rip off
You only received a burger coupon? There's other companies that'll pay you $$ each visit.
Life saving business
Correction: Life saving
I have a question about this, is the needle different vs regular blood donation?
It is the same needle but not the same system
Is it a good thing or bad thing to the point that I start to worry if I was to have platelets
We all do if you go they will make sure you are eligible fist so no worry
I would do it if the closest location wasn’t 1 hr away…
1 hour ain far
@@SergioGomezSr71 hr drive, donation process 2-3 hours, 1 hr driving back. That’s 4, almost 5 hours. Earliest available time 10 am, after kids drop off. I donate when my kids at school. So won’t be able to go back on time to pick them up at 2.
A day in the life of a platelet donor ? You talk about it like its career choice 😂
Why was I told that only guys could donate platelets 🤨
Pregnant women can get an antibody (HLA) that would be potentially harmful to the recipient, so some places might only allow men to donate. I'm a woman who has never been pregnant and I donate. Women who have been pregnant may be able to get tested for the antibody to determine eligibility
A man needs to get paaaid!
