We had all those kits, but in the end, the stupid cheap purple spiral light was actually the best. Go figure. probably a hundred dollars worth of lights and the 5 dollar one works the best.
I also had a game gear. Money not well spent by my dad.
I didn't have the accessory, so I held a small flashlight for camping in my mouth while hidden under my bedsheets to play Tetris..
Backlight was one of the greatest inventions. Made it so the return ride on a car trip wasn't so terrible

I wasn't a 90's kid but I am a 2000's kid and I did do most of these things, and I do remember seeing Socker Bopper ads on TV (they were still running).
When I was in high school my school held a fair at the end of every school year, and students got to pick what events and things they wanted to organize. Seniors got top priority for picking. A friend of mine and I held an arcade in the girl's locker room. I brought my NES and Atari 2600, my friend brought his Nintendo Switch. We found some old CRT TVs for my consoles and for my friend's Switch we found a projector and a huge sheet of paper that we taped to a wall. We also got a big couch to sit on which we miraculously managed to fit into the room. The fair started at the end of the school day so when lunchtime came around, I snuck out of the cafeteria and went to the girl's locker room in the gym. (It was off limits for changing). So I spent the rest of the period eating a burger and playing old video games on the couch.
