Jay & Amber, you'll love his "Crying" and "Only the Lonely (Know the Way I Feel)"!!! A one-of-a-kind voice!!
Agreed. These two songs are must listen. Crying is his best, I think.
With KD Lang!
Agree, but also In Dreams
yes Crying for sure
Running scared and it's over both classics
Elvis was in awe of Roy and respected him so much.
When Elvis was asked what it was like to have such a great voice" he replied "I don't know, you need to ask Roy Orbison that question"
He never sang one of Roy's songs.
His dream was to be able to sing like Roy.
Roy had such a tragic life in reality xx
This song was produced by Jeff Lynne of ELO in 1987 but released after Roy's untimely death. In 1987, Jeff Lynne also produced the album Cloud 9 by George Harrison. Now you know how the Traveling Wilburys came together.
His passing is still to painful 💔 😢
I remember when this song was released, and it wasn't by Roy, even though he recorded his version first. In 1989 Cyndi Lauper released her "cover" of it, Roy's version came out a few years later.
@@Pete856 Celine Dion also did a version. Of the three, though, I prefer Roy's.
Just outstanding (as is this channel). Forget Spotify, I'll just listen to this! This song showcases Roy's incredible range. There are few who could surpass him (except Freddy of course). It's my second favourite Roy Orbison song (if you exclude the Traveling Wilburys "Handle With Care") - my favourite has to be "Everything You Want (You Got It)". I didn't know Jeff Lynne produced this song but it makes perfect sense. Tom Petty, George Harrison and Roy Orbison - such outstanding talents and sorely missed. As for ELO - come on Jay and Amber - review "Hold on Tight" (czcams.com/video/UkekqVPIc2M/video.html ) please!
@@joannecunliffe8067 The ELO song I would love for them to react to is Shine A Little Love. ELO got tons of flack in this song because everybody thought they went disco which was taboo at the time with Rock fans. But it is such a great song that you cannot dismiss it.
There’s a reason even Elvis said Roy had “the most perfect voice“ and was the “greatest singer in the world”. This is one of my favorites!
Both claims objectively untrue, though
@@monkeytennis8861 But if the king of rock and roll considers you the best that's still saying something.
He was good, but Elvis was the GREATEST!
@@buckbuchanan4902 Elvis pensaba distinto. Algo sabía! 😀
Roy was in the five member band known as the Traveling Wilburys. Orbison, Harrison, Petty, Dylan and Lynn. Check out the Orbison lead vocal on the song "Not Alone" from that album. Pure vocal gold!
Love this song, especially Roy’s version. If you read about Roy, you’ll learn he faced more than his share of tragedy. And was always a true gentleman
Roy Orbison was considered to be one of the best singers who ever lived. There are so many Tunes that you need to hear. He was the master of expressing what it's like to have your heart broken. Only the Lonely, crying, it's over, Running Scared just too many to list. You can never go wrong with Roy orbison. Bruce Springsteen paid tribute to him on the first song of the Born to Run album, Thunder road, when he sang, "Roy Orbison sings for the lonely, hey that's me and I want you only." Later in his career, Bruce got to play with Roy which I can't even imagine what it was like for him. You can see it on the video of the concert film a black and white night, where so many of the great artists of the day joined him for a tribute concert.
The Black and White Night is awesome.
That Black and White concert was incredible. Must watch for all music fans.
@@bullbearjeff absolutely. Back in the day I had a VHS copy that I wore out!
By who?
This is late in his career, his voice and tonation never diminished, but you are missing his earlier work, like Crying, which set the standard. ✌️
Roy recorded this first but wasn't signed to a label at the time so it went unreleased until after his death, this song by Roy is one of the greatest songs ever
John Waite and Roy both recorded this around the same time. Neither versions were released until years later.
Jennifer Connelly. What a great actress and beautiful woman, and still looks amazing.
Love Roy Orbison!!! ❤ When there was a Tribute concert after his death, his widow requested KD Lang to sing "Crying". I would suggest you listen to this solo performance.
I would suggest that they listen to the duet by Roy and K.D. Her voice is magical.
Yes yes yes. Best 2010 Olympics
@@Pushindazees Duet is great, but she has to hold back a little at the end
This song is a just a demonstration of Roys talent...If you really want to get an idea of Roy's range and power.. check out songs like "In Dreams" or "It's Over" or "Walk On". Of course, his song, "Crying" will never let you down...
Ironically, this song was written for Roy, which he recorded the year before he died. It wasn't released until 1992, three years after the song was recorded and became a hit for Cyndi Lauper. Her version rocks too.
I like his version better and have always wondered why it was not released back in 1987.
@@user-lk5vn3hp1f He didn't have a contract and could not record anything.
@@TheJosep70 But he recorded it. They just did not release it.
@@user-lk5vn3hp1f Right, what I meant is that Steinberg and Kelly helped him record it, otherwise he wouldn't have done it either. And then he could not release it.
@@TheJosep70 So you think, they didn´t want the song released? Any idea, why?
His voice never failed him. An incredible talent. RIP Roy.
There’s nobody else quite like Roy Orbison. Such an amazing singer.💜🇨🇦
Agreed. Absolutely unique. I miss his music.
This is my favorite Roy Orbinson song and this may be my favorite music video ever, it's absolutely beautiful. Also those 2 are Jason Priestley and Jennifer Conelly, she is beautiful to this day but oh man when she was young she was a perfect 10.
Roy Orbison was such a legend. Incredible that he could belt out such beautiful notes in his older years. Great song.
'It's over' by Orbison is the song of every broken heart - a ballad, but the voice at it's best! :)
K. D. Lang and Roy duet" Crying" ! K.D. Lang Sang Crying In a Tribute to Roy Orbison. Beautiful!
Such a great voice! Saw him 50 yrs ago at a high school gymnasium with the groups WAR and THE VELVET UNDERGROUND...bizarre ,but true ...
Wow what an eclectic group ‼️
I saw Leon Russell at the Maryland State Fair about 40 years ago. Yes, bizarre is the word.
Celine Dion and Cyndi Lauper both have incredible covers to this song, but I'm so glad you listened to Roy do the original version because his Voice! :D Some other songs by him that I love are Crying, You Got It, and Blue Bayou. He had so many hits, though! Fantastic voice.
I have to say I love Celine’s version
I have to admit that I love Cyndi’s version more but all respect to Roy.
@@brr9247 Nada mejor que la versión original, la de Roy
I can't believe you didn't recognize Jason Priestly from 90210. Jennifer Connolly is also a very popular actress. She was in another video. I love this video and song.
They were too young to remember that show
Immediately felt my age. lol I'm not old! What is happening?haha
The video I remember her in is Space Age Love Song by Flock of Seagulls for the film Career Opportunities. Roller skating around a department store.
Jennifer Connelly is still great today, on "Snowpiercer". Unfortunately, the material stopped being worthy of her, IMO.
(I got so annoyed that even Sean Bean couldn't keep me watching. But so it goes.)
Brandon Walsh!!!!
You MUST watch/listen to the Cyndi Lauper version, to be honest I think it’s the best. Celine Dion covered it later as well. Roy wrote this song right before his death, and it was released posthumously around the same time the Cyndi Lauper version was, in the early 90s.
Btw, that’s actor Jason Priestley (of Beverly Hills 90210) in the video.
Roy didn't write the song. "I Drove All Night" is a song written and composed by American songwriters Billy Steinberg and Tom Kelly and originally intended for Roy Orbison. Orbison recorded the song in 1987, the year before his death, but his version was not released until 1992. John Waite recorded the song in 1987 as well but decided not to release it. His version is found on the Live and Rare Tracks Album and on CZcams.
czcams.com/video/AeYhFUKeo60/video.html John Waite version recorded around the same time as Roy's version. Also not released until much later.
@@ronsmock1879 thanks, don’t know how I got that mixed up! But I still love Cyndi’s version best. 💜
@@ashleydixon4613 Me too. Cyndi FTW
@@bonnielee78 don’t get me wrong, I love Roy, but I love Cyndi’s version better. 🤷🏻♀️
Ain't Nothing Like The Real Thing.......Roy Orbison. One of the most beautiful voices ever. Super emotionally captivating and his songs are all excellent.
Get ready for more great songs. Great reaction. Buckets of Maple Syrup love from Canada ❤️❤️ 🇨🇦 🇨🇦
Roy Orbison is the GOAT in music!!❤❤
Roy!! Classic and mr. Pretty Woman. He died while in The Traveling Wilburies! Tom and the rest loved his voice and him ❤. He’s so young here. Timeless❤
His voice will blow you away on songs like "In Dreams" "It's Over" and "Crying". And yes he was one of the Travelling Willburys 🤣
Much love from England 🏴
You really can't go wrong with Roy Orbison. Even Elvis Presley said Roy had the most perfect voice and was the greatest singer in the world.
Jay and Amber, you will love "Crying", "Only the lonely" and "Blue Bayou" There are plenty of others but those are a good place to start.
Amber, you are right in saying it was The Travelling Wilbury's.
One of the greatest love/road songs of all time! Orbison's voice is one of the best ever!
Both K. D. Lang and Cyndi Lauper have done incredible covers of this song
the Roy version is too fast. Cyndi FTW
kd lang ???
Celine Dion has too
Not kd lang, Celine Dion.
Celine Dion, not k.d. lang
At the time of his death, Roy Orbison had just started working on a new album with Rick Rubin, the producer responsible for Johnny Cash's last albums that gave us Johnny's song "The Man Comes Around" and his cover of "Hurt." Those albums sparked a resurgence of interest and appreciation for Johnny Cash in the last years of his life, and Rubin most likely would have done the same for Roy Orbison. Tragically, Roy passed away before work on the album really began, leaving us all wondering what magic Rubin might have worked for Roy at the twilight of his life.
Only The Lonely, Crying, Blue Bayou, It's Over, Leah... Do yourselves (& us!) a BIG favor and start down the Roy O rabbit hole with these! They didn't call him The Voice in his day without reason. 💙💙💙
Elvis said of him: He is the best singer of all time. Thanks for the video.
Roy Hamilton had some great songs in the early 60’s you can have her I don’t want her, cracking up over you .they called him golden voice back in the day .
Running Scared and Blue Bayou are other great songs that really show off his great voice and emotional tones in the music.
Elvis Presley called him the greatest. I believed Elvis. It's all in this song. A song that became one of Roy's last gifts to us. If I'm not mistaken the reason Roy appears ghostly & brief in this video is because he had passed away when the video was made. They just wanted to capture his presence.
(The group that backed Roy on "Pretty Woman" was The Candymen).
Great story how Roy was on tour with the Stones in New Zealand.
They were all around the pool sunbathing and Keith Richards said to Roy... 'Hey Roy, aren't you due on stage in 10 minutes?' Roy replied, 'I think you are right. He slowly got up and sauntered away. 10 minutes later he was suited and booted and on stage.
In Richards Autobiography he said that Roy did that a lot and Keith couldn't figure out how.
My favourite Orbison songs are "Only The Lonely", "Blue Angel", and "In Dreams". Other great ones: "Crying", "It's Over", "Dream Baby".
Wow, what depth. I love this, didn’t know Roy rocked this way. I’m so surprised 💙👍
Roy had the voice of an opera singer and he chose to sing rock and roll. You guys gotta listen to Crying.
You're only skimming the surface! Get his greatest hits box set, and prepare to be blown away. He had about a dozen top 10 hits in the late 50s and early 60s. Came up at Sun records with Elvis, Johnny Cash and Jerry Lee Lewis.
He was openly Elvis' favorite vocalist!
It is Travelling Wilburys!
Cyndi Lauper and K.D. Lang made this song popular with their covers, which are also very good. Please please check out more of Roy's songs: "Crying", "Only the Lonely", "Blue Bayou" (which Linda Ronstadt did an amazing cover of both in English and Spanish [Lago Azul], you should listen to that too), "Running Scared", "In Dreams", "You Got It"....
That's Jason Priestley in the music video.
FYI: Billy Steinberg and Tom Kelly wrote and composed the song intended for Roy Orbison. While Roy Orbison was the first to record it in 1987 it wasn’t released until 1992 so Cyndi Lauper’s version was actually the first to be released in 1989.
Ther is an extended re-mix of this song which takes it to another level..just wonderful.
Roy Orbison born 1936 wink Texas and died 1988 age of 52, normal person voice is at octave 1 Roy's at 3 like a opera singer and he wrote over 500 songs, he is in the Singer and songwriter Hall of Fame Rock and roll and country too!!
Crying and/or It's Over - You will love him even more!
Roy was nearsighted, and used to just wear regular horn rim glasses like Buddy Holly, but as he was heading to a concert somewhere, and he was about to go on stage he realized he left his actual glasses on the bus, all he had was a pair of prescription sunglasses. He put those on, and it just so happened a newspaper photographer was there and took a couple of pictures, and when they appeared in the paper Roy's signature look was established!!
He recorded this first but Cyndi Laupers version was released first; her version is my favorite but I still like this Roy Orbison always has that great rock vibe. His version of 'Crying" with kd lang is FIRE!!!
La versión de Cindy está basada en la de Roy
Did you know that Roy Orbison tried out an acting career in the late 60's? Worth a look, and a listen too. The name of the movie is "Fastest Guitar Alive" from 1967... Lots of songs in it. If nothing else, you get the opportunity to check out that "Custom" guitar of his... I had not seen it in years until I noticed recently it was on CZcams.
He has the most amazing voice! Like sweet butter.
Roy is one of my favorite voices! ❤❤
Roy wore glasses but when he went on tour to the U.K. In the early 1960’s he accidentally left them on the plane. He still had his prescription sunglasses with him so he was forced to wear them to his concert and they were a big hit so he wore them ever since. Also a big headliner like Roy would usually have an opening band. Which band do you suppose was lucky enough to open for him? The Beatles!
The actress in the video is a young Jennifer Connelly who costars with Tom Cruise in Top Gun Maverick! One you need to watch with us soon please!
You’ve heard the story about Roy’s glasses, haven’t you? He used to wear regular prescription glasses, but one time, he either couldn’t find them or they broke (I don’t recall which), and the only pair of glasses he had on him were his prescription sunglasses, and he had to go on stage, so he wore them, and a legend of him and his glasses were born!
His classics from the 50's and 60's are the best. "Crying", "Running Scared", "In Dreams", "It's Over", "Blue Bayou", "Only The Lonely", ... This stuff is gold! You'll love all of these songs! Not Knocking his 80's comeback. It was great that he went out so strong. Gotta love The Traveling Wilbur'ys too!
Roy was my radio preteen love...long long ago...then many years later I learned of his tragic life...but he continued to sing of love and longing through his whole life...
So...
How about a little Motown...the Temptations...
💥...I can't get next to you...
Yep !...👍😉...🌿🌿🌿
Roy had a wonderful voice. My favourite song of his is Mystery Girl - written by U2, I believe.
Love that one!
Although Roy recorded his version first, Cyndi Lauper's recording was released first, in 1989. Orbison's was posthumously released in 1992. Jason Priestley and Jennifer Connelly are featured in the video.
In my humble opinion Roy O. had one of the most powerful voices back in the day, matter of all my friends were crazy for Elvis. I was a fan also. When I heard my first song by him on the radio I was blown away. From that day on I preferred listening more to Roy Orbison and another powerful vocalist by the name of Gene Pitney. Still liked Elvis though. 😁
I love Cyndi Lauper's version of this. Her voice is beautiful in this song.
The young man in the MV was played by Jason Priestly, of 90210 fame. The young lady was played by Jennifer Connelly.
What i loved about this track was that an artist my grandfather loved could reach put to a modern time with a killer track ❤
A definite must is Roy & KD Lang "Crying". You will be blown away. ✌️
Funny. There is an artist from Finland called Stig and he has made a Finnish song called Roy Orbison. And the lyrics go something like "And I'm driving all the night... just like Roy Orbison and my heart is pumping wild... " :)
Amber, good catch on the soaring voice over the driving beat. When he had his incredible run of early 60s hits, you will notice that his voice soars over a backbeat. It’s his sound.
Roy Orbison the only American artist to survive the British invasion in England, he carried on until he died
I MISS Roy SO MUCH, NO ONE had a VOICE like his. You need to watch his "BLACK AND WHITE NIGHT" concert that has other big stars singing back up and in his band. It's EXCELLENT!!
The greatest voice ever! Simple as that!
A fantastic Roy Orbison song that seems to go under the radar somehow is "She's a mystery to me" written by no other than U2's frontman Bono. You should definitely react to that
He's like an opera singer.
What a great description !! NO ONE COULD TOUCH ROY'S VOICE !!
My personal favourite of Roy's (and the Traveling Wilburys) was "Not Alone Anymore" which IMO never got the recognition it deserved. David Lynch made great use of Roy's "In Dreams" in "Blue Velvet" and Roy's "Black and White Night" film of a concert with a stellar group of performers not long before his untimely death is always a great watch.
As the daughter of a mother who's a fan of Roy Orbison (I was a bit indoctrinated, lol) I was very happy to see popular actors of that moment, Jason Priestly (teenage soap Beverly Hills 90210) and Jennifer Connelly (film Labyrinth) in this music video. Now you did this song maybe you can also react to the version of Cyndi Lauper. And as well the original song ”Blue Bayou” by Roy Orbison of which you reacted to the cover version by Linda Ronstadt.
You should watch "Roy Orbison & Friends 1988 A Black and White Night."
Its a concert given by Roy and lots of really well known musicians, including Elvis Costello and Bruce Springsteen.
He had the best ever backing singers in Bonnie Raitt, KD Lang and Jennifer Warnes.
The group Roy was in was "The Travelling Wilburys."
My favorite Roy Orbison song. I love the video (made after Orbison's death). OK, truthfully, I love Jennifer Connelly in the video.
Don't recall hearing this one... radio stations played his Top Hits mostly. But You Guys can Never Lose by playing Roy Orbison's selections! OK- You Guys know I'm kidding, since Everyone knows You Guys have NEVER Lost........ except maybe the one about a Lobster of Some Species... :) Great Reactions Today Guys. Take Care!
This demonstrates why I Elvis said Roy Orbison was the only artist that ever made him look over his shoulder.
Roy Orbison transcends any generation. BTW, please review the Cyndi Lauper video of this song. What an amazing voice!
Love this song! Roy recorded this in 1987, the year before his death, but it wasn’t released until 1992. Cyndi Lauper had a big hit with it in 1989.
Cyndi's version is one of my all time fave songs. I hope they react to her music video as it is fire.
Just adding another vote for checking out Cyndi's version, she takes great pains to emulate his style in tribute, she uses her full range on this one.
Cyndi's version is fire!!🔥
Roy's version is the best imo. Love Cyndi by the way.
@@wantutosigh1117 Simplemente es la original
Jay and Amber I've said this before but Roy always made other artists stand in awe of him ..... Elvis called him " The voice " and the story goes that Roy was the only person that Elvis was intimated by vocally .... everyone said that Elvis didn't mind singing with others but not Roy lol
I loooooove Roy! One of the greatest voices in Rock history
I love the reactions you guys do to Roy Orbison's music. In my opinion he was and still is the best singer n pop/rock history. Please do a reaction to Crying, the duet version with Roy and K D Lang. It is one of the most beautiful songs you will ever hear. Both of their voices are incredible in this song and it is like his voice got even better with age. Thank you so much. I love your channel.
Great song great singer royorbison was one of the very best
Just 35 more great must-listens to go before you have the full Roy Orbison effect. :)
Speaking of driving all night. Bruce Springsteen gave the speech for Roy's induction into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame. Here is an excerpt from right at the beginning. "In 1970, I rode for fifteen hours in the back of a U-haul truck to open for Roy Orbison at the Nashville Music Fair."
He had this to say at the end of the speech, regarding his going into the studio to record Born to Run. " I wanted to make a record with words like Bob Dylan, that sounded like Phil Spector’s productions, but most of all I wanted to sing like Roy Orbison. Now, everybody knows that nobody sings like Roy Orbison.”
Here is an excerpt from his speech: I wanted to make a record with words like Bob Dylan, that sounded like Phil Spector’s productions, but most of all I wanted to sing like Roy Orbison. Now, everybody knows that nobody sings like Roy Orbison.”
Here is a portion of that speech in video form: czcams.com/video/4KndFDvmAMA/video.html
'In Dreams' is one of his other greats! Although a certain scene in a David Lynch movie creeps into my mind once in a while!
I wish that I can hit the like button on this more than once. As other people have stated, Roy recorded this first, but didn't immediately release it. Cyndi Lauper did a cover of it which he released and it was phenomenal. I remember when I first heard her version of it thinking that this sounded like something. I absolutely give her version my highest recommendation. She goes a different direction with it, and her vocals are kind of smokyy and ethereal. But she also hits those soaring notes that Roy did. You won't be disappointed.
Many of his songs drew from personal experiences and tragedies (of which he endured many), such as in dreams, blue bayou and claudette
Elvis famously said that Roy Orbison was the most beautiful voice he ever heard. But much less known, Roys next door neighbor as a teenager made the same statement. His neighbor and child hood playmate was Johnny Cash. Let that sink in.
Celine Dion does a great cover of this too. I love anything by Roy Orbison. Thank you!
Roy wore fairly thick prescription glasses...left them or broke them before a show and had to wear his prescription shades. Decided he liked them because of the look...wore them from then on to perform.
An interesting note, The Beatles were the opening act for Roy Orbison’s UK tour in 1963.
Greatest singer the world has ever witnessed followed by many greats and other legends around his era but Roy was just magical. RIP Roy
Cindy Lauper does an amazing rendition of this song. Roy's the GOAT!!!
I still can't believe that he was only 52 when he died and was having a huge resurgence in popularity.
As soon as I heard the drums I knew it was Jeff Lynne. That *specific* thundering drum sound is a Lynne trademark and can be heard on "Twilight" by ELO, "Into the Great Wide Open" by Tom Petty and the Heartbreakers, and "Free as a Bird" by the Beatles, and you can hear a similar sound on George Harrison's "Got My Mind Set On You".
Traveling Wilburys is correct. Roy Orbison was a rock and roll balladeer, that's the only way I can describe him. His music rocks but his voice soars!
One of the most beautiful songs.
Pretty Woman, Only the Lonely, Crying, In Dreams, It's Over. His voice!
Great song and there is something special about these older songs which that were about love and told a story.❤👍
You should listen to Celine sing this song!!! (My favorite version) Also check out Roy sing Only the Lonely!!!
