    Really enjoying this series so far! I was planning to use quartersawn mahogany for something similar (Jerry Garcia wolf template built like a thinline tele and using an old tele neck) and I’m guessing I’ll run into all those same problems with tearout, so I’m feeling much better prepared after watching this. Love all your vintage shop tools!

      Thanks Eric, if you do struggle with tear out I've always found that mahogany type woods plane across the grain really well.

    Sapele is such a beautiful wood. That guitar is gonna be awesome. Can’t wait to see the finished product.

    Thanks for this. I’ve just ordered some plans for a slim line to build my first guitar.

    Oh no! I busted two cheap pickguard screws in a body recently, fortunately yours was in the waste part. You’re inspiring me to finally go ahead with my dream tele- walnut with cream binding 😁

      I always put a bit of wax on small screws at assembly time, usually does the trick. Walnut tele sounds great, so happy that the videos inspire others to build :)

      @@Adventuresfromtheshedofdreams Indeed with the waxing the screws, especially on tuner screws. I've had to dig a few of those out in my day until I started waxing the threads.

    3:30 Me. Every time. Then regret my laziness. Routers can be the great heart-breaker of guitar making like that.

    Looking good so far, nice that you've kept it going after the GGBO was done. I'd probably have tried a small hole saw bit to get that screw out.

    What kind of router bit did you use for the cavities? Lovely work, enjoy your videos very much. Mark

    Good tool is a screw extractor, like a plug maker.. or can make one yourself using steel tubing and a file..

    Double sided tape won’t break off. Or masking tape and super glue! Looks like it’s going to be a nice guitar.

    Could you have used a (dowel) plug cutter to cut down around the broken screw, to get at it?

    • @Adventuresfromtheshedofdreams
      @Adventuresfromtheshedofdreams  Před 3 lety

      Yes, it would have been much easier and somewhere I have a set of them, I'd love to know where that somewhere is :)

    I just discovered your channel and have watched all your thinline videos with fascination and admiration. Thank you for sharing them. Can you answer a question that stands out for me? You have extensively routed your thinline body and I would like to know if the cavities you opened are similar or even the same as the cavities on the Fender Thinline guitars? From the surface the Fender guitars seem to be less routed.
    Thanks again for your expertise.

      Hi Alan, thanks for watching and I'm really happy that you have enjoyed the build. I built the routing template a few years ago so I can't remember exactly which year of thinline it is based on and there were difference between the years but it's very close to how Fender did (some of) them.

    Hi how thick is the Sapele body (without the top)? Thanks

    • @Adventuresfromtheshedofdreams
      @Adventuresfromtheshedofdreams  Před rokem +1

      The body is 1.5 inch thick and the top is 0.25 inch thick. Love the name by the way, are you still with Polymer records??

      @@Adventuresfromtheshedofdreams thanks planed my sapele body down to 38mm over the weekend (wasn't fun with a number 5 hand plane) but its done now. Thanks for confirming the thickness. And yes, let me know if you want a record deal...
