GotTech Episode 1: Pioneer PD-M6

- Back in 1986, Pioneer released the first CD changer, a magazine-based unit called the PD-M6. The magazines were interchangeable and could be used at home and in the car (which Pioneer desperately wanted), though the technology didn't catch on here in the U.S. as they'd anticipated. (We were mostly fine with single-disc units or with carousel changers.)
For my first GotTech video, I wanted to take a deeper look into these Pioneer changers and think a little bit about the depth and breadth of their impact. Enjoy, and please leave comments in…well, in the comments!
NB: The Technology Connections video I reference about carousel CD changers is here:

Who’s here from Techmoan’s recommendation? Looking forward to hearing more from you Ben. 👍
Thanks, Maltho! I appreciate the kind words!
👋
who is here from the defunct 2020 ramones class, Dylan here. Great Vid Mr Gott, keep it up
I am still using this cd deck as my main cd player. It's a trooper and it keeps on going year after year.
Here from Techmoan! I really liked the bio at the beginning. I had the same interests when I was a kid as well. That Land Cruiser is MASSIVE! Great video Ben!
Thank you, Eddie!
Excellent video!
Great video, I’m a Patreon of both Alec and Mat, so your content is much appreciated here. I’d love to know more about that KLF gold cassette!
Man oh man, there might even be a video there! I bought that at a totally strange "record fair" up in Woodstock, New York that this British ex-pat holds in his yard (like, under several tents) each May. It was just sitting there, and I said, "Excuse me, Sir, but how much for The KLF?" He replied, "How about $20?" It may be the best $20 I've ever spent at one of those places!
Thanks so much for watching!
Great video!
I still occasionally listen to my Pioneer Magazine-based CD Changer: the PD-Z82M.
Still sounds excellent and the mechanism still works great.
Thank you so much for your comment, Joris, and I'm glad you enjoyed the video!
Interesting and calm video 👍 subbed
I'm subbing, Ben. Great vid and you have been into the vintage gear for as long as I've known you so this is a perfect outlet for all your gadgets.
im here from Techmoan!! Subbed!!
Thank you, James!
Well done ! I have this player.
Here from Techmoan
Welcome, and thanks for checking the video out!
Pulled this player out of my attic. Plugged in I get no lights, no button response, just clicking like a relay, about 2-3 clicks/second. Any ideas? It was pretty cold so letting it warm up to room temp before trying again. Worked when I put it into storage a few years back. Thanks!
I'm not sure-the electrics are beyond my level of expertise, I'm afraid!
