    Terrific video. I am regular platelet donor, every two weeks. Hydrate before donations, eat well. And importantly, plan to choose what Netflix show you want to watch, in advance. The options these days are limitless. I personally lean towards South Korean shows, they are the best.

    Today after blood donations will try platelet donation. Good nights sleep, well rested, early up and eat healthy, drinking water early and just getting prepped to be there ready to go. I love the Red Cross as they truly help everyone who needs them!

    I completed about 80% of a collection yesterday. Something I didn't know before hand -- and don't see here or elsewhere -- was that at OneBlood here in Orlando I had to squeeze a rubber bulb, similar in practice to a tennis ball, every five seconds for the entire duration of collection. This is apparently necessary to keep the take-up vein open. That's a LoT more effort than noted anywhere I've seen, and when my hand began cramping at 80 minutes the apheresis machine began going into an alarm mode, and eventually I stopped. I may try again, since the need is great, but it was not remotely the relaxing experience described.

    I’m donating platelets today on Sunday, March 17th 2024 at the American 🇺🇸 Red Cross in Cary. I’m both excited and nervous about it.

    Why isn't your 1800 number open on a Sunday night, because my health insurance nurse line didn't know anything about how to treat a bad cut after donating platelets?

      That would probably be a long, dull video if they didn't edit out 95% of it. It's at least a 2½ hr procedure with you needing to be still just laying there for most of it (watching movies or whatever)

    This is old information. They now take it out of and put it back into the same arm - one needle.

    • @HPunch54321
      @HPunch54321 Před rokem +2

      Not necessarily. It depends on the machine used. American Red Cross has apheresis machines that use both arms, whereas New York Blood Center has machines that use one arm.

    • @bodontknowsuperbowl
      @bodontknowsuperbowl Před rokem +2

      @@HPunch54321 The South Texas Blood and Tissue Center uses one arm. The advantage of course is that you have one arm free during the donation. I am not sure why they will still use machines that use both arms when they now have machines that use one arm. I guess there is a reason. Maybe it just takes time to phase out the old machines.
