Minimalist Mountain Islands Paludarium (Rock Filtered)

- I've been considering a minimalist paludarium or aquascape for awhile now. After dismantling a few setups and realizing that the structure from the Fern Rock Planter would be perfect for a build, like this, I got to work. I think this was a great way to reuse previous assets and create some cool. What do you think?
I realize a minimal type design is not everyone's cup of tea, but I thick it's pretty neat and adds variety to the animal room. As I said in the video, there's something about the open/negative space that makes everything else pop, which makes it very interesting to observe... In my opinion at least.
Let me know what you think in the comments and enjoy the video!

This one's a little different, but I really like how it turned out! What do you think of minimal designs, like this? I also think the Glowlight Danios are a great choice for this scape. I'm curious, though, what else do you think would go well in this setup? Let me know! I want to do more with this once I move it to the new animal room, so you're suggestions are appreciated.
Also, I feel like I should say that the footage of the fish schooling at the end is played in real-time. They're super fast, so it appears to be sped up, but that's just how fast they are. I knew they would school well, but I didn't expect them to be this energetic. Definitely, a great option if you're looking for a pretty, tight-schooling fish.
Anyway, I hope you all enjoyed the video, and have a great weekend SerpaSquad!

I think maybe some small aquatic grass like plants could help. It would then look a bit like a seagrass meadow (or a normal meadow) as well as giving the fish a place to hide and complimenting the sand.
Hypostomus Plecostomus may look great with the lava, and there very clean ?❔❓
To the guy who moved his entire collection to a new location also creates content at the same time. Legendary, how you moved us along with you as well. Mr.Serpa you are a great artist no doubt.
Looks like 2 islands surrounded by a sandy and clear ocean. Has that tropical theme to it. would love to see other smaller creatures to inhibit this paludarium
I agree. Shrimp would be a cool addition!
Crabs
Some crabs would look amazing in this build.
A axolotl would be cool
Tai spider micro crabs and dwarf praecox rainbows would be cool for this scape
Personally I think that some darker varieties of cherry shrimp would really add some pop to the sand area without messing up the amazing minimalist vibe. They would also help to clean up a bit. :)
I was thinking shrimp also :)
If shrimp, more like blue shrimp or Bloody Maries, but I'm more on the side of Thai microcrabs and pompom crabs and mini blue crayfish
Seems like a tank that would never get boring to watch at home while being super zen
Recently I made my first terrarium using local materials. MegaTron (my pray mantis) is loving his new home! Thanks for the encouragement Tanner🔥❤️
ayyy megatron lmao
Great name for a mantis
I really like the name of yor mantis
All mantises deserve an awesome name
I visited your channel hoping for a terrarium and all I got was a pair of boobs :(
You’re like Bob Ross for terrariums. So relaxing to watch and listen to!
I love the simplicity of this one. The fish look very happy with lots of room.
Very Feng shui! I love the minimal look the white sand, black rock contrast, it highlights the open space even more and the active tight schooling fish is the perfect addition center piece commanding the attention from the viewer. I don't think its a coincidence your first build in your new, large more open place is reflective of your new working environment:)
Theres something so relaxing about this one. It reminds me of a vacation
Thinking a smaller planted lava rock submerged so as to carry the minimal theme into the water as well,.... a mini green on black focal point to bring the two worlds together.
Congrats on the new animal room ! Looking great ! This one is a little too minimalistic for me, but I like how you put it all together....and it is pretty cool watching the danios swarm in and around the rock. Great choice of stock for that tank ! I was thinking....maybe some vampire crabs to crawl around on the rock and in and out of the water, but....not sure how they might bother the plants.....however, maybe a vampire crab habitat down the road sometime would be a neat addition to this little bio happy place you're creating in your basement ! 😘👌
I love the minimalist design approach on this one. It's beautiful, and you dared to create strong shapes that stand out. The fish were just the perfect touch of life and movement. My favourite part of your videos is when you introduce animals to their new habitat and you can just tell they're going to thrive. I'd love to see more designs with striking visuals and negative space like this in the future! much love from Denmark
This combo of scape and fish might be your best one yet!
Beautiful design! And the first time I saw these fish schooling was a real "wow" moment. The simplicity of the tank really helps to highlight their awesome behavior. I can easily picture losing track of time by watching them...
Another active, tight-schooling group of fish that would have looked really nice are rummy nose tetras. I think the black and white flag tails would reinforced the black and white hardscape and the red nose would have added cool color contrast. Beatiful layout anyway!
I love the look of this one! It reminds me of when I lived in Hawaii with the lava rock and white sand.
Just from the thumbnail you can tell its going to be a good video!😂
Every time!!
Wow, the space is already looking good from the angle you are at. Those spiral stairs with the glowing tanks looks like something sci fi
Cool! It's soothing to look at a tank that only has a few carefully chosen things going on. And If you get bored with the tank it's easy to rescape.
Love the choice of minimalism with this type of fish.
As a minimalist, I’m inspired by your implementation of the philosophy into the hobby of terrariums. I’m going to try this as well.
Awesome scape! I also think it would be cool if you could do a salt water aquarium, maybe also some type of crustacean, like crawdad because they are supposedly pretty easy to keep and their behavior is really cool to watch.
Ya, I was thinking something like that as well but crawdads don't have a minimalistic look to them. If it were salt water I would say a hermit crab, but since fresh, maybe a snail or something else that I don't know about.
He has a crapload of aquarium salt in the background of some recent videos. He’s planning some kind of saltwater setup.
I was thinking dark, muddy river bottom for the crawdads
Very nice work, Tanner. You were right about the impact of dark rock and white sand. And the quick-moving, tight-schooling fish moving through this minimalist waterscape are almost hypnotic. Being able to shift your approach to suit the project is a mark of the professional. But you still bring an artist's eye to the composition.
Looks gorgeous as usual! Amazing to see the first scape in the new room.
That is beautiful, those fish love their new home 💜💜💜
Dude. The first shot with the staircase looks fire.
I love the way those danios school! So glad to see them go through the hole.
This looks so cool 🌿
I really like the simplicity of the design, especially with these fish, they have plenty of space to steal the show
I love the simplicity and those fish are so much fun! Sometimes I wish I could shrink down and live in a Serpa-scape myself 😂
Less is DEFINITELY more here. So elegant!
Turned out great! Those fish are so cute and fun to watch.
I was iffy about the scape being so open and minimalistic but I do love getting to see the danio’s behaviour so clearly! They’re fascinating! I’m a bit more of a maximalist myself 😂 so I probably would have added a few more water plants, but it’s definitely really cool!
i like it, real ocean vibes. might be cool with a crab or two. Putting blue/teal lighting or a colored backdrop might really give tropical vibe.
Love the scape, looks peaceful and like it won’t be heaps of work. Nice job
Man the new room looks FANTASTIC, so excited for the future!!
his narration type is so calming i love it
Love you videos. Your animal room is already looking good, look forward to your future plans ...
I really like the high contrast of it. I think how minimalistic it is draws your eyes more to the fish and it’s mesmerizing to watch them school
I think it is great. I like the simplicity that it brings. It also seems to be a very easy set-up to maintain. I love your work. I would like to see some more of this easy maintenance and care set-ups. Not all of us have the time for some of the heavily planted tanks.
THANK YOU FOR UPLOADING CONSITANTLY WHILE ON SUCH A BUSSY SCEDUAL!!!!
Not only do I really like this, but it actually gives me ideas: I have a lidless aquarium of similar size and fish to this one and I think I might like it as a paulidarium.
That is Absolutely Stunningly Beautiful.
I like that design very much. Well done.
I love the simplicity and the contrast with the colors, from the plants to the rocks, to the sand.
The way you achieved it is exactly what you did, you thought about it for some time and you visioned it, then you thought about it some more, and at that point you knew that you were going to be pleased with it.
Your video has now been given the 4298th Like.
Thankyou very much.
I watched your previous video where your big Paludarium Tank smashed, I really felt your pain, yet you are doing well by keeping your head up and continuing to make more beautiful Scapes such as the One you have shared in this generous video. Thankyou.
Take care Sir. 👍🙂❤️
Finished making my first terrarium ever with couple of mosses here and there and lots of tropical plants and ferns.
gotta say it is the most calming sensation to own one of these.
I love how minimal the set up is. So simple and it really pops, can’t wait to see it in a few months. Amazing, my boy!
this is actually one of my favorites out of your designs. I generally really love the super natural blackwater look and feel, which allows a peek into wilderness. this minimalist tank creates more of a secret paradise vibe, like you could picture a tiny sailboat floating along the water... regardless, all your work is outstanding, but this one made a real impression!
I think this ☝️guy is a scammer, offering gifts.
Fax I blocked him
Awesome design feels like a giant deserted island nature took over
Really love the simplicity of this one. It looks very clean.
You are like the Bob Ross of aquascaping!
love the scape and the space you work in now the new animalroom looks nice
Love the schooling fish choice.
Love this! I could watch those fish all day!
Love this!!! I think a group of small Cory cats would be so cute in this setup
Every morning I wake up and meditate, these videos always help calm me down and set the mood for my meditation. Love it!🔥
I personally think this your most striking and lovely tanks 💙💙
Less items show off more!
Wow watching those Danios school and explore their beautiful home was really inspiring!
I have to say the fish schooling throughout the tank is perfect. That is what ties it all together IMO. It is a very cool design.
It turned out amazingly well, Tanner. You have given me inspiration with those rocks connected like that. I think I'll give that a try, love the holes that the fish swim through. Take care.
To me, this is absolutely beautiful living art.
Love it! The negative space really works. Can’t wait to see more!❤️🇦🇺
Sometimes less is more! Beautiful 😍
It's amazing to see how much your style has grown watching your channel over the years. Your knowledge and skills continues to grow. So happy for you guys!
Love it! Minimalist yet calming and beautiful
I like it a lot. Maybe add a few more aqua plants. Maybe stones and shells in the sand
The way these glide around the tank is so mesmerizing, I could watch that for hours. It was beautiful when they created a linear pattern
Glad to see you back at it in my recommended
This is one of my favorite builds! So tranquil!
LOVE it! I think it's one of my favorite creations you have done so far.
I agree, it's so simple yet so pleasing.
It’s beautiful! Simple elegance, I love it.
I really enjoyed watching you build a minimalistic design. Thank you!
Hi Tanner, this set up reminds me of Krabi in Thailand.
Well done. Simple but highly effective.
Greetings from Cumbria in the U.K.
Stay safe and well.
Literally had the exact same thought, it's exactly Krabi province in Thailand.
@Tanner I would love to see another layer of movement maybe two. A bottom dweller group and some crustaceans would make this tank.
Looks great, Tanner. I might copy this scape and add some vampire shrimp in addition to the danios. The minimalist design and flat sand background would make the shrimp pop and look even larger than they actually are
Love this. Those are the perfect fish for the set up.
So simple, yet so stunning. Simply stunning!
I love this one! I saw it in the thumbnail and couldn't wait to watch.
It's gorgeous. The danios are really fun to watch. Well done👍
It’s good to see your scapes again! I missed you.
❤ I love the look of this setup and those fish are a great choice. ❤
Top 3 favorite now love the minimal beauty
I love this. I would buy this. This is perfect eye candy for a waiting room or office!
I absolutely love this build. Very tropical beach feel and the schooling fish just tie it all together. This is actually one of my favorites. Awesome job.
That. Is. Gorgeous. I’m in love.
Loved this one! The fish stand out against the black rocks and the white sand give great contrast too. Very cool!
Thank you Tanner, it’s beautiful! 🌷💚🙃
Wow this is awesome, will try this with neons and cardinals, just sand on the bottom and all the plants are on the outside, pretty cool.
I love watching your videos - honestly I don't know how you manage to maintain everything so well! I had a large tank for a single Betta some time ago and keeping it all looking clean and ensuring the fish was well looked after was so time consuming, so I really admire what you do! Amazing work 🙂
It's very attractive, I love to be able to see the fish so clearly. My favorite part was at 7:56 when some fish went around the rock and some went through and they met up on the other side acting like they hadn't seen each other for a month. 😍🧡
Love it! Very minimal. I could see this in my living room. I am thoroughly enjoying your videos.
Who could not love this??
I think it would be fun to add your "vines" for scale. Then a part of me wants to make a tiny rope bridge between the islands, but would of course also change the "story" the piece tells, which may not be what everyone wants. I do love the "untouched" feel too!
Hi Tanner. I do like the simplicity of this one. The only thing I’d add though, would be a smaller piece of lava rock that looked as though it had crumbled naturally…..you could put a couple of “broken off” segments on the substrate to finish it off. 🤔
This guy man. He's literally in the middle of moving and doing all of his regular chores/animal stuff and he STILL finds time to put out new aquascaping content. Allllmost gives me the motivation I need to do my own chores.😅😂
I think this is my favourite so far! Great work
Love the minimalist look!
The final gave me an idea. Next time you go Minimal like this, maybe have the sand or gravel in the bottom be a Zen Rock Garden with the corduroy "ripples".
Looks beautiful! Reminds me of that place in Thailand with all of those small mountain islands.
Also, I can't help but think it needs something like a hermit crab (unfortunately wrong water), but having something slowly crawling along the nice smooth sand would be very nice.
Wow gorgeous! I have a 29 gallon I'm getting ready to convert for a couple frogs. I really like the look of the square cut-out on the front as opposed to the angled cut. Very cool my man!!! Very inspiring!! 🤠
I like how visible the fish are in the finished scape. Thanks
just started this video but I gotta say I love the look of the new animal room!!
This is a fabulous build, plus it’s great to see new content from your new ‘scape’.
I love the tank just as is, the contrasts between the black rock and white sand, and the open water areas and masses of rock are phenomenal. And your video is, as always, beautifully paced-just the right amount of information and instruction.
I love this one. I almost always think you put too much into the different projects. That being said, I always like how they look, so there you go.
I love how this turned out!
