Let Peter run the service call from start to finish. Stop him if he is about to hurt himself or do damage but it's time for him to be in the hot seat.
You should do this to peter more often. The more he does it he will learn.

First service call is always the most anxiety inducing. After you do a few they become as easy as changing a radio station. Just takes time.
It brings a lot of us back to the first time we did our first install-troubleshoot. If Peter wants raises and promotions. This is the only way ! Way to go Peter !

Mikey you brought up a great point in this video. You told peter that you walked up to the unit and could hear the contactor pulled in. You should show him that the next time you can. Because that tells you alot right there about whats going on. Its one of those FEEL things that you learn over time.
Time to jump in with both feet, Peter………approach every call systematically and with patience and you will do fine. We’ve all been there before…………👍

American standard and trane peter, high pressure and low pressure switches are overlooked if the capacitor and contactor are good i always check pressures i had technicians i went behind that changed parts and never paid attention to the pressure switches. Keep learning from mike and mike keep teaching the young man the right way.

I personally like to verify the capacitor rating on the compressor label and the outdoor fan motor…it’s only a 3 ton unit and rarely is the capacitor rated at 55 mfd for a trane compressor…. I do believe based on the model number of the condenser it is the wrong size capacitor… hacks before you got there ….
Nothing like trial under fire I've been there done that and it has at least not got fired and one time actually got hired

I am your online Peter and have two questions for you.
1. Got brand new capacitor out of the box (55/5 mfd) C to H reads 53.5 mfd and C to Fan is 7.3 mfd is within =/- 6% but is low. Do I install or does it need to be exact 55/7.5 new?
2. Do I need to do the voltage test at Pullout disconnect or is it easier to do voltage test at contactor?

This wasn't really Peter running his first call. This was you still teaching him. Let him run the call and watch. That's how you know.

1:52 You said set the fan on and cool to off on the thermostat. Wouldn’t that stop the the call for cooling and Stop the 24 volts? General question because I’m trying learn.
That's the triage (for iced up coils) that customer can do for the system before the tech comes to pinpoint the problem. Setting cooling off would stop the ~24V control voltage on the contactor, so they turned cooling on once they were on site
Indeed fan on/cool off stops the 24 volts going to the Contactor
we use nothing but amrad turbo 200 i buy mine all the time on supply house

That’s what I was thinking…his mechanical skills are improving, and general knowledge is good about what materials are and what tools to use with them….but he’s maybe at a second year skill set for an apprenticeship….. schooling is a must….. needs to do it while he’s still in is early twenties…work all stay and school at night….
Best is doing installs in a team for a few years until he can put up a ladder safe on hes own.
