Itâs so sweet how excited she was at the end of the video. So genuine.
I made me smile and I gave it a like :)
Very traditional Sunday Dinner was roast meat with vegetables, followed by rice pudding. While the dinner was cooking, mum cleaned the house from top to bottom and dad was in the garden, tending the home grown vegetables. After dinner (now called lunch) we sat in front of the fire and snoozed. It was our only relaxation in a very busy working week.
So true - very nostalgic đŹđ§â€ïž
Ah yes better times: life expectancy of only 60-70, only 5-10% higher education participation, smallpox not yet eradicated; all washed down with a delicious lungful of asbestos. I can taste those days in every mouthful of rice pudding đ
â@@methanedirigible I guess you sit alone at parties. đ
@@Stormyweld05 I have no choice but to sit alone! My mid-20th century family died of preventable illnesses.
While dinner (now called Just Eat) was cooking, mum was dying of childbirth and dad was chain-smoking whilst painting with lead-based emulsion. After dinner (now called McDonaldâs) we sat by the fire and breathed in the smoke and soot that would finish off my polio-afflicted younger brother. It was our only relaxation in a back-breaking week at the workhouse.
â@@Stormyweld05I think someone (methanedirigible) has inhaled too much methane. Such a bad attitude. đź
This is how my mum used to make it 50 odd years ago, very simple but the taste is something else. after the war people didn't have all the fancy ingredients but they still made tasty deserts
Thanks, Mary
Iâve watched this video so many times, just for the nostalgia and warmth feelings I get from it! (As I miss and love the UK) đ„°đ„°
I'm from the US and thank God we have youtube to be able to see these great chefs.
Watching Mary Berry makes me miss my grandma đ„
. . . . My grandma and my mum - đđ
OMG same

The thing I love about Mary is she does simple stuff too cook no fuss or frills & I knows she can cook anything love her eyes twinkle when she makes lovely food / desert to eat she still has her passion to cook dunno why people eat junk food or eat out make food your self tastes better and saves u more money
Wow that's awesome Wendy Jones.
You are superb!
me too. This recipe is so much easier than others - I saw one where you melt some butter then add the sugar, add the rice and stir it until the rice starts to swell and get sticky etc etc. FFS, just shove everything in a baking dish. Mary Berry is the queen.
WHOLESOME
Mary berry , you are the merriest of berries, keep on cooking, I love your cooking
I love the way she teases us when she takes that first mouthful, I absolutely love rice pudding, Mary Berry certainly knows how to cook!
I was thrilled to find this beautiful rice pud baked in the oven - just the way my mum made it with the skin - soo delish!!
My mother made it in the oven and she used to replace some of the milk with evaporated milk, amazingly creamy
Oh my gosh I have not had rice pudding in years I absolutely love having it especially when my mum used to cook it and the thought of me not having it and how much I love it it has actually given me the shivers and put tears in my eyes I love it that much
Amazing when it came out of the oven and she almost read your mind word perfect
I've made many recipes for rice pudding over the years. This may be an old one but it's new to me. I can't wait to try it!
I just love Mary!
What a lovable character. Reminds me of our english grand mother before she left us :') absolutely adorable
I feel so at home watching you cook rice pudding. Warm memories.
This is my mother's recipe!! I thought it was lost forever!!! THANK YOU
Thank you Mary Berry for a jolly good rice pudding recipe!! Such a delight!
This is so wholesome
So simple thank you, never showed this style growing up
I have never seen rice pudding made in this way. I must give this a try. So easy.
My mum always made it this way, but she used carnation milk.... and I do the same, it really is to die for.
@@annenorth8553 my mom too, but I think this one will taste better, yummy lets try it!!!!!
The best way
Mary's method is a traditional way to make rice pudding and, speaking from experience, it works an absolute dream. I am making it this evening as a treat for my other half!
I just love her, and rice pudding
Itâs scrumptious!
Ahhh .. I just love how enthusiastic she is, especially with a simple, homey dessert that a lot of people look down on, but that's okay .. it just leaves more for us that like it! hee hee
This looks delicious and the jam really sends it over the top! So yummy !
She makes it with soo much love
Thanks Mary now I be making my own rice pudding love it
Got to love Mary Berry.
my Nan and my mom always made it this way and so do I! Always a big hit
Nobody cares what you do Tracy
That looks so easy. Definitely gonna try this.
I like to make my rice pudding with Carnation milk instead of regular milk. Much more tasty. That's how my mum used to make it way back.
raymond lang my mum did the same. I just canât enjoy regular milk rice pudding as much
you got that right man!
@@nahpoli What an ignorant filthy mouth you have.
Moms are the best. Thanks for tip.
Mine too....with nutmeg on top for that yummy skin! đ
Ahh, sheâs great, I love her.
Wow
I never had rice pudding like that.
It looks good.
Grandma mary is wonderful
Memories indeed ?! đ„°đ
At my school, our class has a joke going around about Mary Berry where one of my classmates idol is Mary Berry. Our teacher is even in on it, she printed out a picture of Mary Berry and put it on the star of our Christmas tree and put; âMary Berry put ____ into the cake. (flour/flower) in our Christmas test.đ
In Brazil, we do differently. It looks very good.
nice recipe
My daddy made this for us growing up, I regret not watching how he made it. Now after following this video I'll be making it, the great this about being myself I can eat the skin without my sister's n brother arguing who got the most. Bringing a year to my eyes missing my dad.
Similar memory with my dad, keep the memories alive đđ»
A beautiful rice pudding from a lovely lady. Thank you.
Love her â€đ„°â€
Never thought I'd be making a hot rice pudding in June but that's the English summer for you đ„¶
I've bought a tin of Carnation and a small bottle of cream to make it as my mom and grandad did only using Mary's recipe. I LOVE the skin but my wife doesn't care for it, so, I get it all to myself.
Ohhhhh Marrrryyyy - you transported me back to the 1950âs in Vancouver, Canada in such a good way! My Brit mum would make this all the time, baked in our wood burning stove and we ankle-biters* would tussle over the deelish, sweet skin once the pudding could no longer burn your lips! Your classic recipe has just awakened such fond memories! Thankyou! *ankle-biter: Aussie slang for small child.
Thank you.
Thanks Mary. đđ» đ„ł
Ah, memories of my mom. There are only two desserts that I cannot turn down and they are baked rice pudding and bread pudding.
Bread pudding and rice pudding my 2 favourite â€â€â€
Glad I found you!
That's exactly how my granny made it. Delicious.
I'm going to make this during December, it looks great! I'm tempted to add something extra though, maybe cardomom or cinnamon to jazz it up a bit
I love this woman she's so nice
Thank you Mary for showing how to make a proper English rice pud! Delish, and your right, you can't beat it! Xxx
Hello Dawn bustersmummyđ
Your comment are wonderful â€ïž
Love marry berry đ
Oh yum! My brother and l used to try to grab the brown edge first.
Well done Mary đđđ
Love you Mary!!!!!
Hello friend đ
How are you doing today?
Jolly Good â€
My mom made rice pudding with raisins and a beaten egg. Sheâs nearing 90, so i have to ask how she made. She would have used regular rice.
This is the best đ
Ohh I would want to try making this Rice pudding for my kids surely... đđ.
This is something very near to Rice Kheer.. Only that we make it on stove top.
Rice slow cooked in milk and sugar to taste.. With saffron strands and freshly ground cardamom boiled till soft and creamy.
Ohh the aroma and taste is irresistibly so good served chilled and topped with slivered or flaked almonds fried in Ghee... And top it up with Raspberries and Blueberries.. ahhh so richly Royal and Divineđđđ.
Delicious
My favorite comfort food! Especially in colder days đ
A wonderful Rice Pudding Recipe from the wonderful Mary Berry. I have to make this. Thanks you, Mary.
Lovely, I've just made mine but, I add some home made vanilla essence and 2 egg yolks (my nan's old recipe)...yummy....
Would someone please tell me what specific rice is used because I have yet to figure it out and living here in the states we donât have anything labeled pudding rice like Iâve seen on some videos.
Thank you! That's the rice pudding of my childhood. My mum baked her's in a glass loaf pan. My M-I-L made her's with eggs, but IMO that's a rice custard, not a rice pudding and I don't like it as much. I loathe the skin, Mum always had mine :)
Simple recipe to follow, few ingredients, just like mother used to make. Now itâs my turn.
I add 1 lemon zest, it makes it super delicious!
I love you mary berryđđđ
My brother and I used to squabble over who had the 'brown paper!'
I bet she makes it for her great grand kinds by now! Wish I still had grandparents. đą
Gramma, shut the door and push some of that pudding my way!!!
I canât wait to try it, but what is oven temp in Fahrenheit?
60 degrees Celsius :)
Or 140f
320 degrees Fahrenheit. Everyone seems to think she said 140 Fahrenheit but she actually said 140 fan, a fan oven is a type of oven in the UK, or 160 degrees Celsius, which is equal to 320 Fahrenheit on a non-fan oven.
I have a large family, If I double up the ingredients do I nead to cook it for double the time and can I add a touch of vanilla essence ???
Awesome you
đđđđ
Y'all need to try Arroz con leche.
My mam used to make it for us â€
Hmmm... I normally use both a tin of evaporated milk and the same amount of whole milk, but I might try this recipe and see how it compares - looks delicious!
casgiatina 2 years late, so howâd it go?
HOW DID IT GO
What temperature do you eat it at?
My mom always made rice pudding this way and my brother used to eat it all I couldn't get a lookin đ
My mum made it with sterilised milk..... we all used to fight over the skin.... delicious
1:00 you no that an English person comes from a 1st class family when they use the word
" Jolly " and then "scrumptious " at the end
đ€đ€Łđ€Ł
But you just have to give respect to Mary
Skins the best bit
We had every Sunday. Baked in oven
Soya milk also works really well for dairy-free rice pudding fans, with a splash of oatly cream if you like it extra creamy. Soy milk is one of the creamy plant milks.
â€ïž
Ok. Heres here after friday night dinner?
I've never seen that kind of rice pudding before. It looks like British rice pudding is baked (Gordon Ramsay also has one), while American rice pudding is prepared on the stovetop. Baked may take longer, but at least you don't risk having a scorched saucepan.
Hi from the U.S., where 140°C = 284°F. What if you don't have a convection (fan assisted) oven? Do you bake it at a higher temp or for more time?
Bake it at 160 C / 320 F.
Loved skin on top with nutmeg đ€Ș

Does anyone no how to make the Belfast haystack itâs square cupcake only a little more heavy with cream round the outside jam in the middle an coconut round the outside just wondering is there a recipe out there for it best bun ever.
does anyone know what kind of pan she uses, please?
I would add a teaspoon of vanilla flavoring and toasted pecans
I'd hit it đ
Can you sprinkle mixed spice instead of nutmeg.
Now that's the one just how my mum made it with the deeeeelish skin
What is "140 fan" ?
Such a cute old lady đ
She's so cuteđđđ
Its absolutely beautiful and so are you young Lady â€
