    - So let's begin: The performance of your chainsaw must be maintained, and user safety must be ensured, by ordering the proper chain. Here are some advice from experts to assist you in selecting the right chainsaw chain:
The first step in ordering a chainsaw chain is to identify the brand and model of your existing chainsaw. Chainsaw chains exist in a variety of sizes and combinations to fit certain models; they are not universal. Usually, the owner's manual or the chainsaw's body will have this information.
How to Calculate Chain Pitch and Gauge: The chain pitch and gauge parameters must be accurate. The gauge is the thickness of the drive links, while the pitch is the separation between the drive links (the protruding pieces that fit into the groove of the bar). Typically, you can discover this information on the old chain itself or in the owner's manual.
Select the Chain Length: Drive links are the standard unit of measurement for chainsaw chains, which come in a variety of lengths. Count the drive links on your current chain to get the proper length, or check the owner's handbook for the suggested length.
Think about the Chain Type: There are different chainsaw chain kinds, such as full chisel, semi-chisel, and low-profile. Depending on what you need to cut, you can choose. Semi-chisel chains are more robust and adaptable for a variety of cutting applications, whereas full chisel chains offer the fastest cutting performance but require more maintenance.
Analyse the Drive Link Count to Make Sure the New Chain Has the Same Drive Links as the Old Chain. For compatibility and appropriate fit, this is crucial.
Verify Chain Compatibility: Make sure the chain you're getting is compatible with the model of your particular chainsaw. If you're unsure, get advice from a nearby dealer, the manufacturer directly, or the company's website.
Check for Safety Features: Some chains contain enhanced safety features, such as anti-kickback components, which can lower the chance of kickback events. Beginner chainsaw users should pay special attention to these aspects.
Select the Correct File Size: You must use the correct file size while sharpening your chainsaw chain in order to maintain it properly. For information on the appropriate file size for your chain, consult the owner's manual or product literature.
Take Chain Brand into Account: It's always a good idea to stay with established chainsaw chain brands that are renowned for quality and endurance. These chains might cost a little more, but they are frequently worthwhile.
Seek Professional guidance: Don't be afraid to ask a local chainsaw store or a qualified chainsaw mechanic for guidance if you have any questions about ordering a chainsaw chain or are having problems locating the proper one. They may offer professional advice and assist you in making the best chain choice possible.
Keep in mind that for safety and best results, a chainsaw chain that is properly installed and maintained is essential. When you order the appropriate chain for your chainsaw, you can fulfill your cutting chores quickly and with little risk.

Hi Craig, Thanks for the video!. You might want to mention that 3/8" chain comes in regular for larger saws and low profile for smaller saws.

Usually the dl number on guide bar is correct, but sometimes not always. Depends on geometry of drive sprocket & chain tension arrangement. Safest way is count dl of used chain.

There is one other item that needs to be addressed. If one is putting a different bar on a machine for example, and changing the brand or bar length, what of the sproket?

I cheated. I read that the bar and chain on my Poulan Pro PR5020 20" chainsaw were trash before buying it, and had also read that Oregon makes high quality products, so I called Oregon with Pre-Sale questions. I wanted to be sure to have a Full Chisel *Safety* chain (from research), but was having trouble deciphering the information online. I spoke with a Pro who had been with Oregon for years and Echo for years before that. He wanted to know the Pitch, Gauge and Links to be sure, so I told him. We had a wonderful discussion as he relayed his years of experience and I asked questions to which he gladly gave wise, fully educated answers. He told me that Oregon makes OEM-branded products for many chainsaw manufacturers, but I knew this bar and chain were made by Poulan; a sub-brand of Husqvarna. I haven't used the chainsaw much yet and used it with the stock bar and chain, but I know I have a high quality bar and chain when I decide to take the originals off. If they ever need to be replaced, I'll buy the same again.
Your videos are always so informative. Thanks, Mr. Craig. Maybe make another one about the differences between cutting tips/chisels? And another about the importance of a Safety chain for non-Professionals?

Hi there! It's always nice to hear from you and thank you for sharing your experience, and it's great to hear that you found valuable assistance from Oregon when choosing a bar and chain for your Poulan Pro PR5020 chainsaw. It's essential to get the right components for your chainsaw to ensure optimal performance and safety.
I'm glad to know that you've been enjoying the videos. Your suggestion for a video about the differences between cutting tips/chisels and the importance of safety chains for non-professionals is an excellent idea. Understanding these aspects can be immensely helpful for all users, whether they're seasoned professionals or just starting out with a chainsaw.
Your thoughtful feedback is much appreciated, and I'm here to provide accurate and helpful information whenever you need it. Happy and safe chainsawing!
      Thanks again
