Platform as a seat is a good move!

John Sloan wrote in his old book “Bowhunting Whitetail Deer” (in protest to climbing stands that forced the hunter to face the tree), “I’m not hunting trees.” So despite the obvious benefit of a saddle to the mobile hunter, it’s hard to argue that a tree obscuring a stand hunter’s field of view as well as the fact we don’t have eyes in our back doesn’t result in fewer deer observed and fewer shot opportunities, especially when hunting more open areas and/or when leaves are wet.

Great little video. I’d highly recommend editing the title to include the word rifle. I have searched in the past for exactly this type of info and yours had never popped up. Just found it randomly now. Thank you. I rifle hunt from a saddle in Australia. 👌

Rifle Hunting out of a saddle is even BETTER than bow hunting in my opinion. I actually hunt out of a saddle in regular hang ons and climbers too.

I will agree, I’ve only rifle hunted out of mine and I love it. It does take some getting used to but after the 3rd or 4th time it’s like clockwork.

I find it more difficult to shoot my rifle out of my saddle than my bow. I have had to shoot two deer leaning off the tree and resting off my tetther. It sucked. Talk about timing the drift.

Do you carry the rifle up on your climb or hoist it up once you get set up

@@abintner23 practice and you can lay it on the side. I use a suppressor and a can cover that sticks out so it’s more forgiving.
