The wonderful remarks about breath and spirit being the same thing put me in mind of a poem by Gerald Manley entitled the blessed Virgin compared to the air we breathe... "Wild air, world mothering air, nestling me everywhere..."

what an enjoyable introduction to such a deep thinker. I have the growing sense he was the Father of the Inklings - the impact of his thought seems to be emerging everywhere in the fiction of his friends. And I love the renewed meaning given to Odin's sacrifice and our current time - a necessary sacrifice that takes time, even if it blinds us in the short term.

Owen Barfield work needs to be made into Audiobooks. It will spread his work like never before, works about his works have to made into Audiobook form. It will change everything

I fear his works would be very hard to follow along for many people, as it would for me. I have to read every sentence many times over in his books to understand what he is getting at, and there is a lot of Greek and Latin and French thrown in to confuse me.
I have listened to Mark Vernon's "A secret history of Christianity", which is a book about Barfields ideas also available in audiobook, which is great, and relatively easy to follow along with.

It’s done wonders for the circulation of Rudolf Steiner, it seems to have led to rebirth and resurgence even of Anthroposophy. Barfield’s essay, ‘Equity Between Man and Man’, is a treasure chest as well for honest interpersonal relations/trust

@@thatguyitsme7707 Sure. I was just pointing out that audiobook format doesn't seem to me be the best for consuming his original works.
Anyway, since you mentioned Steiner. What is the deal with him? I see him referenced a lot by Barfield, but not really so much what he adds to the table. What is his insight? Or what topic is he great on?

Enlivening - I hope to meet up at some point.
Confucious was once asked what he would do if he was in the reigns of power.
(In his own tongue of course,) he said "I would redeem the dictionary'.
    The Wind
    What is the wind
    that blows all things
    yet never itself is seen?
    Some say its all
    just moving air
    but that's all their words
    have ever been
    Yet the wind that blows
    has ever been
    to know
    you must leap
    as a bird
    to the wind
    as one
    with the wind
    moving
    all
    things

I am moved to invite you to look at what can be called 'Plasma Mythology' which is a development of - among other things - Velikovskian assertions that mythic record holds historical account of human experience - for which he was ridiculed and 'excommunicated', and the explorations from that of Electric Force in the Universe at a level currently accepted orthodoxy confines to the atomic, but which the emergence of plasma physics is unfolding to me and others as primary nature of Energetic expression - the realm of change as a total Communication - or non separation, rather than objects of forces and densities impacting each other - but to keep to my point - This opens a way to read and account for our 'starting place' in terms at least of a human self-consciousness that is denied primarily by the worldview of Uniformitarian gradualism - which in my shorthand is the religion of 'millions of years' projected backward (and often forwards) fas the idea that the world or Cosmos is essentially the same stretching back in our past - apart from some human influences and a few ice ages - as now. Which Barfield directly challenges even without external reflections such as I mention.
For myself I have been opened to inspiration such as to come into the religious or spiritual appreciation through the back door in a sense - but could never understand - for example why the Bible has a God that raises and moves mountains - for example. Or why the gods were for the most part Planets and a zillion other things about our ancient past that we cannot read because in part yes we are looking AT and seeking explanation but also because their world was actually different.
Our pre-historic human records are designated as mythic fable but internalised as archetypal patterns of actual experience that is also coincident with what we see as the sudden appearance of civilisations that were - for example city states with god-kings and priesthoods, and artisans capable of extraordinary works without apparently the technology to achieve it. But I am not here to persuade but only to point.
Velikovsky saw a mankind in Amnesia in which trauma is suppressed and distantiated - and I can see this dissociation or alienation as a progressive process of developing abilities, consciousness and cultural development of a fundamentally split mind that progressively lost its awareness and connection to the Movement of Being - not least by all attempt to get it back, restore it or overcome perceived obstacles to its restoration. To the point of a negatively polarised identification in fear and threat as reality as war for which all must be then subverted to 'survive' as the sense of private possession and control - which is to mask in the forms of truth rather than let truth abide in us and through us in relational appreciation.
Some may feel threatened by ideas that bring a different light on accepted interpretation but I do not see undermining of the true so much as its revelation in more interrelating reflections. Truth is written on our Hearts and not in things-in-themselves -and to listen there is to look and learn and receive of the Holy Spirit - which is nothing more than our 'right Mind in the sense of correcting error that moves to the restoring of our whole Mind
