      Just like a Tesla. But no surprise as Tesla and MB have partnered with each other for more than a decade now. Anyone who has familiarity with both already know about the shared switch gear, battery and motor tech, UI, display, BMS, software, etc, but as the years have gone by, Tesla and MB have done an excellent job with differentiating their vehicles to emulate what they wish the driver and passengers to experience. That said, I own one Tesla and two MB electrics, and I appreciate both manufacturers design, engineering, and style. I’ve been keeping a close eye on MB’s EQ series and been patiently waiting for the Germans to catch up in their own way, and I’m liking what I’m seeing for the most part. As I’m in North America, I’m still waiting for MB to make the official announcement for NACS support.. without which, I will continue to wait before buying a MB, as utilizing Tesla’s Supercharging network has easily spoiled me, and now I have decided going forward, any new EV purchase must have NACS compatibility. Again, I’m in NA, so this does not apply to those of you in other parts of the world. The EQA in all its variants appear to be well thought out. Just need mbusa to show availability with NACS.. then I will visit my nearest MB dealer. Till then, I’m loving that Supercharger life on the road and don’t want to charge with anything else.

      That is great to know. Thanks. My Kia is pretty good but I still spend time doing the mental calculations with percentage of battery left at the actual average m/kwh I am doing at the time. It can be quite inaccurate if you have been doing lots of urban driving and then go on a long A road/motorway journey.

    Hey Nick, thank you for your excellent videos. I recently got an 2021 CLA 250e plug-in hybrid as a company car, your videos have been very helpful to get to know my car but there is couple of things i've been wondering about;
    1. If i switch to "Electric" drive mode, it sometimes shows "D Auto" in the gear select option in dashboard and sometimes not, it seems to do that at random, any reason for it?
    2. If i keep my drive mode in "Common" and don't input any destination in navigation, the car always drains my battery first and then switches to petrol engine. Even if i'm driving fast on a motorway, it still decides to use the electric motor rather than petrol, it then drains my battery rapidly because of the high speed. Is there anyway i can modify that behaviour when it switches between electric and petrol engines? I usually just have to switch to "Battery Level" (BL) on motorway so it doesn't use battery for it and i can save it for later down the road like when driving in town

    • @npoleary
      @npoleary  Před rokem +1

      Ah awesome Esa, thank you! Glad you enjoy them!
      1. I wonder if it’s something to do with “Electric in the city” or something. There’s sometimes an option in the EQ menu for that.
      2. Ah that’s how plug-in hybrids work 🤓 they’re designed to try and use Electric wherever they can. The engine is only used for short bursts or the battery is not charged or if you change the mode.
      Battery Level will try and keep the battery level where it is and utilise the engine instead.

    • @johanssonchristian
      @johanssonchristian Před rokem +2

      D Auto is the smart level of recuperation.
      You have the choice of different recuperation levels when you go fully Electric.
      D is the middle strength, D+ is more like sailing without recuperation and D- is stronger recuperation closer to one-pedal-drive where the car brakes when you let off the accelerator. You can change recuperation mode by using the shift paddles behind the steering wheel. To activate D Auto you just hold left or right for a second or two, so that’s probably what happened for you. 😊👍

Why not drive the at the max 70mph in the cold and show us after an hour (tough circumstance) realistically how far you get. Maybe you could do a standardized comparison drive? I have the EQA 250 AMG variant & I will be keeping it a very long time but not for the reasons you might think !!.. It is lovely to drive ! Very easy in fact & it obviously has all the tech with the MBUX but a few things have really disappointed me about the car & Mercedes themselves !! In cold weather the range drops like a brick to the bottom of a lake & the heater is no way as good as a petrol or diesel variant. Before this I had the GLC 250D Sport & I wish now that I had kept it ! Also Mercedes now have put the starting price of my car up by over £9000 on my model & when I last checked that was not for a plus version. I thought electric cars were supposed to be getting cheaper for people !! Sadly it seems not the case! I will be getting a second car at some stage BUT it will not be a fully electric ! & with the price of charging riding up with petrol & diesel why would anyone by an electric car at this present moment in time ? It's a no brainer !!

      It is nice to drive, but it is dynamically compromised. It doesn't drive as well as the regular GLA, it's not as nimble feeling and when you're in the back seat, because the battery is in the floor, occupants' knees get pushed too high and their legs lack thigh support. @SuperEgleh Před 7 měsíci

      the eqa has a heat pump, but it does not take heat from the ambient air like on a house, it takes heat from the battery cooling circuit, from the air that goes out from the cabin, from the motors, the inverter and the charger. so it is quite efficient down to around 0 degrees, then it starts using the ptc to heat the cabin and the battery, and the consumption rise quickly. especially those that only do short trips will see a very high consumption, as the battery has to be reheated every trip.

    I have had the 250+ for 8 months and am very disappointed with the stated mileage available against the actual mileage it achieves. When driven frugally with heating barely on, no air con, I can drive 5 miles and easily 15 miles disappear off the range. I am charging more often than I should and when I do go for a rare full charge, most range displayed I’ve had was 301 miles. Today charged to 90% and 237 miles showing available.

    • @npoleary
      @npoleary  Před 5 měsíci

      The range indicator is just an estimate based on the previous journeys. So in that example that you gave there with “losing” 15 miles, the journey before that must have been at higher speeds or less traffic or warmer temperatures.
      The same can happen the opposite way, 1 week drive in loads of traffic with stop / starts and barely above 30 mph. Then the very next day drive away from congested areas and you’ll notice that you’re travelling 1/2/3/4 miles and more but the range is just staying the same.
      The range indicator is very good on EV’s but it will fluctuate based on how much power you’ve used.

      All manufacturers provide real world range called WLTP. These are captured in ideal conditions so it depends on the temp, the journey you’re doing, the spec you’ve got, how you drive and all of course the speed and A/C etc.
      Drive at 60mph on a flat surface and you can achieve that 🤓
      Have a look at this website which shows you the varying range depending on where you drive: ev-database.org/uk/car/1985/Mercedes-Benz-EQA-250plus
      Hope that helps!

    What does it cost to charge this EQA from empty to full. I wonder would £50 do it, I still would prefer a Diesel one, I can claim back the V.A.T so it's cheap enough, I have add blue in my one so all that's coming out of the exhaust is vapor totally harmless to our planet.......

      Depends on how much you pay for electricity…🤓
      If you pay £0.33p per kWh (average in the UK at the time of writing this), it’ll be approx £23 to charge fully.
      No different to fuel stations, price varies massively, depends how much electricity costs at the plug. Motorway service stations will cost more just like fuel does.

    I would say this car a big disappointment for me
    1. Charging is a nightmare. Every single charger I tried on shopping malls or charging stations I always got a communication error. You know why? Mercedes does not allow you to charge your car if you dont lock your car. If it is winter and you have a family inside, you cant lock the car because alarm starts
    2. Send to Mercedes feature. Another failure. If you select a point from google maps you can transfer to your car. But your car brings you to totally different place
    3. Car Play Screen size. Even you thought you have a LARGE screen, only 45% of it you can use for Apple Car Play, because Mercedes paints rest of 55% of area to BLACK, you cant use....
    4. defogger.. This is the BIGGEST disappointment for me. If there is a rain outside and quite cold weather, your windows will be steamy. Even you use your defogger button at MAX level in your car, at least 25% of front windows will never be clear.
    5. Brakes.. This can not be a common error but I have a feeling that this car has huge braking problem, if you press the brake pedal gently and the increase the pressure, suddenly you feel a gap on the pedal and you can easily hit something/someone because of this gap/delay
    Basically a big disappointment from Mercedes for me

      Hey Erdem,
      I can try and help out!
      1) You can charge when it’s unlocked, if that’s not working, defo contact Mercedes. (Unless of course this varies elsewhere in the world by it certainly will charge when unlocked in the UK).
      2) Google Maps has had an issue with this for a while, I think it’s an incompatibility issue. Apple Maps has not had an issue with me when I’ve done it.
      3) I wish it was full screen too but sadly MBUX NTG 6 is available in two screen sizes. When designing and coding I’m led to believe that you can only choose one (to maintain compatibility) for everything as Apple CarPlay cannot scale up.
      4) Just make sure A/C is on, you can use this with warm and cold which will remove moisture from the air.
      5) Most EV’s have a fade in from brake recuperation and the actual brakes which can feel weird at first but it’s just something that each driver has to try when using an EV.
      Brake recuperation is usually only active above 13 mph though.
      Hope that helps! 🤓

    I wouldn't buy an EV that can only do 60 mph on a motorway because it might use more electric power. They are a waste of time.

    • @npoleary
      @npoleary  Před 8 měsíci

      Well you don’t have to travel at 60mph they can go a lot faster. But it’s the same as petrol or diesel 🤓 if you travel at 60mph then you’ll use less fuel, same for an electric car, you’ll use less electricity.
      All types of car will be around for long while for people to choose and they all have their pros and cons, just depends what works for you 🤓
