I have heard no other artist who can sing and play perfectly literally anywhere like this chap. He is a rare talent.
Same her
Have you ever heard a song that feels as though the singer has heard about your life then entered that tiny space in your mind where you hide you darkest deepest fears, fears you've never told a living soul?
I just did when I heard this.
I lost my first wife, then left England and remarried in New York. The marriage was a disaster, call it rebound or whatever but we did have one beautiful daughter born in 2005. I returned to England in 2008 and haven't been permitted to see my daughter since she was 3 years old.
My secret fear as a smoker has always been that I'd die before I ever got to see her again, before I could tell her she was with me in my thought every single day and before I could explain that not being there when she grew up was a decision taken away from me.
Boy this song hits home harder than Ray La Montagne's "New York City's killing me".
Beautifully written and beautifully sung.
i know exactly, and i mean EXACTLY what you mean. I have a huge connection with 'underwater bride' by Passenger, very personal memory which gets to me every time. im really sorry about your situation, thats a really rough one, thats partly why I've given up smoking, because I'd be worried about leaving any kids I have too early for a stupid habit. Hope things go well for you mate, you'll see her and she'll understand I promise.
PACK IN THE FAGS DUDE.....
It may buy you, in some strange ways ,
Some memories for your child,
And some last breaths and beautiful days,
'Cause we're not on this earth, for long,
As you can hear in Passenger's song,
So don't wait for life to bang that gong,
...And leave your child trying to right your every wrong...one generation...ON.
My favourite song ever, thank you.
MEET HER
@The Looney Limey
Have you gone back?
So sad yet so beautiful. Rarely I read such a touching lyrics...
this makes me cry, every fucking time.. love it
Saw him do this song live, honestly stunned the audience and me to complete silence, the story of how he met the man and how it was all real brought people to tears
I saw him, too, and heard about this story....
Yes! I remember the same thing when he was in PDX. ♥️
You, sir....are excellent.
His voice is so beautiful and unique!!!
This needs more views. This has more meaning than every pop song released in the past few years. Keep being awesome man!
2023...and still has more meaning than almost every pop song until now.
The guy is a poet
When I first listened this song, it hadn't the same meaning as a few months later... A close friend of mine got sick, and he lives in NY, while I'm in Spain, long way away... Life is based on surrealism and irony, at least mine... I have written this short poem inspired by Passenger and my friend...
My old boots were the witness,
I bought that ticket to New York.
I was not afraid of skyscrapers,
not afraid of the bandits.
Desert plains in mid-ocean,
islands inhabitated by children's screams.
I stepped on American land,
breathing dreams.
Breathing hope.
I walked to the uncertainty,
excited from heart to feet.
My head, already lost.
I was not afraid of the fifth avenues ,
or the forgotten cowboys.
I swallowed that knot, with courage.
That call waiting, eternal,
needed to be answered.
I was not afraid of skyscrapers,
but of the stairs toward them.
I was afraid of your suffocation,
your fatigue,
your surprised bright eyes.
The earth that inhabites in its color.
The pain they are hiding.
The miracle they are waiting.
Where, where will I find you?
When, when will I embrace you?
Playlist of one song,
verses of sweetness, congratulating me
with your voice.
If I could I would walk barefoot through the snow.
If I know the address,
my paper cranes would be flying
stirring the strands of your hair,
while awaiting the dawn.
They would not notice your dull skin,
not would feel your body weak.
I was not afraid of skyscrapers,
I was frightened of your no breathing.
I was afraid of the fate.
All Way to you, to New York.
Breathe, breathe deeply and painlessly.
Feel the joy in the light of your eyes.
Breathe, and live.
Live, please.

sibihontas You write beautifully. And urgently.
thank you for your words :)Bill Rawthee
+sibihontas can you ghost write for me such poems! I pay, but then I gain full ownership as mine?
+Graham Osano ...bit naughty....don't you think????...you'd fit well into the Music Industry though.
This man knows his song before he sings it. I can feel the collaboration of Cat Stevens and Bob Dylan here. Absolutely beautiful!
Absolutely
He's so amazing:').
how is it possible that everything he writes is so beautiful?
amazing lyrics, once again!
Micheal, if on the odd chance you read this - you're guitaring, you're lyrics and you're voice are filled with such perfection. Thank you for giving music meaning again.
Ive seen Passenger live and he's a amazing artist and i liked the stories he tells at a gig about how he come to write his songs great artist.
This is so beautiful. Made me cry a little. Beautifully written and sung. I hope the old man made it
I'm just crying everytime I hear this song. It's so touching!
Here's a thought...
Imagine if you will, the patience of this man singing this beautiful song above...and how completely overwhelmed he has been of late after having been discovered after a wait of ten years or so that folk love what he does. Suddenly one song rises from what seems like an eternity and half of the world realises that they are staring down the barrel of complete and utter genuine, music industry, life-changing creativity.
There would have been so many ups and downs along his path and yet despite taking all of the knocks and blows which come with the territory of song-writing, Mike(Passenger) dusts himself off and just damned well gets on with what really matters....writing and singing ORIGINAL songs..and sharing them with the world.
Whilst he won't be everyone's cup of tea(sometimes TEA can be over-rated anyway)....well, he has to be one of, if not THE most inspirational of human beings who walks and breathes on this planet.
If i, as a long term writer of songs myself which now seem to be flying after the same period of time(google JASMINE LAMPORT) could put this patience thing into a wrapper and bottle it up with a solitary saying it would go as follows:
NEVER EVER GIVE UP!!!!...DESPITE THE DOUBTERS ALONG THE WAY WHO COME IN VARIOUS WALKS OF YOUR LIFE,....e.g. SO-CALLED FRIENDS WHO WALKED AWAY, SO-CALLED FAMILY MEMBERS WHO HAVE SNUBBED YOU, SO-CALLED FELLOW MUSICIANS WHO HAVE RIDICULED YOUR CREATIVITY, SO-CALLED FELLOW HUMAN BEINGS WHO HAVE QUESTIONED YOUR SANITY, SO CALLED SUPPORTERS WHO EVENTUALLY TURNED THEIR BACKS ON YOU, SO-CALLED COMMUNICATORS WHO "FORGOT" TO CALL YOU(mmmm..ok then!!).......and stay true to your art and write on and on into the dark, snowy evenings of winter and the sunny early mornings of the dawns of summer....and....SHOCK 'EM ALL.
i-Tunes sales are worth the journey but should never be the driving force....CREATIVITY IS KEY!!!!
THANK YOU TO EVERYONE WHO HAS BOUGHT A DOWNLOAD OF JASMINE LAMPORT....YOU ROCK MY WORLD..and truly make the first thing i reach for...A PEN and a sheet of A4!!!
D.Parsons(Songwriter...and wrong-righter!!)
+dave parsons brother, i feel you, i know those lonely nights where you can only listen to the sound of the pen in the paper, hope you can get to wherever you want.
Drsavation....your response is the power in the battery which drives me onwards.....THANK YOU FOR RESPONSE....AWESOME!!
Ren would agree, as would Tom McDonald, I am certain.
It's been 3 years since I first listened to this song and I'm still moved to tears literally every time I listen to it. It's a hauntingly beautiful piece. It reminds me a lot of the poem On Living by Hazim Mikmet.
i think its his voice that makes everything perfect omfg
10 years on and I’m still listening to this masterpiece..Keep shining Michael 🙏🏾
My absolutely favorite Passenger song - in exact this version - an amazing piece of music, really!
I love this song !
Yes. Emotion. Storytelling
This is such a beautiful song. Bless you, Michael Rosenberg. This song brings me to tears
Smokers will tell you not to smoke for a reason.
I swear this song could've been made for my Grandfather. Every detail except meeting in Minnesota describe him and his life perfectly.
your music hits a place i am glad to be able to relate to. Peace brother.
This is the most beautiful song.
Really like that voice. Glad my son had one of the songs playing in his room earlier......
An hour and 33 minutes on my laptop battery. Will use it to listen to Passenger songs.
Awesome comment Adam...might want to save 3 minutes and 20 secs for BREATHE by JASMINE LAMPORT(SONIC FOXX VERSION)...google it....enjoy....best comment i've seen in a while Adam...like you..can't put Passenger down...like a good book.
+Adam Nicholson that makes sense
Nearly in tears listening to this on the train... Another brilliant song!
God! I just can't help my Passenger obsession. I live in Turkey so I don't think they will come here any time soon... Well actually they might. I don't know! It's just it is so amazing that I love closing my eyes and imagine whenever a song of them plays. I open the sound of rain from youtube , then add an acoustic passenger song , make myself a cup of coffee , close my eyes. Just magical...
I love your voice man.
When you sang this in Austin you had me sobbing, standing next to my friend Glen Brown (yes the same one). I lost my mom and brother suddenly to cancer in early 2011, and it changed my life. I take photos (I was in the pit in Austin in fact) and write about music because it's a passion I must follow. When our lives get put into perspective through an interaction or an event like this, we know what we have to do and the rest of the clutter just falls away. What matters most are the people we touch, the happiness we create and experience, and being true to ourselves and what we are supposed to do.
A little gift for you Amy...BREATHE by JASMINE LAMPORT(SONIC FOXX VERSION BEST QUALITY)....enjoy...google her.
Somebody recently commented with the following...seems he instinctively knows...
" it's a little bit great isn't it?:) "
SONIC FOXX(home of original SONGS..no videos required!!) Get the fuck out of here with your shameless plugs
SHAMELESS plugs....if there is one thing i have zero shame of it's asking folk to listen to "BREATHE by JASMINE LAMPORT(Sonic Foxx version)"...or any other of her songs just around the corner to hit the net...if you actually bothered to give it three minutes of your time and checked her out you might see why some random dude threw out this comment about Jasmine's ORIGINAL song...."IT'S A LITTLE BIT GREAT ISN'T IT?:)" ....
I'm not saying it is or it isn't....but here's the thing...say BREATHE turned out to be "not bad"....would that not mean that two minutes of writing this to you Gofaw was worth it for the possible pleasure other folk out there reading this who "got the song" and liked it have made this "shameless plug"(your words..not mine) worth putting fingers to the keyboard...if you think it is crap, trite, rubbish, unworthy, not worth a listen,...then it isn't for YOU...interestingly one of the other comments on BREATHE states the following..."NORMALLY I DON'T AGREE WITH FOLK PUTTING THEIR SONGS ON OTHER FOLK'S CZcams FILMS...SAYING THAT, I REALLY LOVE HER VOICE".
It seems to me that "shameless plugs" bring decent new music to fans...maybe i should name a website SHAMELESSPLUGS.COM!!!!
P.S. I LOVE PASSENGER'S RIDING TO NEW YORK..which is the main reason i came here..to thank him for inspiring me...to CO-WRITE "BREATHE"
YES! He sung this just a few nights ago at a concert in Dublin! It's such an awesome song, I'm honored to be one of the first few people to hear this, before the majorities.
Was in tears by the first chorus :')
this will be the song playing on my funeral
Passenger Forever.
This is my happy place ❤️ god I wish I could Express how much I love this guy
I can’t think of anyone I’d rather sit and have a drink with and just talk, more than Mike. Absolutely my favorite artist and storyteller. I imagine bouncing my songs off of him, even collabing with him to tell our stories… that would complete me as a person, it really would ❤️🎶
Great job, Mike (and Stu)! Although it is way too early in the day to be practically weeping, I do love this song. So sad in an inspirational way. Thank you.
damn... this song has some power... these days it is all about the fame and money but they all lack soul... this one floors me...
Something sweet and endearing in his voice that I just cannot resist.
The start of this song makes me cry every time I hear it. I lost my grandad 2 years ago to lung cancer and it just hits it so hard home.
Really one of the most beautiful songs you written yet
This is what you call music...:)
One of the saddest songs in existence. Beautiful.
Best ever artist. Steals hearts effortlessly.
this song, coin in a fountain and 24 are my fav on album. but all songs are great
27 :D i love whispers and golden leaves :D
i am a 23 year old man and i have no shame in saying this made me teary eyed
Google JASMINE LAMPORT'S "WHY?".....and get the kleenex out...and never be ashamed.
You never stop surprising me.. So beautiful, so pure. Music for the soul.
He has changed my life in so many ways. I am so excited for the new album.
I love Passenger, with all my heart. But he's very rare in my country (Chile). If some of you could help me getting him here. If he can't do Chile, at least Argentina. I'm 13 years old and I know that for my age and my money I can't travel to Europe as much as I want to. I can't see him. And I know all his songs, I have all his albums and I also know every single thing about him. Please, if you're reading this help me met him. I don't care if I don't get to touch him or speak to him (with Mike listening to me), just watch him and sing with him. I will be the happiest 13 year old girl in the planet. I just... need to see him...
También soy Chilena y me encanta Passenger ❤️
¡Tiene que venir!
Is it June yet??? I need this new album in my life.
I feel so glad that we have an opportunity to see this before the album comes out, but I've been so addicted for so much time now, I hope he includes some songs that aren't anywhere, if he doesn't, it'll still be 10/10 will buy !
What I admire most in this artist, taking the talent that is divine, it is simplicity that demonstrates in his video clips. I hope you continue like this and that fame and money do not change your way of being, the world needs the simplicity of the people to be more pure and beautiful. Congratulations and much success (i from PORTUGAL)
Beautiful~ this song goes out to a precious friend we recently lost in St. Johns~may he ride forever free~LOVE & RESPECT~
Amazin!!!!!!! One of my favourite songs. Who the fuck has dared thumbs down this!!!!!!
+Strange_Nightmares ..the THUMBS DOWN brigade should RUN...this dude has an army of fans....and RIGHTLY SO!!!!
Well, I met him in Minnesota
It was dark and overcast
With long, grey hair and eyes that stared
Through me like I was glass
I asked "Where are you going to?"
He said, "I'm the wind I'm just blowing through."
He lit up a cigarette and began to talk
"See the doctors told me that my body won't hold me
My lungs are turning black
Been a lucky strike's fool since I was at school
And there ain't no turning back
They can't tell me how long I've got
Maybe months but maybe not
I'm taking this bike and riding to New York
'Cause I wanna see my grand-daughter one last time
Wanna hold her close and feel her tiny heartbeat next to mine
Wanna see my son and the man he's become
Tell him I'm sorry for the things I've done
And I'd do it if I had to walk
I'm taking this bike and riding to New York
Through the forests of Wisconsin that I knew as a boy
Past the sky line of Chicago
Round the lakes of Illinois
I lay my head in a motel bed where my back is sore and my eyes turn red
Listen to the trucks roll past my door
Through the fields of Ohio as the sunshine paints them gold
I run just like a river runs, rapid, quick and cold
And fly through Pennsylvania and the Jersey turnpike tolls
And I won't stop 'till I get to New York
'Cause I wanna see my grand-son one last time
Wanna see his eyes sparkling and stare back into mine
Now my time is shorter
I wanna see my daughter
Tell her all the things that I should have taught her
And I'd do it if I had to walk
Oh, I'm taking this bike I'm riding to New York
And I'd go up to the churchyard one last time
Lay flowers down for the woman who gave me the best years of my life
And I'd do it if I had to walk
I'd do it if I had to walk
I'm taking this bike and riding to New York"
Another masterpiece of heartbreak. So beautiful.
I moved to Colorado from Indiana after this song came in life love it
This cat is good!!
My uncle smokes. I showed him this song, he has decided to quit. Thankyou.
.....result....hope he lives a longer life than he may have...thanks to you and Passenger combined.
Beautiful song. Could listen to his voice all day x
What an amazing songwriter and talent. One of a kind. Music as it should be. Thanks Mike.
Best song ever?
I think I know this place. Its in Santry Park.
Finally, a music video without playback. Real and beautiful.
Love love love.....saw him live in St Annes sq m'cr 'buskin', loved every min ov it
Great song. But for the love of all good things don't roll your jeans up lol
loooool
💀💀💀💀💀
i just quitted smoking now..
I can't directly relate to the lyrics he's written, but I can relate to the emotion he feels with every song he sings. He has a real talent for speaking to the soul. I might be in love...
This is a "time machine" song Rachel..if it reaches you now(which it obviously has), in the future it will appear again at some point and you'll realise this song can and will appear at some point or points in the future and be totally relevant to your life...just like somebody you know travelling through time...where you think.."oh yeh..i get it totally now"...at point it will then not just be a great song. It will be an awesome song.
It is like meeting somebody now in the street and thinking.."i like that person", then going your separate ways, then at some point in the distant future, meeting them again....and marrying them..and having kids with them.
How do i know this??.....i met my wife in our teens and dated her for two months, dated and was in and out of relationships, many relationships for the next fourteen years when suddenly, on a chance meeting we met again...and WE KNEW...we just knew...and now, seventeen years later there is a fourteen year old walking the planet who, together, we started life off for.
My point is this. When i met my future wife, i had no idea just how good a person she was until i had been with others. This song above is the same..you will come back to it in the future and it will mean so much more to you. Of this you can be sure.
The cleverest thing about this song is the way the singer invites you in to be any of the many characters involved all of the way through the song.
An opinion as a songwriter myself....THIS SONG IS SUPERB!!
Good luck with your life Rachel...things will all work out right.
Regards,
Sonic Foxx.
passenger manages to make me want to listen to any story he has to tell through his amazing music!
Passenger has ruined music for me. In a good way. Ive got all his music and now its all i listen to. Once in a blue moon i turn the radio on, few moments later Passenger.
his voice just instantly calms me down no matter what i'm feeling
I also love the fact that you can hear the wildlife and busses/cars in the background.
Beautiful Passenger 's perfection.
The best song Passenger has ever written. Extraordinary stuff.
This song, and Passenger as a whole has been a huge influence for me as a musician. Keep making amazing music.
stop being so GOOD.
kidding, don't ever stop. you make me happy.
Beautiful song. Listened to it hundreds of times this week alone
This is unbelievable! This is an artist. How many artists can actually do this for a video?
This song moved me into tears. These are very well written lyrics. Thank you for sharing your sound as it is greatly appreciated.
His songs + his voice = amazing
I cry everytime I hear this song, when you played it on tour everyone went silent, it is beautiful and so Is the story behind it! I think about the man you told us about a lot, god bless him x
so beautiful
How can anyone not like this song?
Such a good singer and the songs beautiful lyrics are so powerful
This song makes me cry every time, when I heard it live in London I was sobbing like crazy, especially after hearing the story behind it... I hope it's on his new album !
There’s one line in this song that grabs me more than the rest. It has nothing to do with the basic meaning of the rest of the song. “Want to see my son and the man he’s become. Tell him I’m sorry for the things I’ve done “”. I haven’t seen my son in over 10 years and I miss him and wish he’d come home.
This song is such a great song. It's my favorite song from the album and favorite song in general.
now this is what you call music! just beautiful!
Seeing him in Glasgow on the 14th! My girlfriend bought the tickets for my birthday, i was so surprised! I love her so much and she is letting me see my favourite artist with her!
Happy Kieran.
Michael, this song is one of the best i've ever heard. Thanks for sharing it.It reminds me a little bit of the great song "The River" by Springsteen. The tune of the intro and first line have the same chords if i'm not mistaken, and the line "I run just like a river runs, rapid, quick and cold. And fly through Pennsylvania and the Jersey turnpike tolls" could have been written by the boss himself.I just love it.Hope to see you soon in the Netherlands.
This song means so much to me already... Beautiful!
So... Again with the genius songwriting! Very honest and truthful lyrics sung thoughtfully about someone else's journey.
I heard Mike telling the story behind this song and it amazes me how this song stays so close to it. Genius Mike.
Reminds me of what my grandfather was like passenger is the only one that could write something like this with such feeling and emotion
Beautiful. Absolutely beautiful.
Best gig of my life by far, he's a great performer.
This is an example of pure and undiluted talent.love it
