Rooney was an absolute gem one of the best all round players. He scored a club record of 253 goals a tally that no doubt would've been far higher had he been more selfish but that wasn't Rooney. He was always a team player often playing out of position to accommodate others. His winning mentality, work rate, desire, will to win, selflessness etc he was incredible. One of our greatest ever players. One of a kind totally fearless

My favourite Manchester United player of all time and my favourite player ever to play the game. His anger fueled him to reach levels that most players can dream of. At one point he was better than Ronaldo but we all know what happened post 2006 World Cup but Rooney was scoring goals and making assists when he was needed. That volley against Newcastle, the overhead kick in the Manchester Derby and his half way goal against West Ham isn't by accident. Yes his last 3 years at Manchester United was extremely painful due to him declining before turning 30 but he still pops up with goals and him becoming our all time top scorer is a testament of how great Wayne Rooney was at Manchester United. We'll never see a player like Wayne Rooney ever again.
My fave 3 are Ronaldo R9, Henry and Rooney.
IMO R9 is the most amazing talent I've seen, Henry was my old prem favourite and then Rooney appeared.

Excellent video and tribute. That's what I loved about Rooney. I know I speak for many united fans who grew up in the peak Rooney era when I say that he is what we refer to when we say the United "identity." He fought every game to the death. He could never walk on the pitch when we are 1-0 down. He literally led from the front and others followed suit. He is my choice for best United player ever.

People throw around the word "legend" very casually these days, but words like those should be reserved for special talents like Rooney. Cannot understate how much United have missed a Rooney like figure in that dressing room for so many seasons now
I remember that bicycle kick he had against City. I was laying on my couch watching the game, and when he scored I remember jumping up like a wild man excited like a kid! Such great moments from one of the best to play the game. Glad he was a huge part of Manchester United. I hope he finds a spot and does well as a manager.
Rooney is still such an underatted player, he very rarely gets mentioned for what he achieved for club and country.

He was the reason I started following manutd as a kid. First saw him in the 3-2 AC Milan UCL game where Kaka destroyed us. Already knew about Kaka but Rooney was a first for me. I immediately loved his energy. He developed into one of the most complete footballers, able to play so well in different positions. That versatility, for me, is what made him so invaluable to the team

Without a doubt Rooney was an absolute force to be reckoned with. Phenomenal player at his peak...there are not many English players of his calibre in modern day football. I just wish he had taken care of his body and carried on for another 3/4 years.

Well done Sam! Never seen a better analysis of a great and complicated character Wayne Rooney. As fans we were able to see past his flaws and appreciate his Talent. I just wish we give the same energy to Mason Greenwood. Because that boy is a gem of a player. It's easy to be hypocritical but you never write-off any human being for one mistake especially if he/she hasn't killed anyone.

Back when players were men and let their anger show often risking a card granted but now they just play like crap then go onto the internet to have a cry instead.
Any decent sport psychologist couid have helped Rooney to perform at his best without all the negative effects of his anger. Football is still so backwards in terms of mental coaching.
