    Anyone who has ever grown and harvested their own peonies knows that the stems and buds are filled with a sticky, syrupy sap. While this sticky sap may seem inconvenient, it is the food that keeps the peony alive. And, The more carbohydrate that a cut flower contains the longer they will last. In this tulip Tuesday video Leanne shares a technique for long term storage of peonies. Enjoy!

    Wonderful tip for keeping peonies. I wonder what other flowers this can be used on?

    • @FlowerSchool
      @FlowerSchool  Před 2 lety +1

      That's an interesting question, LadyEliza7! We have found that this works best for peonies, but you can try it with other flowers too. It may work for some but not for others. Whatever you do, please let us know how it works out for you. Running your own floral experiments is the best way to learn how to keep your flowers fresh and beautiful. Thank you very much for spending some time with us today and we hope that we'll see you again soon. Wishing you the very best in all that you do and please have a wonderful weekend!

    Great tip! Thank you! Does the peony needs more days to hydrate and bloom after they have been stored this way?

    • @FlowerSchool
      @FlowerSchool  Před 4 lety +1

      That's an excellent question, Tannaz! Just give the flowers a fresh cut and place them in clean water with flower food, and they should hydrate as they normally do. You will have beautiful peonies in no time at all. Thanks so much for watching our show, and we look forward to seeing you again very soon!

    Thank you very much for all the tips and tricks! Can I dry store peonies that have been hydrated at the wholesalers? Also, can I dry store other flowers like this as well? Thanks again!!!

    • @FlowerSchool
      @FlowerSchool  Před 2 lety

      Those are great questions, FlowerNsword! It may work for peonies that have been hydrated already, but it's probably better for those that have been freshly cut and shipped. This doesn't work as well for other flowers, especially those that are thirsty like hydrangeas, but the best way to find out is test it on your own. Leanne loves to run experiments with different flowers and we encourage you to do so too. It's an excellent way to determine what will work and what won't for certain blooms. Thanks so much for taking time to watch our show today and we hope that you will stop by again soon. Wishing you all the best and please have a lovely week!

    Can you do this same thing with tulips if you leave the bulb attached to the plant?

    • @FlowerSchool
      @FlowerSchool  Před 2 lety

      That's an interesting question, Ohio Garden Goddess 1984! Some flower farmers do leave the bulbs attached to the plants as a way to continue nourishing them. It's not typically done in floral design, but that doesn't mean you can't try it and see what happens. Leanne encourages everyone to experiment with their flowers so you know what will happen in a moment when you need to design with them. Thank you so much for stopping by to learn more about long term peony storage, and we hope that we will see you again soon, whenever you have the time. Wishing you happiness and flowers wherever you go!
