  • During this central AC service call we used the Coolpressor tool to cool off the compressor out in thermal lockout, replaced a questionable dual capacitor and also replaced a seized condenser fan motor. All on a Trane Central AC system that isn’t cooling.

    On four wire condensor motor the brown wire with white stripe is only used when using a seperate cap for fan. In your situation just wire nut it and leave in cabinet. If you ohm out the two brown wires they are connected internally in motor

    I can't believe that I finally see a service tech using a non contact electrical tester,only makes sense. I still use muti meter when necessary. Also please mark which floors these units service

    • @throttlebottle5906
      @throttlebottle5906 Před 2 lety +1

      you should always back up the non-contact tester with actual meter measurements, before going hands on the wiring. been there done that, got shocked before trusting them alone, plus you can get false positives, they don't work for DC and most won't detect low voltage below 50 to 60vac(unless made for low voltage, but then they scream at everything).
      but yes they're great for preliminary troubleshooting. I've had and used many of them over the years, right back to about the first one marketed.

    You don’t have to use that brown and white wire you can just cut that and cap it. That wire is the same as the white wire if you did an olm check they are connected in the motor

    ahh, typical trane wreck, failed fan motor and cooking compressor. 825 rpm(or zero when failed), go figure!
    **they typically die of bearing failure/motor tight to turn. it usually happens over winter/long off period and turning them by hand may get them working again for short term. you can guesstimate if they're going to fail soon by the power off spin down time, as the blade slows before stopping you'll see the last few rotations look like someone applied the brakes.
    or at least I can usually tell and suggest to replace them, funny when I do that and they deny replacement, only to say you were right it's broken after winter.
    I just have a good ear and sense for most all mechanical things.🤓

    Mike !!!!!! THANK YOU so much !!! I am a mechanic and I'm great with electronics. I rent my house 🏘️ and the ac took a dump . I came home and the outdoor unit was screaming 😱 and making crazy noises. The landlord sent someone out and they said to replace it .she wanted to call someone else. 🤔 It was hot as 🔥🥵 I need my ac .so I been watching for a long time and said I'm going to check it myself. I noticed the outdoor fan motor did not come on all the time . I took the cover off and noticed the contactor was burnt . I tested the cap and it was out of range 😃. I want on Amazon $45 and a day later I installed the parts and 💥 💥 boom !!!!!!!! This whole week was hot 🔥🥵 heatwave. Today was almost 100 and I had ac . Thank you so much Mike . I fixed it 😁!

    youre gonna be badk to replace that cap in a month. unplug the brown and white. you cant wire the brown and white to your common. those wires need to be alone. unless you jump to add UFs to that cap.

    • @officerkrupke4966
      @officerkrupke4966 Před 2 lety +1

      At 15:38 mark you can see that L2 on the contactor and C terminal of capacitor is jumpered together with the red wire which makes them electrically the same point. So if the brown/white and the white wire are also electrically the same point, than no harm no foul. And if one of those Long Island rats chews thru the white wire, system would still work.🐭
