I like to think outside the box and go against the grain....few days ago i cut some Peony (at a public area in my neighborhood, very 1st time) i didn't know how to care for them so i turned to CZcams, i had many small unopened, immature buds on the stems with the fully mature ones, based on the suggestions (that the buds have to be a certain size to fully open) i felt bad discarding the baby buds, i decided to keep them and placed them in a small vase of water 5/29/22 & add some cut flower food. *I AWOKE ON 5/30 & TO MY SURPRISE ALL THE LITTLE BABIES POPPED OPEN, BY 5/31 MORE ARE OPENING....I HAVE ALL THESE PUFFY BALLS OF BLOOMS, SOOOO BEAUTIFUL!!😁 🤗🥰💖
Thank you, thank you, thank you! I'm relativity new to peonies and my plants are around 5 years old. Hubby has been very sick this winter/spring and I never got the chance to place my supports in to help my waist high beauties withstand even a single heavy rain. I planted them a little too close to a towering clematis and they develop a lean away from it to begin with and a huge rain and wind is forcast and knowing that all is not lost eases my heart! I didn't know that I could cut them before fully open! I figured the still unopened side buds would be a loss should the stalk lie down. I would've just cut them off believing they wouldn't bloom if cut.
This past fall I planted 2 new bare root varieties and one plant managed to squeak out 3 buds it's first season! I thought that I was going to need to wait a few years to see any flowers. I'm glad that one plant managed to push out a few for me. I suppose the site is to her liking!
Can I pick a newly planted bare root plant's buds? I have one bud this year (I think it's my plant's 2nd year of life, maybe 3rd) Can I pick it for a vase yet or should I wait another year?

Hello, the will bloom again next year. Peonies only bloom one time a year.
